Bad Calls

Post by dilligaf »

Well it seems like everyone wants to blame bad calls for the outcome of their games. Is it just me or is anyone else getting tired of hearing it. I guess no one just gets beat by a better team anymore.

AMEN.

You never hear people thanking the refs for "bad calls" that go in their favor.

Let's face it, officiating is a LOSERS excuse. The winners never credit the officials, so the losers can't blame them.

Don't get me worng I have seen some refs make some really bone head calls. But they are only human...If you really think about it you could throw the flag on just about every play in football and I think some refs take advantage of that. BUt seriously speaking the refs can't be to blame for the outcome of a game. If they were I am sure OHSAA would not allow the to ref anymore. Every game is captured on video and if their is a dispute I am sure OHSAA would reveiw it. I think bad calls can discourage then yooung men we have playing , but that is when the oaches and fans need to step it up and get them fired up again.....

Interesting you started this thread. I just made the following post on the Meigs vs Nelsonville-York thread yesterday:

While I totally agree that the whining about officiating by the Meigs fans is getting a bit old, I have to point out that MANY of you same Buckeye faithful who are ripping the Meigs people are the same ones who were whining about the refs in your loss against Berne Union. The truth is we as fans never want our team to lose, and when they do, we always look to someone else to blame (and it's usually the officials). I can read almost any thread on this site and someone is complaining about getting ripped off. It's not just the refs at Meigs or Nelsonville. Everyone thinks they got screwed when they lost. It's time to point to where the pointing belongs when we lose. Not to the officials.
I think we can all agree that officiating as a whole seems to get worse every year. But I think we can also agree that officials (no matter how bad they are), DO NOT win or lose ballgames. There are always other circumstances that your team could have prevented, or plays that your team could have made that should have made your team win. But the fact that your team didn't make those plays means you lost. There will always be bad calls. It's part of the game. Practice harder and play harder and be able to overcome obstacles.

OHSAA will not pass judgement of a game.Even with the video wont change the out come of a game.I have went that route.

I know they won't pass judgement on a game...I said they would monitor the refs and deal with them accordingly...

They may review the game and "discipline" the officials (much like a spoiled kid gets punished) but it is merely a slap on the wrist. I remember a game that had a really bad mishap where a player was ejected and nearly cost the coach(es) and ejection but "upon further review" the player was re-instated and the school appologigized to by the OHSAA but still the official was on a field the following week. I do agree that they are human and make mistakes but some mistakes cannot be explained or overlooked and I agree that they should have to pay a penalty if found to be deliberate or intentional. The refs are not to blame when the outcome is not favorable for a team b/c the team had the entire game to prevent the official from having the opportunity to determine the outcome and one brief moment cannot be blamed for a loss. Still hard to stomach but it is kind of like getting beaten by a hail marry pass by a team that is the underdog. Let the sleeping dog lie around long enough and they will wake up but who's fault is it for being in that position, don't give em the chance to allow one moment or call in this case to determine the outcome. Sour grapes do not go away instantly but there is a big picture to look at.

I think to most people it is just easier to pass the buck to the officials as for why they lost.....I have been involved in officiating baseball and soccer when i was a youth and it always seems as it is the same people who always blame the refs instead of just admitting the fact that they lost....

Bad calls happen, but it's just something you have to deal with. JChipwood said it best...you have countless opportunities throughout a game to make plays to determine the outcome in your favor. It's your own fault if you allow one or two calls by an official to cause the game to go against you. Officials are human too. Everyone makes mistakes.

When the ref's have the opposing team's name tatooed and a football on their inner for arm it is a loooong night.

Would the people from East please SHUT UP!! You lost. Get over it. I guess you never lost a game before. It's just a game. I've seen several games in which I knew the refs were out to get a certain team but "after a further review" I can say I have seen only one game in my entire 45 years of watching any sport that I witnessed a blatant hammering of one team, and it was basketball. And you know what? It still didn't change the outcome. I'm sure, If Hall gets the chance to beat them next year by 200 points, he will not hesitate to do it. He don't forget, history has proved that.

Officials don't win or lose games. Players and coaches do and most of the time it is the players that truly make the difference.

I will agree with that but for some reason on here its never the players fault. Its always the coaches

Well, not one kid individually, but as a team, the players should. They're the ones out there doing the blocking, tackling, throwing, catching and running.
