And yet 2017 vs 1989 will stand true. And that’s what people remember.TigerBlood00 wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 3:01 pmAfter week 1 this season it could increase to 0 and 11 over 4 seasons for burg.RBH23 wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 2:49 pmHere are a few numbers/stats for you: 2017 vs 1989TigerBlood00 wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 1:53 pm
Here is a burg stat. Burg is like 0 and 10 vs Ironton, Jackson, and Harvest Prep combined over the last 3 seasons.
Example: without looking it up, I have no idea who won between Burg and Ironton in 2011, but I know the years Ironton and Burg won state titles. Ten years from now, no one, except maybe you, will be talking about 2021, 2022, or 2023 Ironton/Burg games, but all of us will know each team’s last state title.

Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Looking at the current Pirate roster, I count 67 players with 14 seniors. I see good size on the line with several that started at different times during last season. Tomorrow’s first scrimmage is with Portsmouth .
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Any details on scrimmage with P-town? How did Rucker look? Skill positions? Defense?

Went as well as you think a 10 play scrimmage would look.RBH23 wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 11:54 am Any details on scrimmage with P-town? How did Rucker look? Skill positions? Defense?
Nothing fancy just getting the work in.
As expected burg up front is big and looks good early
Defense is figuring it out. New players in new positions.
Burg had a sophomore running back start due to injury. He looked pretty good. They also have a junior wideout that came from soccer that scored on a quick pass from about 70 yards out. Super fast.
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Pretty much sums it up. Offense looked pretty good considering only a scrimmage. Defense has some work to do. I thought Portsmouth looked pretty good not to have their starting RB. They should have a good season.wobycat wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 12:26 pmWent as well as you think a 10 play scrimmage would look.RBH23 wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 11:54 am Any details on scrimmage with P-town? It was a good scrimmage with both teams getting some good work in. Great energy, good hard hitting by both teams and no drama. Good luck to both teams this year

Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Can’t remember a Burg offseason this quiet. Seems like they either going to surprise everyone, or just go 6-4 like most people predicting.*
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
I think it’s going to be an exciting season with a lot of ups and downs given the youth of this team.art_vandelay wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 1:21 am Can’t remember a Burg offseason this quiet. Seems like they either going to surprise everyone, or just go 6-4 like most people predicting.*
Is 6-4 possible? Yes, given that all four out of conference games will be tough. I expect 7-3 with a SOC title.
As for surprising people, will take this team some time to grow so not expecting too much early on. Come playoffs, assuming the team is relatively healthy, they could surprise some teams.
So probably a year out before a serious run at the regional title, but again, will be fun watching this team grow.
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Does anyone have an idea of the running back pecking order now that Creed Warren has graduated and Riley Cunningham has transferred?

Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
No reason for them to get quiet now. The burg fans on this site banged their chest alllll summer about their "superior coaching and culture." Week 1 is coming in hot and fast. Time to stand on it. Don't get quiet now.art_vandelay wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 1:21 am Can’t remember a Burg offseason this quiet. Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Sounds like it’s TBD at this point. 3-4 good options in the Junior and sophomore class.val13 wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 1:01 pm Does anyone have an idea of the running back pecking order now that Creed Warren has graduated and Riley Cunningham has transferred?
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Watching burg for many years now, and it seems the last 20 years theres been a pattern.
You get about 20 to 25 freshmen. They will lose a few kids in their sophomore season. Maybe lose a couple more for junior and senior year to other activities or they transfer.
So my guess this year is they probably have 40 freshman and sophomores and about 30 jrs and seniors. I think they were tracking close to 70 this year
Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
I’d say the brown kid will be the most used back. He was held out last scrimmage.

Re: 2024 Wheelersburg Pirates
Burg has a pretty big offensive line. They need to utilize it. Line it up and run between the tackles. I don't see them throwing downfield deep much but I did like the screens they threw in the scrimmage and let the receivers get the YAC. They have three nice WR's in Evans, McGraw and Whitt. All have good speed.
Burg got a helmet to the ball pretty quick on defense and made some good hits.

Everyone seems to be overlooking #12. Every time QB throws deep to him deep, he has to slow down to let the ball get to him. Kid is fast. QB needs to throw earlier or get a stronger arm. Definitely a deep threat.
