Siders vs. Trojans
Brand new stadium, saturday night, and two teams trying to prove something.
Not trying to take anything away from week one, but this could be the biggest game in the county for a long time.

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
This game could go a long way for the Trojans. I expect you will see a much different team then the one that took a beating at West last year. We were barley more then a J.V. team last year. This year there should be no excuses, but this will be a very good West team as well. All this should make for a great game, when you add on the fact that the whole county will be out to see our new place. Hopefully the Trojans will come out with a sense of pride and open the new stadium with a Trojan victory, just as we opened up the Rock with a Trojan victory.

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Like I said both teams have alot to prove. Portsmouth losing season last year. West losing a lot of seniors.
I know the trojans junior class is suppose to be the one. But with Coach Tripplet, and the return of some key players (Pendleton, Murphy, Mcgraw, and Compton). And the youngsters we have coming up. I'm going against the odds, and taking the Siders. Should be a game for the ages. Best of luck to both teams.

That place will be rockin for sure. Better get presale tickets.
I suspect Portsmouth will be improved, but they need to get way better on defense to stop West's running attack. West will need a few young kids to grow up fast. West returns alot in the front seven, but will be breaking in a whole new defensive backfield. Fairland probably won't be much of a game, so this will probably be their first test and Clifford will surely try to throw the ball with Myers. Their question will be whether they'll be able to give him time or will he be running for his life like last year. I don't think they'll be successful running the ball with Pendelton and Compton at the LB's.
If West is able to run the ball between the tackles effectively, coach will play ball control and keep pounding those big backs at Portsmouth and wear them down. If this happens, the game may look alot like last year.

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Portsmouth's program has been in the gutter now for several years. Gone are the glory years when talent alone got it done for the Trojans.
I am still trying to figure out how they had 2 D1 lineman and couldnt move the ball against decent teams last year, and couldnt stop the run
I think that West wins this game rather easily....by 2-3 TD's.

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Glory Days? Please remind me how many State Championships Portsmouth has. Portsmouth does'nt have the enrollment advantage anymore. We're all pretty equal, so now it comes down to coaching and the kids. And I would never bash any kids. I think that Coach Tripplet has a weightlifting program second to none. We've always had some talent, but maybe lacking in discipline, and commintment. Coach Tripplet and his staff are putting a program in place that strives for both. I think that were at the beginning of very good times for Sider Football!
Re: Siders vs. Trojans
we all know , West is going to be good with the returners they have coming back.
Portsmouth has some younger kids, that got some playing time last year, hopefully the experience , and playing time has helped, and they can step it up this year.
the kids on this team are good athletes, and they will win their share of games before their high school career is over, I hope it starts this year
looking forward to a huge crowd, and hope to see a great game

I don't think we can call them young this year. Most of our starters will probably be juniors, with a year of experience under their belt. We return a bunch from last year; the only problem is we return a bunch from a team that went 1-9. Hopefully this year’s team has grown up and is ready to step it up and play some Trojan football.
1-9 is unacceptable; we must have a dramatic improvement over last year. Mediocrity breeds mediocrity. The Trojans must not become accustom to losing.
Football is a hard game. If it wasn't every school would have 100 kids out, and be a great team. This team has the god given athletic ability to be good, now we must see if they put in the time and effort to become a good team.
Biggdowgg I didn't mean to rip on you or your comment, I just don't want anyone to make excuses for this team (even though I don't think you meant to). This team should need no excuses.
Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Portsmouth will be back. The field will help get more players out. Your right though, losing breeds losing, and with that brutal schedule they have, losing is easy to do.
All teams go through cycles of talent. Portsmouth is just down from what they were accustomed to having. They don't have that jaw breaking break away threat like Parker or Boldin. I read about their defense being down, but look at the guys playing. That didn't look like Portsmouth talent except for Myers and Johnson.

Great post Trojan_FB_Alum! PORTSMOUTH does not and should not make excuses. PLAYERS - think you are the best, work like you are the best, and you will become the best.

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
TrojanFB Alum is right on these points........ (1)1-9 is unacceptable, regardless of who we're playing, (2) we are indeed not young this coming year........we have a veteran team with plenty of experience.....and (3) mediocrity breeds mediocrity.......just look at our basketball program........7 straight losing seasons......once a losing streak starts, it's hard to right the ship because a negative mindset develops........
We have some things to improve on, but our kids are talented, and can correct the deficiencies of last year..........if they do, they can make a run at the playoffs.

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Portsmouth's offensive line and defense have to step it up. There are a lot of kinds who could play both ways that dont. I believe is Portsmouth plays the best 11 guys instead of the best 22 (referring to your D1 recruits who only played one way) there will be a huge difference from last year. All the juniors i personally know are staying in shape and cant wait to crack and turn some heads. I believe they will put the last couple seasons in the back of everyone's mind.
Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Portsmouth is no longer considered a young team. They have worked hard in the weight room this off season. West can not be considered young either with what they have coming back. I no longer want to hear about past Jr High stories with this Junior class. This is the year they will produce on the big stage and prove just how good of a class they really are. They have the talent, they have put the work in the weight room, and know how to win games together. I think this is a playoff year for this team. If I'm wrong so be it, but I believe in this group of kids. They did go 1-9, but had chances to win at least 3-4 more games last year (Jackson,Gallipolis, and Warren). If this young team had gone 4-6 or 5-5 instead of 1-9, people would be talking about this team so much differently. I don't think they lose the opening game of the new stadium to a good West team. I believe they get off to a good start this year. Build the confidence early and show case their talents as the season goes on. GO TROJANS

Re: Siders vs. Trojans
Trojans better be more physically prepared than early last year because West is always physical! We need to open with a win in our new digs which are sweet. Good luck Coach C.
Re: Siders vs. Trojans
I'm doing some work on a little side project and I am looking for the new logo thats on the trojans helmets now. preferably a .jpeg file
Also it'd be nice to have a .jpeg file of the the old script Trojabs that used to be on the helmets.
