I have no problem with CG being the favorite to win this game... They're experienced, they're at home, they're a good football team. But if you're looking at a 14-0 against RH as a reason Valley won't be in the game, or if you think that CG is better than last season while Valley is the same or worse then you are mistaken. Valley contolled every aspect of last weeks game, as they piled up almost 500 yards of offense. A bad call and lack of execution (penalties and unforced turnovers) inside the redzone cost the Indians at least 3 TDs. IMO, if Utley is accurate and decisive on his throws then Valley will have a good chance to put up some points. I'm anxious to see how CG's secondary speed matches up with Bukie, Holcomb, and Yates on the outside. And the Dline has to play a big time game tonight.

Here's why I'm picking Coal Grove:

1) They beat pretty much this same Valley team last year on the road by 22 points. Utley was ineffective in that game as I've already mentioned.

2) Coal Grove has never lost to the Indians at the "Pat" as I've already mentioned.

3) In Valley's two victories over Coal Grove, the Hornets are averaging 3 points a game. Coal Grove is averaging 51 points per game so far. Even if we took the median score between 3 and 51, it would be 27. Valley is only averaging 24 points per game in their victories over Coal Grove.

4) Even if Valley's improvement is equal to Coal Grove's, the Hornets should still be 22 points better in theory. Valley would have to have improved just as much as Coal Grove and then improve by 22 points.

*Could Valley win? Stranger things have happened. Also, to me at least, the turnovers against Rock Hill could be an even bigger reason to pick Coal Grove. If Valley doesn't cash in on their opportunities and/or gives Coal Grove opportunities, they won't win this game.

Just an observation If fairland beat Cg really bad last year and beat Meigs worse this year than what CG did does that mean fairland will again beat CG worse this year than last yr. Compare all the old data you want to this is 2009 Maybe Valley should drop CG like everyone is because it seems there is no one out there who can beat CG.

I understand that CG is very good. I've talk to an unbiased source that has seen Valley, Fairland, and Coal Grove play. And they seem to think that, while Coal Grove is favored and probably the better team, this will be a pretty darn good ballgame. The like Valley's speed and the amount of playmakers all over the field. But IMO, past results don't really play that much into HS football and it's hard to compare across different years to predict a future event when the talent and the players change. But Valley winning tonight, would not be a "stranger things have happend" event.

Crab apple did you even play HS football? Some one said you could play some roundball but that might have been your younger brother. I do remember when he played a few years ago.

Yea, I played football (started at LB and TE) and basketball and baseball.

Little brother played too... He played all 3 also. He graduated in 2005 and I was in 2000.

I fail to believe that either of the two teams in this game are the same teams as last year. I believe that they are both better. And, when you are talking about high school athletics, games that took place 10, 20, 30, etc years ago have absolutely nothing to do with anything in the present game. I think it's great that fuzzhead apparently spent a lot of time looking up a lot of information about Coal Grove's past. I love doing that stuff myself, as I did Valley's past a couple of summers ago. I also like reading the facts from the past about other schools, so the posts with those facts in them have been very interesting to me. At the same time, I don't view Coal Grove as any more or less of a favorite to win this game based on any of the info provided. I don't even think the PPG averages for the first two games of this year are very relative. The reason I say that...there have only been two games. If you want to use that logic, Valley hasn't given up a single point yet defensively. So, wouldn't that then imply that the Indians would have the better defense? And, isn't the old addage "Defense wins championships."?

Let me be very clear here: I don't know which team has more speed. I don't know which team has the better defense. I don't know which team has the better offense. I don't know which team has improved more from last year. The reason I don't know is because I haven't seen both teams play this year in order to form an honest opinion. What I do know is that we shall all get the answers to those questions tonight and that's the best part. I'm sure both teams will go out and compete and give the crowd in attendance exactly what we pay for...a good high school football game.

My gut tells me that Coal Grove should win this game. Of course my heart tells me that I want Valley to win the game. My honesty allows me to be man enough to admit both. :)

I may not have played HS football but I consider myself a study of the game. I mean a Study of the game. ;-) And trust me, this will not be an earthshattering event if Valley wins to anyone except Fuzz. This will be close and I'm not predicting victory for the Indians, but believe me when I say this: Coal Grove will not win this game in the 1st half. And I'm glad CG has picked up and started playing like they did in the late 80's and early 90's, and I've never seen the confidence from Fuzz and some others at the Top of the Grove   that this team is back bigtime. So good luck to both teams, but GO INDIANS!!! Show up and shock the Fuzz!!! And after this game, I will be rooting for the Hornets to go on and make the playoffs as long as they don't take Valley's spot.

I like that !!! SHOCK THE FUZZ, SHOCK THE FUZZ, SHOCK THE FUZZ!!!!!
