I thought he liked the 46 defense? I dont know if VC has 6 linebacker types to play this scheme though......thoughts?

No he is a 4-3 man. Strange but the 46 Bear has nothing to do with having 6 linebackers. I think it was named for a players number for the Chicago Bears. Its an Eagle front with a noseguard and two tackles on the guards . Wide crashing defensive ends with a stand up linebacker type on the tightend , it actually looks like a moved over 6-2, lots of twists and blitz. Jackson under Andy Hall is the only team really running it as a base defense.

That defense has been great for every team Hall (Larry that is) has coached, but anyway back to Vinton County, I have heard good things out of this Burleson guy, seems to be a winner, good luck

Ok I really know nothing about this new coach so correct me if I am wrong.
He has had bad seasons with South Gallia and couldn't win in the TVC Hocking (again I do not know his record) and
he is a friend of the principal at VC (buddy system).

Looks like a great hire in VC! When will the administration get things right?

The ( Buddy System ) is part of the problem, after all he is the one that drove the two all time winnest Coaches away from VC. The System will not be fixed until there is a change made in their though process. I may be wrong but I thought they were there for the kids. I can only hope that the new Coach can have better success then the other hires Woodwell has hired.

Coach Burleson is a fine coach and a good man. He took a program at South Gallia and went to the play-offs two times. He was Southeast District Division VI Coach of the year in 2005 and 2006. His teams will be disciplined, well coached, and physical. Coach Burleson is very organized and understands what it takes to be a head football coach. He will get the young men into the weight room. If they buy into his program they will turn boys into men. We will miss him at South Gallia but we wish him the best of luck and will look forward to when he and his staff at Vinton County turn the program around.

No one has been hired yet. There was no school board meeting yesterday. So no one was hired, teacher or coach. Interviews will be conducted this week and official announcement on who was hire will be done at the February 15th School Board Meeting.

The coach from South Gallia is a good coach, he knows what he is doing. There have been years that he has done a lot with the talent he has had. He has had play off teams at South Gallia.Sometimes the guy that wins a few games is doing a better job than the guy that wins a lot with overwhelming talent. The people that get on this web site and talk about South Gallia not being able to compete in the TVC Hocking think a little too highly of themsleves and will eventually discover that playing South Gallia is not going to be the piece of cake they think it is. They can beat TVC Hocking teams and will as the league will soon discover. They are small school and have their run of athletes and then some down years just like anyone else that is that size. The South Gallia coach has won games during his down years also.

I had the opportunity to talk to Coach Wolford last night and was a bit surpised to learn that he didn't apply for the job. Said that he had asked around about it, but ultimately wanted to spend more time with his family.

That being said, I know Coach Burleson will have the Vikings in the weight room and ready to go for the start of the season. I just hope that he doesn't run into the same injury bug that took a bite out of Vinton County last year.

VC has some great young talent coming up.
Coach should have talent, and hardworking youngmen to work with.
I wish the best to Nolan.
As hard as VC people were on a home grown coach; I hope the new guy has thick skin.

I can't wait to see who is going to accept the right to be heckled and second quessed on everything he tries. Just wish the power's in charge would get someone hired so he can get his new style of program started, and get the kids in the weight room. Please hire someone to go after the kids that haven't been playing. It is a shame as we have a lot of kids that should be playing, but are too lazy and just want to mess around during their high school years, and some end up in trouble. Just check the local papers over the last several of months. All you read about there is drug busts and other illegal activities. I admire last years team. They had a larger than normal amount of injuries, but they played with a lot of heart. So come on Administrators, you wwere really quick letting Coach Yates go, now it is time to be just as quick and hire someone before too much time passes. The new coach has a lot to do. Don't set him up to fail !!!!!!

No its not the same coach that got kicked out of a jackson playoff game. Coach Burleson will have his troops ready to play. They will work in the weight room or not play, simple as that. Good Luck Coach!!!
