Region 17

Post by CN2 »

Things shook up quite a bit this week.

1.Kirtland 9-0 W
2.Monroe Central 8-1 W
3.Crestview 8-1 W
4.Memorial 7-2 W
5.Columbiana 7-2 L
6.Southern 8-1 W
7.Garaway 7-2 W
8.Barnesville 7-2 L
9.Springfield 7-2 W
10.St Thomas Aquinas 6-3 L
11.Cuyahoga Hts. 8-1 W
17.Ursulina 3-6 W

A lot of talk about Ursuline getting in with 4 wins. However, it seems as if they need a W and some help to get in. If I am a betting man, Ursuline will be at home week 11 watching tv. I think it is safe to say the four hosting teams will be Kirtland, Monroe Central, Crestview, and Memorial. Now the question is who is 5-8? Here is my prediction.

5.Garaway
6.Cuyahoga Hts
7.Columbiana
8.Springfield

Agree with the teams you have in but I see the bottom 5-8 a little more like this:

5.Cuyahoga Hts
6.Columbiana
7.Garaway
8.Springfield

Would be cool though to see MC host Columbiana in the first round after their week 1 game where Columbiana won 13-7. MCs line has improved ALOT since then and would be a great game IMO.

I see it as:

1. Kirtland
2. MC
3. Crestview
4. Campbell
5. Cuy. Heights
6. Garaway
7. Springfield
8. Columbiana

I think the Ursuline monster has been slayed. They need a lot of help to get in. Although I'll believe it when I see it.

With Ursuline not in I think Campbell and Kirtland are the teams to beat, but MC can compete in this region. I'm not sure how many of these teams have separate oline and dlinemen which will be a big advantage over MC. Always is.

I hope Ursuline gets no help either although any of these other teams above would probably be 0-9 right now if they had Ursuline's schedule.

Monroe Central is in SEO (Woodsfield), Garaway's boy's and girl's basketball teams have played in a lot of SEO regional basketball tournaments in Athens over the years, Campbell-Columbiana and Crestview are along the Ohio river with Kirtland, Cuy. Heights and Springfield being in the Akron / Canton area.

Maybe any of these other mainly rural/small town teams would have the same record as Ursuline against the same schedule if they were located in a metro area of nearly 80-100,000, could control their enrollment to be in the division they so choose, and had access to blue-chip quality athletes to bring into their program. We'll never know. :-D

Also, I'd say 1-8. Cleveland East Tech may be D1, but they are absolutely horrible. A playoff quality D5 team could beat them.

Well, your moniker explains why you don't know anything about football, for starters. A boatload of SE Ohio teams got "realigned" by the OHSAA into Region 17 this past spring due to all of the whining, crying, and pissing and moaning being thrown at them by the Wayne County teams, who have (and should be, when you look at it from a geographical standpoint) been in Region 17 and dealing with Youngstown University stomping the snot of of them when the playoffs come.

Politics come into play, and the OHSAA basically cherry picks the PVC DV teams from Region 19 and puts them in Region 17 with Youngstown U, and then puts the Wayne county crybabies into Region 19 in SE Ohio. Get the Ohio map out, look at the teams in Region 19, and I think it will become quite apparent to anyone with a brain what transpired.

Monroe Central is a perennial playoff qualifier in SE Ohio, and if you don't know who they are, well, then that speaks volumes about your football knowledge.

FOS, thanks for stepping up and providing a little clarity to the newbie.

No problem, someone has to help the newbies out. If they're young pups it's the only way they'll ever learn anything because I don't think these colleges teach them much anymore other than critical thinking skills and how to ask for a raise on the job. Ask most of them about politics, geography, history or just simple cause and effects of things that have happened in the United States even over the last few years and they have no clue.

I agree with you 100%. In my opinion, it is up to the parents to teach them about politics, geography, history, cause and effect, as well as prep them for what they are going to have to deal with in terms of the financial mess they are being handed by their parent's generation. They aren't going to hear about it in college. It doesn't fit the academia agenda.

Kirtland and Crestview are the only teams I think MC would have a really hard time against. The rest I believe MC can beat, or at least it would be a pretty tight game.

I don't know if they could keep up with Cuyahoga Heights or St. Thomas if they made it in

Cuyahoga Heights I think they could. STA probably not, but they have to beat a good Canton Central Catholic team to get in. I'm just going by what I read though. I haven't seen Cuyahoga Heights play.

Anyone who is familiar with DV football has heard of these teams, believe that. Monroe Central is a darkhorse IMO to win Region 17.

unless STA passes Cuy Heights too. Might come down to the Chanel/Trinity game whether STA can pass them for the 6th seed.

I hope the Noles have a fun week of practice and stay loose. They might surprise us.

I don't know much about finding the points but where would STA move to if just Kenmore won? Because that seems like the only sure win for them.

I like Kirtland and St Thomas Aquinas as the favorites in this region.
