WK 7 Logan (6-0) AT Marietta (2-4)

Post by loganlocos »

Logan visits Don Drumm Stadium this week after escaping to beat Zanesville 16-14. Marietta comes of a tough 35-28 near come from behind loss to Jackson.

Two of the top passing offenses in the league go at it in this one.

What is Marietta's record? Do they pass it?

... might be a game that lasts until midnight LOL - I see a combined 70+ passing attempts on the evening ... Turnovers WILL determine the outcome of this one LL the team that forces 2+ in takeaways will pick up the W ...

... with Logan failing to get it done in the Red Zone vs Zanesville in the neighborhood of 5 times - makes the "what if" principle a factor ...

Now that the rest of the SEOAL has a template of "how" to defend us, the question will be, "Do they have the athletes".
A 3-5 or maybe a 4-6 for some teams will cause more confusion. I hope the Logan coaches prepare our offense for the upcoming barage of it IMO.
The stats were WAY too unbalanced in the ZV game to have been so close. 25 1st dns to like 7? 400+ yds to 200? Almost 30 min. time of pos? Come on! The fumble on our own 25 to allow the TD was a killer as well as the 20 yd sacks. That happens, and thank God we got away with it.
To me, this is a rebound game with Marietta being the unfortunate victim. I hope our young men have learned something from this.
Also, our Band dominated again!
Go Chiefs!!

Can't blame all of Friday nights struggles on a "let down."

Zanesville had a great game plan and executed with solid athletes. Logan needs to take the film and get better. If receivers get open vs. man coverage and Angle makes quicker decisions, Logan runs away with the game against Zanesville.

LHS did not do those things, and they will see more of that against teams this season in the regular season and beyond.

Let's keep getting better and the rest will take care of itself.

Good luck to both teams....This will be an exciting game to watch...The 2 best QB's in the Leauge go at it...All I can say is I would love to see this one...I think Zanesville showed Marietta a few things , BUT I think Logan will adjust...It kinda makes me think that Logan will come out fired up that a game was even that close last week and will play like it never happened...Gonna be a good one...

logan has to come out fired up. they can't start out flat and let teams hang around. get them down and down early. make the easy catches and stop the miss takes in the red zone. if this don't happen it could be another ugly night.

Is Logan back to full health yet?

Marietta will now have everybody back. Hopefully we can eliminate turnovers and mistakes and compete with the best team in the league. I'm glad to be playing Logan for the last time of my career, they've been a tough group since the first time I played them in 8th grade.

One ugly game does not make me worry about the entire season. They needed a tight game to make them better and they got it. Will they be fired up for this game? Not sure if they will be firey as much as they will be out to make a statement. There were two constants that were still present for Logan Friday that gives me confidence. The defense played a great game and the offensive line was solid. That last time-consuming drive was as impressive as any Logan has mounted this season IMO. When they needed it with the wide open offense not clicking, the line pushed Z'villes' defense off the ball and Logan played good old smashmouth. Funny thing is that even though Logan played bad enough to lose and Zanesville played good enough to win, I didn't have the least doubt about the final outcome.

have to disagree d&c about oline play. angle was under pressure all night because the oline couldnt block a 3 or 4 man pass rush enabling zville to drop back 7 or 8 people.

That's fine. We can agree to disagree. Angle had 5 seconds usually to get the ball out. The problem was Zanesville went man-to-man against the receivers and covered them up really well. Most of the hurries and sacks were coverage related. One-one thousand, two-one thousand, three-one thousand, then run or throw. When the spread wasn't working, we should have adjusted; we didn't. When we needed yards the last drive, we got them by powering against their line.

I actually agree with D&C. I don't think the line was getting pushed around. Zanesville was playing our receivers man on the outside and our receivers had a hard time getting seperation.

Almost ALL the pressure Zanesville got came on blitzes, not from the 3 and 4 man fronts. They delay blitzed their linebackers and time things up pretty well in my opionion. We hadn't seen that before, now we have. The key is to get better decision making from all our players, linemen and quarterback especially, in regards to picking up those blitzes and getting rid of the football.

Most of the sacks we took on Friday night were as a result of those blitzes and not getting rid of the football. As I have said before, we hadn't seen that attack all season, now we have. The key is to GET BETTER in those situations. If teams want to blitz, let's make them pay by getting the ball off quickly. Our receivers need to get better seperation, and sometimes we need to get rid of the football to live to fight another down.

I have confidence our coaches and kids will make the right adjustments. Besides, not many other teams in this league will have the athletes to play man to man on the outside with all of our receivers.

Zanesville deserves a lot of credit for the game plan and execution.

It sucks to think that it's week 7 of my senior year. A lot of kids talk about how they want highschool to be over and how they can't wait, but if it was up to me I'd rewind a few years. It has gone by fast and football for me is almost completely over. All the kids have put in so much time to be successful at the best game there is. Of course everybody loves to win, but I'm just happy to be playing. I know Marietta hasn't been successful in the past but I believe teams go through cycles of being up and down, and right now in my opinion we are coming out of a slump. This team is much different than past years teams and I hope that we can set an example for the younger kids in Marietta so that they too will continue to build up the program. Of course most teams want what Logan has right now but the past two seasons I've been happy just to be playing football. Even for having down seasons Marietta has had their upsets and highlights that people will remember for a long time. They broke some ridiculous SEOAL win streak of Logans, upset Chillicothe my sophomore season, upset a Parkersburg South team that went on to win state before I got into highschool, also beat Jackson in a 2 or 3 overtime shootout. My freshman year we played Logan tough I believe it was 24-14 near the end of the game but they might've ended up scoring again. So yeah, it would've been nice to catch Marietta in it's up years but I really hope this season is changing things. Coach Schob and his staff are doing a good job in changing the attitudes of players, teaching to play hard until the end, despite the score sometimes. Most teams have weaknesses so I have honestly gone into every game thinking if we execute our game plan we have a chance to win. Zanesville showed that against Logan last week that anybody can compete with a well carried out game plan. Look at USC Oregon St., or Florida losing also. There is no way those teams should've been able to compete but yet upsets happen every single year. So, no matter what the score is, I'll be happy to be playing football. Of course after the game I'll be mad about losing but in the long run I don't care about the score. I just know that football is winding to an end and I want to make the most out of it that I can. A lot of kids at Marietta say they don't want to play football because of our losing record and all that crap, and that is what makes me mad. Why would you want to miss out on playing football? I'm sure many posters on this site can talk forever about how much they miss being on the field, and that's why I don't want highschool to be over. I'm going to really miss it.
