TFBA; I respect your opinion on a lot of your post and agree with most. I'm not blaming the coach's for everything with this team. I know the old saying coach's don't make tackles, score TD's, so on and so forth. But, over the course of this year I have seen the following from the sideline.

1. Not enough players on the field scrambling around and wasting time outs.
2. Too many players on the field on the very next play another time out several times this yr.
3. Coach's not realizing what down it is every week this has happened (yes another time out).
4. Suspect play calling in key situations I could spend a lot of time here but I won't.
5. Consistence of who and how they rip some of these kids a** for doing the same thing wrong.

Again coach's (coach) and players (play) and it's my opinion we have struggled in both areas. And you are right about certain kids go all out on every play and some not. I think we have some kids that need to look their self in the mirror over the next 2 weeks. Ask themselves are they giving everything they have to this team. The seniors have 2 weeks left of their high school career and if you can't give everything for the next 2 weeks they will never forgive or forget it. I mentioned above that I love the Trojans and the kids that wear the uniform on Friday nights. And I do have a lot of respect for the time it takes as a coach to be away from their own family's to give to these boys. But, that has nothing to do with the above issues I mentioned. Congratulations to the Blue Devils on the win.......Austin Wilson is one fine football player that the Trojans had no answer for.

I understand trojanofthepast's frustrations........last night was the poorest defensive performance of the season and it was the second time in the last 2 seasons that PHS has allowed 60+ points........in fact, in the last 18 games, the defense has allowed 27, 34, 38, 41, 44, 50, 63, and 68 points.......and the result is 0-8 in those games........that's not getting it done.......and it puts too much pressure on the offense to produce.

In all 5 losses this year, the Trojans have given up no fewer than 34 points.

Overall, in the last 4-5 years, Portsmouth's defense has struggled more often than not........and it seems that if any team has any kind of speed, we can't handle it........that is why backs like Trevon Pendleton, Brandon Shankwiler, Austin Wilson, and Clay Arthur just to name a few have run roughshod over the Trojans' D.

It's not going to change this year........but our freshmen went undefeated and our 8th grade lost only 1 game........we have some good athletes coming up.........BUT WHAT WILL OUR DEFENSE BE LIKE THEN?..........WILL WE BE ABLE TO STOP ANYBODY?

I'm not going to put the blame on anybody, because it's a team sport.......my opinions are only derived from what I see.......and I have missed only 1 game the last 5 years.

Like I told some people last night, until we get a defense back in this program, it will be very difficult to get back on the winning side of the ledger, especially with the schedule we play every year.

Being in Arizona I rely on the posts that are put out there...It appears our beloved Trojans do indeed have some issues,,losing is like a cancer,,you get to a point and you have to make a choice--fight or giveup...it appears our defense has chosen the latter...Coach has been around and knows what is up and what is down, the players have to make a choice to either play or show up for a letter ( P ), I actually have one of those bad boys....If any of our players read these posts, and I think they do, DO NOT QUIT!!! Give it your all the next two games and years down the road you will so glad you did...Coachs do not throw in the towell,,,keep after the young men! And fans do not give up on them...fill the stadium and root for the Trojans whatever the outcome....wipalawalt

True and valid points.........each one.......and in my opinion, we are not very physical.....most of the games, we have pretty much been physically manhandled.......on the defensive side of the ball, we are an undersized unit, which adds to the problem.

Ben Saunders top defensive player
In GAHS triumph over Portsmouth

Ben Saunders, 5-11, 160 pound senior linebacker, was top defensive player against Portsmouth last Friday in the Blue Devils 63-20 triumph.

Saunders was credited with five solo tackles, one assist and two sacks.

Zack Tackett had one solo tackle, three assists, one tackle for a loss and two quarterback hurry-ups.

Tyler Eastman finished with six solo tackles and one assist.

Dallas Moss was credited with two initial hits two assists and one tackle for a loss and Brandon Taylor had one initial, two assists, one pass breakup and one pass interception. Ethan Moore had one solo and four assists.

Overall, GAHS had 31 solo tackles, 26 assists, two sacks, four pass break-ups, one pass interception, three tackles for a loss, and three quarterback hurry-ups.

On the year, GAHS has 279 solo tackles, 319 assists, 21 tackles for a loss, 14 quarterback hurry-ups, five caused fumbles, 12 pass breakups, nine sacks, five recovered opponents fumbles and four pass interceptions.

After eight games, Moore leads the team in solo tackles with 48. Curry leads in assists with 43. B. Saunders has six tackles for a loss, Tackett has seven quarterback hurry-ups, five share caused fumbles, Wilson has four pass breakups, Tackett five sacks and four share pass interceptions.

GAHS will travel to Warren Local at Vincent Friday for another key SEOAL contest at 7:30 p.m.
