Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
As far as I know, they have never played. Really, the only way these two would have ever played was in the playoffs, before the Woodsfield/Skyvue consolidation, and when they were Woodsfield, they usually ran into that buzzsaw called Newark Catholic every year. The farthest any Jay Circosta coached team has gone was the semi-finals seven or eight years ago when they lost to eventual state champion Bedford St. Chanel.
A couple of years after consolidation (and having moved up to Division five), MC had arguably its best team ever, and they lost to eventual state champion Lisbon David Anderson 17-14 on a last second play up at St. Clairsville on a snowy, wet night. I was at that game and never left a high school game more disappointed in my life.
MC has only won the region one time, and Woodsfield never did, so I don't believe that these two programs have ever played.

Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
^^^Didn't know that. Never would have expected us to play a regular season game against DSJ. About as far from each other as you can get in Ohio.

Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
WHo was the team #1 in the state that Woodsfield beat in the playoffs in 93? What is a Marion team?
Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
Marion Pleasant Spartans. That WHS team had lots of size and speed up front with Lumpy Dalrymple and JR Young to name 2. It was also the last Woodsfield team. They lost the next week to Newark Catholic 7-3 on a pick 6.

And I sh*t you not I was at that game too. Marion Pleasants vs. Woodsfield, at Gahanna Lincoln High School. Hell of a game. Last year that I lived in Franklin county.spacemountain wrote:WHo was the team #1 in the state that Woodsfield beat in the playoffs in 93? What is a Marion team?
Coming out party for freshman Luke Schumacher in that game. Pleasants couldn't stop the 14 year old in crunch time. It was awesome.
Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
I actually have the video of that game. One of my favorites to pop in an watch now and then. One of the few WHS/MC teams that actually had the size up front to wear out another team which is what happened. It wasn't a pretty offensive performance, except at crunch time; but defensively it was a gem. What game isn't great when the old Polecat works to perfection? Did they outlaw that play? That was always one Coach C brought out at least once a year, but I haven't seen it in YEARS. I assumed they made it illegal.

Any chance I could get a copy of that game. Would love to add it to the vault.

Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
NC game was a tough one...hold a team to 41 yards....two horrible calls. NC and Lisbon games make me sick. Imo we win state both years and 02 we have a shot if we play anyone other than Div 1 Bedford Chanel disquised as D5 team.
Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
NC was several years but the one we're talking about was '93.
Lisbon was '95.
I can't remember who we beat in '95 in the first round to play Lisbon. Anybody remember? Also, did we lose to Heath in the playoffs one year? I can't remember.

Geesh, I went to that Berne Union game, they had a big back that MC just couldn't stop. I don't recall where that one was played. Went to the 95 game against the Ceramics, that one was played at Meadowbrook. I swear to God, it seemed like we had to park about 2 miles away from the field, and once we get inside the field, there was no where to sit, and no where to stand. We ended up standing on a hill up by a concession stand and couldn't see squat. That was a bad choice by the OHSAA for a playoff game.
Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
SD,
No, i believe that Crooksville game was at Cambridge.
Think that was the only time MC played Crooksville. The state should require an all-turf field in every county.

Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
Crooksville game was at Meadowbrook, that was the only playoff game my Dad ever went to, and I felt bad that we had to walk so far. I think the score was like 18-6, MC. I went to Cambridge to watch MC play that game as well, maybe that was the Berne Union game. If I recall, MC lost that game, because I left not very happy. That sounds about right, it would have been 1994, as I had moved from Columbus back to Southern Ohio in the spring, and I met up with some of my HS classmates at the game in Cambridge. Back then very few high schools had turf, and if I recall correctly, the 93, 94, and 95 first round games for Woodsfield/MC were all played on grass. (Gahanna, Cambridge, and Meadowbrook). I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that was the location order in which they were played.
Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
Monroe Central evidentally played Crooksville twice in the playoffs. I have no recollection of the first Crooksville game that you are referring to at Cambridge, Steely Dan. For a few years in the mid-90s I couldn't make a couple playoff games so I just don't remember them.
The second was in 2001 in the second round and it definitely was played at Meadowbrook. The score was something like 22-3 or something in that neighborhood.

Re: Quick Monroe Central Question
Thanks selonmc, that helps. I have had an epiphany. The Berne Union game was at Zanesville. The first Crooksville game was at Cambridge. The second one was at Meadowbrook. All of my kids were there, they would have been way too young for the first game against the Ceramics. So, the 2001 game was the one I was thinking of at Meadowbrook.
