I understand, but honestly don't most of us have Native American in our bloodline anyways. I guess that Chieftans really isn't racial either.
This is just payback for the years of turmoil that this country put them through.

So just how does whatever tribe that wants Logan to change its moniker benefit if that happens?
And what is the benefit for the community of Logan?

Change can be a good thing too. Maybe another really good nickname would'nt be so bad.

That is such utter expletive nonsense. Indians were persecuted a hundred years ago, not today. Nobody alive today was persecuted, run off their land, etc.

This "we owe them" crap is just that, crap. I never persecuted anyone, neither did anyone else alive today. Nobody alive today was persecuted. It's over. Let the dead bury the dead.

This country is indebted to them. It's easy for you to say that it is nonsense. You don't live on a reservation in Oklahoma. Your culture hasn't virtually dissapeared.

So basically if your mother was murdered, God forbid, then the killer doesn't owe your family anything because he didn't do it to you?
Don't you think we should try to clean up the mess of the past? Do you even understand the magnitude of events that the Native Americans have went through? They still have problems to this day. It is time to own up to the mistakes of the past and try to heal these wounds. We are supposed to be the better generation.

So, BlizzardMan, are you saying that someone who lives on a reservation in Oklahoma is shackled to that place for the rest of their life? Are you saying that they have been stripped of all free will and can never leave even if they choose to do so? Are you saying that a person cannot preserve their own heritage and culture if they choose to do so?

And all the money and anger in the world won't change it. Their culture as they know has never changed. Life is just like what it was when they were born. What you are talking about is a hundred years in the past, involves nobody around today, and cannot be undone.

If you want to do this, we owe the chinese for making our railroads, the Irish for fighting the civil war, the Western Europeans for creating modern meat packing practices in America, etc.

Minorities have been abused. It's a fact. You won't find Irish people protest the Celtics and telling the world about what is owed to them. Reasonable people live in the world that exists, not in a world that existed 100 years ago. I'm tired of the crybaby thing, and I'm tired of the people that have no involvment with the situation make martyrs out of people they know nothing about.

The killers are GONE. Their kids, who weren't involved, owe me nothing. That's the point.

So, are you vacating your home today for an Indian family, or will you wait for Christmas? You DO owe them.

What a minute. My family didn't come to the U.S. until 1967. In light of that fact, what is my responsibility, according to you?
Better yet, what is your family's responsibility? What role did your family play in the persecution of American Indians?
You better be able to answer those questions for yourself before you take the next step and start calling for reparations, which is where you're headed with this line of thinking. You could be broke before you know it depending on the skeletons in the old family closet.

Minorities have been abused.

That's been the privilege of being a minority throughout human history: to be exploited!!!

You guys do not get it do you. If you have ever studied sociology, you would learn that the dominant group can never understand the psychological and long term effects that a history of persecution can have on a group. Don't try to walk in their shoes. If you look at Native Americans today, they still have their problems, and any psychologist can tell you why they commit more suicide than any other ethnic group. We can at least take a small step like changing a team name. We should try to clean up the stains of the past. God Bless America, but their are some things that our country has done in thie past that can never be excused, but we can try. I will stop with this post because I believe enough has been said, and I do not want a never-ending argument. I do value your opinions however.

Your entire theory revolves around the idea that NONE of us are minorities. That's a fatal flaw.

How about the Logan Katie Smith's? I am done WildThingRV. Native Americans aren't the only ones who we have persecuted, just the only group we felt was appropriate to name teams after.

True, wildthingRV.
Blizz, I get it and I am a minority. I just don't believe that a person has to settle for what life has thrown at them. I didn't.
You can change your stars (Karl, tell me the movie I just referenced), but it takes hard work. I don't discount the social problems that some American Indians are facing, but the opportunities for advancement are there. I think the 2008 presidential election should bear witness to that.

I still really like Purple Reign ....

I think I can agree with you there. Why do they have to be perple? What if they want to go a completely different direction, color and all? What Would Katie Smith Do?
