Something in the water up there. Still waiting to hear what is going on at Waterford but this makes two schools in the county, three if you include Belpre's situation, that have major problems. Similar situations from what i can see. Someone running off a good, well like coaches mixed with dysfunctional administration. smh

Maybe these coaches arent as well liked as you might think. For me coaches are like my employees. Do what I say or get the axe

But why? Was he asked to resign? Why have others resigned? Did the Board member tell them to resign or the board?
Maybe he was asked to aspire to being greater than 6-4? Some people struggle with that. Not saying I have inside intel but I just know that in the business world its dog eat dog. Didnt get where I am being just a little better than average.
And high school football isn't a "Business" like yours! High school football shouldn't be based solely on wins and losses. True educators/teachers don't go into coaching to just win, They building character and teach life lessons through the sport. The greatest lessons I learned as a teenager was on the field and court, and not once did my coaches focus on just wins (and trust me we did). The coaches focused on the more important life skills and mastering the fundamentals.

And that's the mentality of a "Boss" and not a leader! Guarantee the kids that played for Coach Schob respect him unlike your employees.

Spoken like someone who’s very comfortable with mediocrity (ie: 6-4). I like the shake up that’s going on. BTW was Snob fired? Or did he just jump ship?

What does a school board do?
The broadest definition of a school board’s role is that it acts as the governance team for the school district. It is important that the board is a positive and responsible liaison between the school district and community. School boards adopt policy and oversee the district’s policy manual. The board’s most important role is to employ the superintendent and treasurer and work closely with them to establish and set policy, vision and long-range goals and be accountable for the fiscal health and opportunities provided to the district’s students and families. School board members need to be strong district ambassadors to the community and work to build public support and understanding of public education. Remember, individual board members do not hold authority unless it has been delegated to them. The board’s legal authority is held by the governing body as a whole and is exercised through voting in public meetings.

Board member responsibilities
The role and function of board members often are misinterpreted by the public. The board is a policymaking body and members are the chief advisors to the superintendent on community attitudes. Board members do not manage the day-to-day operations of a school district; they see to it that the system is managed well by professional administrators.

“…managed well by professional administrators…” is far from what has been happening at Marietta since forever. It’s high time someone takes the reins and rights the ship. If it’s a BOE member who has the balls to do it then so be it.

First of all, those policies are meaningless and impossible to enforce. Also, it’s rare to find a BOE that lives by them. Most BOE’s either stay hands off and don’t “govern” at all or they do the opposite and take over leadership of the district. Secondly and to answer your question, yes I would rather a board member step up and take charge rather than just letting the school continue to run headlong into the ground.

He chose to resign and had nothing to do with players. He loves those kids.

I think the word you’re looking for is “mediocrity.” Not familiar with the governance style of “mediocracy.” Who’s your pick for the coaching position then? All these ideas, there has to be someone you have in mind.

Jason Gandee from Warren would be a perfect option. He has paid his dues as a coordinator. Time to step up to be the main guy. Time to get out of the shadows.
