No doubt. There will be an air raid followed by a gashing run game that will have Ironton chasing their tails.

What time does Burg’s third scrimmage start this Friday? Probably usual format, Varsity plays 2 quarters and JV/Freshmen play the 2nd half.

Unsure how the sour grapes reference applies as I am not a fan of either program and instead am providing an objective opinion.osu 77 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 7:07 amSounds like last year or is this just sour grapes.ITSYABOY72 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 18, 2018 4:00 pm This game is going to be bad. Very bad.
Full Stop
Irontons offensive line is undersized and slow - STILL
Irontons depth is non existent - STILL
Ironton has no real playmaker speed at ANY position - STILL
Ironton will still miss tackles and commit turnovers at a pretty steady clip.
The only so called bright spot ,( @ QB) is nuetralized by both poor offensive line execution and depth which will provide mediocre protection at best - and average decision making at the position.
Note that almost all decisions made by this QB will be under constant pressure this season due to offensive line.
The defense will still struggle to defend against teams that spred them out.
Final prediction consistent with years past.
Wheelersburg 45
Ironton 7
Listen Im glad Ironton fans will be satisfied with discipline and unity this season because thats all they are gonna get ( potentially).
The truth is this. If ya don't have talent, ya just don't, and Ironton through no fault of their own, has a very limited talent pool. That's just the facts.
1. The offensive line is not good.
2. The quarterback can throw it a mile but he makes bad decisions under pressure. That ofcourse always has a potential for improvement IF you have exceptional offensive line play. The Tigers do not.
3. Ironton has well below average team speed. They are not gonna need it per se in the OVC because with the exception of the Parker kid @ Portsmouth, the OVC has hardly any real big play speed at all. However when Wheelersburg and Ashland come calling this lack of speed on either side of the ball will be much more visible.
4. Depth. Ironton has none. The end. This will, as in years past, and in the future as Irontons program steadily shrinks in size, be an achillees heel against the more stout programs like the Burgs and Ashland as well as in any post season action. That I am afraid is just the lay of the land as the town and school size continue to decrease. The one positive of course being most OVC teams will have these exact same challenges.
Friday night will be a tough way to start for the Tigers.
Burg handily and by a bunch.

Good luck to the first game for both teams, especially coming out healthy. This seems to be the most trash talking game for the year between fans, but fans don’t play the game. Burg looks really good from what I this past Friday. Ironton will have to be on point in all phases to have a chance.
Re: WK1 2018 Ironton @ Wheelersburg
Ironton will need to find a way to run the ball and use the clock against burg and make it look respectable. If they're able to eat a few minutes up here and there and pop 1-2 scores maybe they stay within 3-4 tds, if not this game will get ugly fast. Not sure where they stand in scheduling but it's honestly gotten to a point where this game is of no benefit to Ironton. Burg sure they get to beat Ironton who plays in the OVC and will go .500 or better each year so it's a nice easy way to build points. From recent years however it's proven that Ironton isn't benefiting anything from this game, need to take on a team where you have a shot at winning and start the season off on the right foot and actually gain some points.

100% agree! I would honestly like to see Chillicothe replace Ironton in week one.greygoose wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 4:58 pm Ironton will need to find a way to run the ball and use the clock against burg and make it look respectable. I think it's a hoot you all are referring to this as a scrimmage. ironton may have less talent and depth. but we don't play the games here. they are played on the field. coach pendleton is a fiery individual and you burg posters have certainly laid out the material for a blackboard er 3. so if you should fall, you'll go down hard for a long time. I hope this is a slobber knocker, and a safe game for both teams. good luck Friday to the fighting tigers.

Cockiest fans ever you would think Burg lead the series 17-12. I cant wait until Hartley knocks your grins off your faces. A team established not rebuilding. When Ironton was going to the playoffs a billion times in a row they were playing schools bigger and better than them. Burg beats up the OVC and SOC and thinks that's a dynasty.
