Wood, Smith top GAHS tacklers in Chillicothe, Wellston games

Evan Wood, 5-11, 160-pound senior, and Austin Smith, 6-0, 185-pound sophomore, were top Gallipolis tacklers in the Chillicothe and Wellston games played on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10.

At Chillicothe,Wood had seven solo tackles and three assists. Tyler Wachs had five solos and one assist, Jared Gravely five tackles and one assist, Nate Allison four tackles and one fumble recovery and Corey Mason four tackles and three assists.

In the home game with Wellston last Friday, Smith had three solo tackles and six assists. Beau Whaley and Justin Northup each had three tackles, Shaun Pethel had two tackles, two assists and caused one fumble, Clint Saunders two tackles and caused one fumble and recovered one fumble, Quin Nibert two tackles, one assist and a recovered fumble, Tyler Grimm two tackles, Dylan Hunter, C. J. Harrison and Josh Curry one tackle while Harrison had a sack and Jerrod Wray one recovered fumble.

After eight games, Wood leads GAHS tacklers with 35 solos, 18 assists, and one pass interception. Gravely is second with 21 solos, five assists, and two fumble recoveries.

Quin Nibert is third with 19 solo tackles, two assists, and three pass interceptions. Tyler Wachs is fourth with 17 solo tackles, and five assists, while C. J. Harrison rounds out the top five with 16 solos, six assists, a fumble recovery and one sack.


Clint Saunders has 15 solo tackles, two assists, and two fumble recoveries. Shaun Pethel has 14 solo tackles, five assists, and a fumble recovery and one sack. Beau Whaley has 14 solos, two assists, and a pass interception while Austin Wilson has 13 solos, three assists, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and Austin Smith with 13 solos, and seven assists.

jottings, your stats are a little off.smiths weight is 200lbs and smith caused both fumbles in the wellston game ,Tom Young announced that on the radio and in the chilli game he had 3 tackles in a row that i remeber with several after that ,you didnt even give his chillicothe stats. in the pictures of the wellston game ( page 10 pic.Dsc_8676) it shows smith knocking the ball loose and jered wray on the recovery on (pic. dsc_8677). (pic. DSC_8779) shows him in the process of stripping the 2nd fumble and( pic. dsc_8780 )shows someone recovering. Media still don't have weight, height charts...they were never released for the programs this year...

Here's a revised list of the Wellston game tackles, Previous list (I guess) was just a partial I received from the tapes.

Here’s a revised list of GAHS tackles from last Friday’s Wellston game:

Gravely, five solos, one assist, C. Saunders, 4 tackles, two assists caused and recovered one fumble, Pethel, four tackles, one assist and caused one fumble, Smith, three tackles and four assists, Wray, three tackles and one assist, Hunter, three tackles and one assist.

Harrison, two tackles, one assist and one sack, Grimm, two tackles and three assists, Wachs, two tackles and four assists, Dingess, four tackles, A. Wilson and Whaley, two tackles, Allison and Wood, one tackle and two assists, Nibert, one tackle and recovered fumble, Billings, Straight, B. Saunders one tackle, Lewis and Bays, one assist.
