I'm a Burg fan but I have to tell you C G is a big strong fb team. They block well and run hard. I don't think the Burg can win a few of there games this year. Not nearly strong enough on defence and while the line does ok for the pass, the run game is far below par. Like I said early, a good team and a rainey night Pirates can be had.

Very proud of my Hornets tonight. They fought hard and will continue to get better. That final score is far from indicative of what transpired out there tonight.

On to the next one! GO HORNETS!

Incidentally, do the pirates happen to work on the victory formation on offense much? Seemed pretty low-class to pound it in there at the end with 1st down 50 ticks left and CG out of time outs.

As a parent, you just hate to see additional absolutely useless plays like that and open up the chance for injuries to players on both squads.

Rationalize it for me, I beg of you.

A pee-wee formation, off tackle run. Not a play I would call to run up a score. Coal Grove had three guys on him, the runner just kept his balance and score.

Good game by the Pirates. The Hornets will win some games this year. Prob sweep the OVC if they can hang with Fairland. Rushing attack isn't complex for Coal Grove, just with those biggens up front, very hard to see the ball fakes and LBs for Burg were no where to be found. If the runners for CG got thru the line, they could go the distance because our LBs were ? I did see a glimmer of reason in the 4th Qtr concerning our Dline. We put some meat up front and CG didn't have the push they had all night. They did make it close when Claxton tripped and CG hit a big pass down the CG sideline but Burg held on 4th at the 7(?) to end the drive. 32-20 at that point with over 230 left I believe. As Callie said, CG had some good runners. QB, #24, and #8 were very good. #40 was a hoss also. Im excited that CG will give us plenty of computer points this yr! As for Burg, Offense had 200 yds rushing and passing. They did what they came to do. Some execution probs there but we will get better. As will the defense. Always do.

Only week 2!

As expected, no rationalizing possible. Hey maybe they give BCS points for margin of victory these days at the HS level. Or perhaps they just don't practice the victory formation up that way. I think you'd be singing a different tune had an injury occurred though on such an absolutely frivolous, poor sportsmanship play.

I left when Burg got to the 50 and a 1st down after a Burg TO. When did Lucas call his final TO? Sorry, there was 2 min left approx.

You sure they didn't have a timeout left.

Burg called time out near the fifty, hard for me to see exactly where they were at and they hit Miller with a quick bubble screen looked like to me for a first down. I continued to walk. By the time I got to my car and rode away, Snuffy said Burg had scored. I thought CG had a time out when I left

If we want to bring up poor sportsmanship lets talk about the Coal Grove boy that was on top of the Burg boy at midfield and was throwing punches into his facemask. That boy should have been benched the rest of the game. Hope his hand feels good in the morning.

I can understand where Pocket Aces is coming from but I really don't have a problem with Wheelersburg scoring the last touchdown. It is a coaching philosophy. Some coaches believe in beating a team as bad as they can and others believe in keeping the score down. There are coaches that believe in both philosophies. Probably the only issue was the last score I believe was scored by a starter. (Am I right? Miller?) I believe Valley took a knee at the 1 yd line last week against Portsmouth and this week Wheelersburg scored a TD last. It is just two different philosophies. The real question is "Which coach do you think showed more class?"

i went to ironton game so i do not know how this 1 ended but if the burg coach stuck a late score in the endzone just so the scoreboard looked better SHAME ON HIM!!

the valley coach must be 1st class if he took a knee!!

My point if CG had a time out and used it in the last minutes of the game, then they meant to want to try and get Burg to punt and score quickly. Then an onside kick etc. Burg was up 32-20 at that point. IF u had no chance to win, why call the time out?
