***CONGRATS TO THE CLASS OF 2009***
Bulldogs, good season. (4-6) is not the goal we wanted to reach but what a season that was played...a few breaks our way this season could have easily left this team at (7-3)...
SENIORS--I enjoyed your hard work from day one when you stepped into the ''Dawg House'' and became a Bulldog for life. Enjoy your time right now and enjoy this WIN tonight...
RETURNING DOGS--The Seniors showed you the Blueprint, now take it and build from it. You can achieve anything you set your mind to.
ATHENS BULLDOGS 2008 -- (4-6)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
redeagle - Wahama would not have wanted to play Athens from 2000-2004. Athens was a treat in those years and had some of the best athletes the area has seen...Chris Hewitt, Grant Gregory, Corey Champlin, Jeremy Sebring, Ryan Mingus & Chris Pitts were a Offensive Coordinators Dream and the Line was the Best Athens has had in over 10 years...Jared Wren, Aaron Ransom, Eliot Nicewanger, Phil Hewitt were Defensive players with a passion... So I agree with Frozenrope when he said you would not have wanted to play them...

Congrats to the Bulldogs for the win and closing out their season on a positive note.
Re: WK 10 Wahama WV @ Athens
One thing I have noticed is that Wahama's strength is its quickness, never really had big teams. A steady rain eliminates that strength, and Athens size of boys definitely thrives from it.
Great win to the Bulldogs.
Great win to the Bulldogs.

Congrats to the Bulldogs on the nice win, that many seemed to think you would not get. Good thing I didn't "take a Wahama win to the bank", as our economic problems don't need anymore help with a worthless check......

Way to go Athens. A very nice way to end your season. The TVC is such a great fit for you and I know you are going to make some noise in the conference real soon.

SG 8-2 - Made playoffs
Trimble 7-3 - Sitting at home as the 16 seed ... AT 7-3!
2005
SG 6-4 - Made playoffs
Trimble 9-1 - Sitting at home as the 9 seed. At 9-1 1 game from a perfectseason and still didnt make the playoffs.
Talk about paper champions. I think I will let the info that I provided talk. We made the playoffs at 6-4 and the same yeard you couldnt make them at 9-1.
P.S. By the way in 06, Sectional Champs. I think then we beat a TVC Champion in Trimble that was great andunstoppable and they seem to have hit a wall!
Do the math.....Trimble was d5 those years by one or two students. Had they been d6 as they expected they would have finished WAY AHEAD of your sorrys arses.
I could have swore this was an Athens/Wahama forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding Performance by the Seniors! They definitely left it on the field last night! Tope ran like a man on a mission; especially after the "fine" spot on the Wahama punt. Sweeney was a hammer. Summers made some nice catches . . . overal team performance.
Underclassmen, from this day until the first kickoff of next season is when you become a better player. Spend the off-season getting BIGGER, FASTER, and STRONGER! Ask yourself every morning; what can I do today to become a better football player?
Seniors . . . best of luck in your future endeavors! And remember, you will always be a BULLDOG!

Re: WK 10 Wahama WV @ Athens
Wahama talks all this smack about their football program. I thas a lot of tradition for West Virginia football. How many schools are in each of the three divisions in WV football. If they take the top 16 how many in each division stay home? Ohio FB (even SE Ohio FB) is stronger than WV.
One caution when you count the number of boys to compare school sizes, please take into account that ohio counts boys on grades 9-12. WV detirmines their divisions based on 10-12.
Fact Wahama has never beaten Meigs who has been a mediocre Ohio program since the seventies. I would suggest that Wahama try to enter the OVC or the TVC. The reason they don't is because they want to pick and choose who they play.

It is hard for river schools in either state to fit in. Wahama should be in the LKC but I think they are to far south for the LKC.
I don't think it would be a good fit for them to be in the TVC or any other Ohio conference. WV and Ohio have different starting dates in every sport season. Ohio just finished up it's regular season and is starting their playoffs, but WV has 2 more weeks to go until they are done and start their post season play.

Rainman, please speak with intelligence. We don't play Meigs (I wish we would though), they are twice the size of us. And if you talk as if we play them every year. I can't even remember the last time we did. The comparable schools in size in Ohio, we always play: Southern, Eastern, South Gallia, and recently: Waterford, Buckeye Trail, and Trimble. We normally do very well against them (probably about 30-6 in the last 6 years or so).
I mean, come on, we just lost to Athens who was three times the size of us. And yes, if you go with comparable school sizes, WV and SE Ohio are very close to each other.

FleaFlckr,
Give me a break. I know how Wahama has that kind of record. Look at your weak schedule. Yes Wahama did play Trimble tough at the Ohio stadium a few years ago. We play at home we win the game. We then beat you down at your place. Trimble sent a contract to renew the contract and Wahama sent it back saying no thank you we are playing South Gallia. Cmon give us break. Everyone on here knows you would never have played Athens if you were allowed to play South Gallia twice you would have Good job to Athens for a great win and good luck in continuing what could be a force in the TVC very soon.

hopefully this game will show the West Virginians the differece between 8-2 in Ohio (like meigs, who beat athens) and 7-2 in Wv (like wahama who got shutout by athens) Go TVC ohio!

Re: WK 10 Wahama WV @ Athens
i like how far this topic has degenerated from the original topic.
first of all, never count size of a school as an indicator as to how well a football team will do. division 6 schools like danville and such destroy larger schools every year. that gallia team that made the playoffs a couple years ago? fell to a division 6 school. dont claim size of a school has any bearing on football team skill.
secondly, athens has more like 30 people, not 40
congrats on the win athens good luck next year
