GAHS Proud Moment
I don't know if this is a new or an old tradition but I witnessed one of the most inspiring moments last night at the Gallia Academy and Marrietta game.
After the game the Senior Football Players and Cheerleaders lined up across the field, held hands and walked the length of the entire field and back for the last time. Through the mud and all. Very touching moment. I don't think many people knew this was going to happened because very few people stayed to witness this inspiring event. If this is an old tradition please continue, if this is something the class of 2009 came up with please continue. This class of seniors are a class of leaders, go into the world and make a difference.

Re: GAHS Proud Moment
Logan started this tradition in 2001.
It is a very emotional moment for kids, parents, and fans. I'm sure it is the same in the French City.
It's gotten to the point up here that all the parents and fans stick around to watch "The Senior Walk."

Yeah, I think I did hear someone call it "The Senior Walk". Very impressive, I hope this will carry through the years. Something for the Seniors to remember and the underclass men to look forward to. IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!
Re: GAHS Proud Moment
Great tradition that has been going on for awhile. Some fans near me were somewhat irritated that the Tigers were unknowingly delaying "The Walk" by sliding in the mud. Most people probably do not know about it. Certainly touching, win or lose. What a great class this year!

I've seen it done at Sheridan and New Lexington. Regardless of the fact that it's not unique to Gallia Academy, I think it's a really nice moment.

Re: GAHS Proud Moment
To anyone that was “irritated†by the tigers sliding in the mud, so sorry. You should tell someone that you have plans to “have a moment†after the game. I sure wish I could have watched what I am sure was a special moment for the Gallia kids. Let’s remember that it is just that for the kids. The “moments†football brings to the kids are there’s and not the parents or anyone else. The Tigers beat a good football team. The tigers won in a way that no one thought they could and that was by running. The passing game was not there for the Tigers so the line and the backs got to show that they can carry the load. Think about this the Tigers have seniors as well. The Tigers played there last game as well. What happened after the game by some of the Gallia fans was horrible. There were fans cursing at the kids and yelling at the coaches to get the “f---“off the field. Not one of the loud, fowl mouthed people yelling said that “we at Gallia have a tradition to walk the fieldâ€. The Gallia players were not even ready to walk when the confusion started. When they were on the goal line ready to go the coaches had the tigers off the field. Anyone that was part of the way the tigers were spoken to after the game should be ashamed of themselves. Also they all should be reminded that that sort of language should be reserved for the bars and there home, Not a public high school ran function. Before this happened I had never had any trouble with anyone from Gallia. You can’t relive your youth through your child so let them have there moments without butting in. The coaches from both teams have anything and everything under control on the field before, during, and after the game. I will say to the Gallia seniors the Tigers would not have held you up if we had known that you had anything after the game planed. I am sorry if we ruined anything you were doing. If we would have known I am sure all our kids would have stood on our sidelines and watched what sounded like a great moment. Instead we had to make sure our kids and that’s what they are kids, got to the locker room safe. The great thing about the situation is that the people that had the foulest and biggest mouths had jerseys on with numbers of who they were supporting. I am writing a letter to the principal and athletic director of Gallia Academy, I am sure they would want to know who would have been treating high school kids this way. Such a shame that a few would tarnish what I have always thought was a great bunch of fans, and people.

Big cat Marietta, that was a great post and I agree with you . Nobody told Marietta this was happening and it seemed like they were just being kids and having fun in the mud. I did not take it as disrespectful at all. I just take it as lack of communication. I heard as well that there was a Devil fan who came out on the feild and used some fowl mouthed language to tell Marietta to get off the feild. Marietta has always been a class act and have been great sportsmen. I have been a long time Devil fan and I cheer as hard as any and want gallipolis to win at everything but please dont think that all Devil fans are this way. I would hope that this person just lost there cool after a hard battled game. there again I would think that a little communication would have gone a long way. GO BLUE

Oldschoolblue, I am sorry to come off a little strong. I have never posted a message that was negative that way. I was just shocked. I was just going to let it go. The kids involved were not upset and the Gallia coaches did not say anything to us. I would not let a few change my opinion about your team. You put a great team on the field every year and the league title seems to be in your reach every year. I have always respected Gallia as a player and now in my role with Marietta I respect you even more. I would have loved to watch as your seniors made there way across that memory soaked field. I am sure the rest of the Tigers would have loved to watch as well. I think that it is a great tradition, sounds like there are other teams that do the same thing. Very nice way to say goodbye. I did not want to offend anyone that did not participate in the vulgar displays of few. Thanks for the kind words. Good luck to the rest of your teams this season.

Re: GAHS Proud Moment
bigcatmarietta ... I have no doubt that the Tigers meant no disrespect to the GAHS seniors. The mud-dive was just kids caught up in the thrill of a good, hard-fought win. As for those among the GAHS fans that directed foul language at the Tiger players, I apologize to you and the rest of the Marietta folks who had to witness that. As oldschoolblue said, those few certainly do not represent the majority of GAHS fans.

I have also seen Meiges Eastern do this about two years ago. They also called it a Senior walk,ot sure when they started this or if they have continuedthis. They waited until the Southern players had left the field.A southern "fan" in his fifties felt the need to go onto the field and walk through there line one of the most disrespectful acts I have ever witnessed from a visiting fan.Kids I can understand sliding through the mud after their last game, but an adult?

Re: GAHS Proud Moment
I was at the game and I saw Marietta coaches, as soon as they realized what was happening, rushing their kids off the field or at least to the sidelines with their parents. There was no disrespect, they were just unaware of what was going to happen. They were having their own "Senior Moments" and end of the season stuff. Several members of the coaching immediately intervened and got the Tigers off the field so Gallia could have their Senior Walk.

Re: GAHS Proud Moment
THIS TRADITION HAS BEEN A PART OF GAHS FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 4-5 YEARS AS I WATCH IT NEARLY EVERY YEAR.
BIGCATMARIETTA--
AS FOR THE RUDE BEHAVIOR AND LANGUAGE, THAT IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY AND I FOR ONE APPOLOGIZE FOR IT...
I DISAGREE WITH YOU IN REGARDS TO THESE MOMENTS BEING JUST FOR THE KIDS. I WATCH THESE ATHLETES GROW UP AND GO ON WITH LIFE EVERY YEAR. THIS MOMENT EACH YEAR IS FOR THEIR PARENTS, THEIR TEAMMATES, THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL AND YES- THEIRSELF--- TRADITION IS A LARGE PART OF MEMORIES.
AGAIN ... HATS OFF TO MARIETTA ON THE WIN--- SEE YA IN ROUND BALL... GO BLUE !!
