Logan picks up Sheridan!
What a great pickup for the Chiefs!
I know the Generals are welcoming in a new coach and it may take a season or 2 to get back to their old selves, but this game is a win win for both schools.

So I wonder what they will do about the Jamboree game now? Looks like the local rag has finally blacked out their articles.

Re: Logan picks up Sheridan!
The MVL (9 team league) drew bye dates for 2017 and 2018 in the fall of 2015. Sheridan contacted Logan soon after they drew week 4 to see if they were interested in playing. Sheridan is playing Licking Valley week 1 of those years.
Currently (2015 and 2016), Sheridan plays Granville week 1 and Zanesville week 3.
8 league games

LOGAN — A game that many Chieftain Nation football fans have wanted to see played as a regular-season contest, not just as a pre-season practice game, will indeed be played in both 2017 and 2018.teach1coach2 wrote:If you answer a couple questions, the article appears and you can read it.
The Logan Chieftains and Sheridan Generals, who have scrimmaged each other for many years — including the last eight as Ohio High School Athletic Association pre-season "Jamboree" foes — will square off in week four those two seasons.
They will meet Sept. 15, 2017 in Logan Chieftain Stadium and Sept. 14, 2018 at Sheridan's Paul Culver Stadium. Though separated by less than 30 miles, and with remarkably similar football programs, the two schools have never met in a regular-season game.
Paul Culver Jr. himself won't be on the sidelines, however. The legendary Sheridan coach retired following the 2015 season after compiling a 324-132-5 career record in a 43-year career at Sheridan, Buckeye North and Trimble high schools, vaulting him into the state's all-time top ten for football coaching victories.
Logan seldom plays teams from the Muskingum Valley League because the MVL plays eight conference games (and for many years, when membership was at 10 schools, it was nine) and there's little room to fit them on the schedule.
The Chiefs did oppose Sheridan's nearby Perry County and MVL rival, New Lexington, 36 times between 1920 and 2002, many times in the season opener before the Panthers began conference play.
Logan's 2017 schedule is still one game from being complete. With the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League just a shell of what it once was — it will only include Logan, Jackson and Warren beginning this fall — scheduling is a difficult task, to say the least.
Week eight — the slot in which Logan hosts Columbus DeSales this fall — remains open in 2017.
Logan didn't complete its 2016 schedule until late in the 2015 season, adding a week-nine home game against Hamilton Ross, a Division III school located in Butler County, to replace departing Gallia Academy.
Sheridan is a perennial Division III playoff team, though the Generals have missed the post-season each of the last four seasons despite compiling a 27-13 record.
The Generals were 7-3 in 2015 and finished 11th in DIII Region 9 and, despite an 8-2 slate, was 10th in that same region the previous season, when undefeated Athens was the No. 4 seed and reached the state DIII championship game.
The Generals have a great football history. They've made the post-season playoffs 17 times — all under Culver — finishing as state D3 runner-up in 1987 and also making a final four in 1996.
Several slots on the 2018 schedule are up in the air as Logan continues to seek membership in another athletic conference. If Logan does secure a spot in another league, 2018 is the earliest the Chieftains could begin competing in football, though LHS might be able to participate in other sports as early as the 2017-18 school year.
Logan's 2016 and 2017 schedules are as follows. Games begin at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
2016 — Aug. 26, Dublin Jerome; Sept. 2, at Teays Valley; Sept. 9, at Meigs (7:30); Sept. 16, at Cambridge; Sept. 23, Nelsonville-York; Sept. 30, Athens; Oct. 7, at Jackson*; Oct. 14, Columbus DeSales; Oct. 21, Hamilton Ross; Oct. 28, at Warren*.
2017 — Aug. 25, at Dublin Jerome; Sept. 1, Teays Valley; Sept. 8, Meigs; Sept. 15, Sheridan; Sept. 22, at Nelsonville-York (7:30); Sept. 29, at Athens (7:30); Oct. 6, Jackson*; Oct. 13, open date; Oct. 20, at Hamilton Ross; Oct. 27, Warren*.
*—Southeastern Ohio Athletic League games.

I think it would be great if the Chiefs could pick up a second MVL team to play as well.moonshine wrote:Sheridan always has a good tough football program.
