It was July 19, 2006 when the Athens School Board voted.....

http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:gS_ ... ent=safari

Regular Meeting
July 19, 2006

2007-012 ACCEPT MEMBERSHIP IN THE TRI-VALLEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Motion by: Scott Nisley
Second by: Roger Brown

Scott Nisley Yes
Bruce Nottke Yes
Jeff Dill Yes
Cathy Cordingley Yes
Roger Brown Yes

Discussion: Superintendent Carl Martin told the Board that the TVC voted last night to accept Athens application for membership. Jeff Dill asked how soon the change would be completed. Carl said it would take about 2 years to become fully effective due to scheduling. Cathy Cordingley asked why we would want to change leagues. Carl said there were several reasons including travel time to the new SEOAL schools such as Zanesville, Chillicothe, Ironton and Portsmouth, lower gate attendance at home and of our fans going to these locations, stability of the league with other schools looking at their options. Jeff Dill asked if all the coaches were on board with this move. Carl said yes they were. High School Principal Mike Meek had discussed this with them and that boys soccer would be the most effected since few TVC school currently have soccer. However, they were in the process of forming an independent league and several TVC schools have said they were starting or contemplating starting soccer programs.

So GAHS or NY buckeye, If Ironton voted to leave then they have to play the 2008 season and they will be out in 2009 right? Thats fair then cause it doesnt leave teams scrambling to find games for next season.

Nominee for best post of the year. You get my vote!

If Ironton really did leave, I think they are required to give a two-year notice to the SEOAL. So you would have to play at least two more years in the SEOAL. Of course, you could withdraw right away, but I think you might possibly be penalized financially if that were to happen. I'm not sure of the exact rule that exists for the SEOAL other than the two year notice rule.

Do you folks realize that you're doing NOTHING but embarrassing the league as a whole with your petulant crap? It's disgusting. Get over yourselves, and stop perpetuating the stereotype the rest of the state puts on our corner of the universe. They sit back and laugh like they're watching the Hatfields and the McCoys.

GROW UP!

Now ...

2old -- Yes, I'm sure the fuel costs the same in Logan (oddly, the price of a gallon of regular in Zanesville can vary by 15 cents sometimes). But do the Chieftains have to make any 3-hour trips? We do, when it's time to go to Ironton and Portsmouth, and it's almost that long for us to get to Gallipolis. The shortest trips we have right now are to Logan and Athens (certainly not "direct"). It's a "short trip" timewise to Marietta only because we can use two interstates and be there in a jiffy. I would GUARANTEE YOU that the fuel cost for Zanesville and Ironton, to name just two schools, outstrips the fuel costs at Logan. Your logic is skewed.

Army -- The Buckeye Central Conference was Zanesville, Nerk, Lancaster, Finday and Fremont Ross (yes, we've actually had a WORSE travel setup than the SEOAL!). The latter left first, leaving four schools that final year, as I recall.

GAHS4EVER -- Did Athens really vote to leave BEFORE last school year started? I certainly didn't make a mental note of it, but it seemed like it happened after we all were playing games. Not challenging you on that, just trying to clarify.

I still like Ironton and hope they stay in the SEOAL. I can't see why they want to leave. I think there teams will be very strong in several sports within the next few years.

I also like the idea of a SE-Ohio league being formed out of the SEOAL South and SOC II top three teams. I know Logan, Zanesville, Warren, Marietta would be on there own, but if we are really looking at the future and gas prices, that dream league could be an option?

Who knows what will become of the SEOAL.

army, we are friends, but i think you've been rather rough on the tigers inthis thread. so far , this is nothing more than a thought provoking vote, that will not even include the same members , for the next vote. give them a chance to splain themselves first. i like the seoal. and i see ironton becoming state contenders again, as early as next year. and for many years to come. things are just now getting back to some sence of normalcy. i like the new rivalries.

but i also see the points about tuesday night games in logan, in basketball, and getting home at 1:30 am also. i think it's perfect for football. maybe it can be fine tuned some, i don't know, but before you execute us, stay tuned. your buddy ytb. 2old, and paladin, go play in the traffic, somewhere busy. :-D :-D :-D

i also read that people think that portsmouth would leave too, if ironton left. i happen to know they love the seoal. and have no plans of leaving this nice league. and by the way, with the new steel mill coming to franklin furnace. i look for portsmouth to possibly expand up 2 divisions to d2, with the new schools, the new facilities. the new stadium. they are about to excperience super growth, in my opinion.

Tiger, I like you to my friend as well as Tigercannon71 and Sportsjunkie, Ghostwriter, etc. I have stood up for Ironton several times against the you know who's from Logan. I am sorry if I was brash today to all Ironton Posters. I just think we need to hang in there.

I would like to offer my apology to any and all Ironton Posters. I think this was thrown out there before there AD even knew about it? WOW?

I would like to offer another way for our SEOAL to grow and survive.

Keep the split divisions and play like they are seperate for a Championship.

SEOAL South
Chillicothe D3
Jackson D2
Portsmouth D4
Ironton D4
Gallipolis D4

Try to add one more Team and play like that. Likewise,

SEOAL North
Logan D2
Zanesville D2
Warren D3
Marietta D2

Try to add two more Teams and play like that.

play each other in non-league competition but doesn't count as a League game?

What say you all?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS, AND MANLY APOLOGY. I DON'T LIKE WHAT I'M HEARING EITHER. BUT A LOT OF FACTS SHOULD COME OUT SOON. IRONTON CAN DEFINATELY COMPETE IN THIS LEAGUE. THIS IS REALLY THE ROUGHEST COUPLE YEARS WE'VE HAD IN LIKE 35 YEARS. 2 COACHING CHANGES IN 2 YEARS. AND A DEFINATE DROP IN TALENT OF LATE.

Gee where do I start today? Let's go with a real poster.

ZV, Yes Logan has three hour road trips. Ironton and ptown are both pretty big trips for the Chiefs. As far as distance goes i maintain the "state and roads " have not changed since everyone voted to join, so i feel this is a mute point. BTW, as far as travel Logan suffers the most from Athens leaving the league. And all the roads in SEO suck. I think we can agree to disagree. I think my logic is spot on. Now ZV I have to deal with the other guys. You may want to go to another post. BT

Tobias,

Do you round first base in football??? You must have posted that late. But it makes as much sense as your other post.

YTB, HEAR me now. EVERYONE is tiored of hearing Ironton is on the cusp. They are 11-11 in their last 22 games. WIN some meaningful games(like say against Logan) and then I will believe the fight is back in the Tigers.

gotigers,

You like most of the other Ironton guys are stuck in the past. Nothing new in your post.

YTB, If it were not for me and Paladin you would find something else to whine about. That is just the way you are. But we agree on one thing. The Tigers have had a drop in talent.

Army, I see you are doing everything and anything to try to win a football championship and avoid being second or lower to Logan. It is so obvious.

2old,

The only reason that you don't like Ironton people bringing up our history is because you know that Logan has nothing to fall back on. At least it's been proven that an Ironton team can make a deep run into the playoffs. Heck it hasn't been proven that Logan can win a playoff game. Programs, whether it be high school, college, or professional are built on the foundations of the past. I realize that depresses you being a Logan fan. One again you're LOGAN, ARE YOU SERIOUS?

2old lets have a serious discussion here:

Maybe I can explain a couple things to you.

First of all, I think local people have a better knowledge of the potential of the material that will be available to coaches at their schools than someone from another area. There are times when schools go through a talent dropoff for a couple classes then the new material comes in and vastly improves the situation.
Have you ever seen that happen before anywhere?
Has Logan ever experienced a drop off for a year or so in their pround history?
Why is it you do not understand that Ironton, or Portsmouth or Chillicothe may see that similar situation?

Second, I seriously doubt that Logan's success really has that much to do with any league members decision making. Yes there may be a difference in size but that difference existed when people joined the league. I really think you are giving "yourselves" way too much credit on that issue.

Third, as far as Ironton's possible exit from the SEOAL, as I stated along with concurrence from Ironton people and posters that the BOE's vote was to investigate the possiblity of and the reqiurements to vacate their membership in the SEOAL. This was brought up due to travel and other concerns involving sports other than football. THEY HAVE NOT VOTED TO LEAVE!

ok let me start on you guys.

Tobias,

Congrats on the stories. Any fiction like ironton being a power in football again???? As far as your reference to outhouses. Are you from Lawrence County and casting stones???

FE: WRONG

You just can't take it because ironton has not performed well in their two year run in the SEOAL.

Now for Tom,

Let me explain things to you. Maybe you are new to this board. There were mountain of post two years ago from Ironton fans saying they were gonna come back into the league and take over again. obviously it did not happen.

Secondly last year they got their coach back"they warned the league" The results were dismal. Heck even in the middle of the season they were saying gthe Tigers are back. The Tigers lost their last three games by BIG scores.

Tom the point is the local people are no judge of talent. They just talk in forums but fail to produce on the field. When they produce my post will change. I think Zville is a classic example. They backed up the claim they would be good in 2007. They actually were. Ironton was not.

As for your last comment HUH?

2old, Everyone knows how great you think Ironton is, No one else I know would get on here and brag about beating a Div. 4 school when your own school is a large Div. 2 school. That shows the respect you have for the Fighting Tiger program. Thanks we appreciate it    Just think someday you may win a Div. 2 playoff game this Century, but I doubt it.

That is so funny. Logan Div. 2 wanna bees.
2old, No wonder you have Fighting Tiger ENVY, after looking at that playoff history. No wonder why Logan likes playing small schools.
