Logan Football 2013
Re: Logan Football 2013
moonshine I wouldn't worry about this scrimmage that much,if they still play this way come the Jamboree game we might have trouble like in years past, but they still got a little time to get things ironed out.For what its worth the defense was giving up big plays running and passing.Mostly the QB running after giving up on a pass play or option run . A couple big passes were given up, one the DB was running with decent coverage but wasn't looking at the ball and the receiver stopped and come back to make a big catch then a DB just flat out got burned on another one for a td,Logan didn't really try to throw that much, the one long pass they did try was intercepted in the endzone, the QB seemed better when out of the pocket and he got sacked a lot.The Logan running backs had a few good runs but got stuffed a lot

Not to worried! I think we will be fine in time just like good wine it gets better the older it gets! LOGAN FOOTBALL 2013 FORWARD
Re: Logan Football 2013
Lets face it,with a inexperienced sophomore QB unless we have a killer running game and rock solid defense we are probably building for the future anyway.

Let's call this the start of a building Remember Rome was not built in a year! Like I said b-4 we must show improvement and it will be a good year! Getting ready to milk the cows and make some bacon!C-Bolt wrote:Lets face it,with a inexperienced sophomore QB unless we have a killer running game and rock solid defense we are probably building for the future anyway.

Both teams seemed pretty evenly matched, but I'd have to give the edge to Logan Elm.Logan's offense struggled to get much of anything going with no line push and too many mistakes in the backfield, but offenses are usually behind this time of year. The defense is still giving up too many big plays and the secondary needs to tighten up and do a better job locating the ball in the air.Elm did have a tall athletic QB with a strong arm that gave the Logan defense some trouble throwing and running.Logan did have a few bright spots, but a lot of work needs done to get where they want to be
I agree 100% with this.........Noticed the Maniskas boy wasn't playing so this hurt a little in the D. backfield plus some on offense. I also noticed that the coach may have had the O & D split up a little with two scrimmage going on at the same time.
I counted 29 players on the sideline and two teams of 11 during the 1st and 2nd team scrimmaging at the same time.

Any idea why Maniskas wasn't playing? Hope no injury already.noreply66 wrote:C-Bolt wrote:Just got back from the scrimmage! Re: Logan Football 2013
While the Sheridan scrimmage usually is used to evaluate Logan's team prep for the season, this year could be different. Sheridan has for years been the odds on favorite to win the MVL. Not this year. Most are giving lots of love to Tri-Valley and Philo as the top two teams. Sheridan is a 4th place team pick. but ranges into 6th place consideration. They are off talent -wise this year. Logan Elm is expected to be very good this year. That's a good sign. Lets hope the coach has the program headed in the right direction. Elm may be the better gauge this year.

From what I have been told and understand, For a new coach and new program I have to agree with my cuze It was a typical 1st scrimmage against a fairly good team!LHS 72 wrote:This scrimmage showed that we have a long way to go,That being said they are more disciplined As a trained observer I notice that a lot to teaching and changes are taking place. I thought it was a typical 1st scrimmage!

Re: Logan Football 2013
Circelville made the playoffs last year as well (at 6-4) so all the scrimmages should give an insight.
I don't think I'll be at any of the scrimmages, but what I would like to see if I want was a better fundamental football team and a team that fights for each other. I think Logan has lacked that the last two seasons. More important than wins and losses in 2013 are getting back to basics, improving fundamentals, and improved effort and work ethic.
Mike Eddy was 2-8 in his first year in Gallipolis, but the team finished strong and built on it moving forward. By 2012 his team was the class of the league and won a playoff game. That's the model for Coach Burke IMO.

Depth chart is out. Not 100% on who's where, but it is out. Last I heard Maniskas may be getting an MRI done on his back.

Re: Logan Football 2013
I've purposely stayed off this topic. I just want to see what develops and hope the team progresses. As such, I have no expectations of won-lost records. I agree with Locos that what I want to see are signs that the coaches are in firmer control of the team. Less penalties, including personal fouls would be a definite sign of progress. Will the plays get in on time? Do the players perform as a team or as a group of individuals? Do they keep playing hard even if the game is getting out-of-hand? These do not require high talent levels but are a measure of discpline. That is what I'll be watching for.

has a back sprain ...I think from getting hit in the back jumping for a pass.bart45 wrote:Depth chart is out. Not 100% on who's where, but it is out. Last I heard Maniskas may be getting an MRI done on his back.
Re: Logan Football 2013
Doing the best I can from memory,Logan's first 10 play resulted in 1TD, but couldn't get anything else going,C-ville also had 1 td and nearly another but the ref ruled a receiver OB,Logan's second 10 play resulted in 2 tds as the passing game was clicking,C-ville had one on their second series,
Logan stuffed C-ville on their first down and distance, then Logan was rushing the ball effectively on their first D+D and then a costly fumble ended that drive, C-ville then capitalized on a long pass and scored shortly there after,Logan's next possession ended when a C-ville DB stepped in front of a pass and took it to the house to make it 2-0 C-ville.Logan couldn't get anything going on the next possession and when C-ville took over they completed another long pass down around Logan's goal line, but the turnover bug bit the Tigers and Logan dodged a bullet,Logan finally punched one in on their final possession(at least I think it was the varsity) and that was the end of the varsity portion and I left.Basically in a nutshell Logan gave up too many passing yards, too many rushing yards up the middle, too many turnovers, costly penalties including one on a fourth and short.Other than that they showed good enthusiasm and spirit and didn't seem to give up,keep working hard boys!
