siders looked good today|||

Post by siderpower »

good job today boys ,you looked real good....gahs had a big team, very big line ,i m sure we will face no line bigger than this all year , it sure showed that the weight room was paying off......if we can get by the first 2 or 3 games and get a few kinks worked out we will be fine ,just ask some of the trojan scouts that were there today ,they were sure asking "who was that" alot, any way keep up the good work "siders ' ....and as far as the fans lets get out and support our boys, like the good ole days when the helmets and shirts said "SIDERS" and every one talked how vocal and wild the "SIDERS "were , good luck luck boys and listen to your coaches

I feel Gallia is still trying to figure out what they have. Looked to me that there was alot of missed assignments.

didn't get to make it today. I heard we threw for a couple touchdowns. What was the score? How did the line look? Pass defense? Everyone came out injury free I hope

trojan scouts at a srimmage?

what time did you play? because I was at our scrimmage at Minford from 10 untill around noon, and ALL of our coaches, even jr high coaches "who scout" was out there.

and yes, I seeen some Portsmouth West people at Minford, but never dreamed they was scouting :122246 .

I think both teams already know who each other has coming back.... 8)

There was 3 scouts from Portsmouth there. Well let me put it this way, I saw 2 guys with Portmouth shirts on. 1 guy had an Ohio State shirt on. They were carrying clipboards, and went to the pressbox. Call'em what you want, but I would call'em scouts. Why would'nt we scout each other?

talked to someone that went. He said we won 21-0 varsity. Said they were big up front, but West pretty much did whatever they wanted. He said they only ran the vanilla stuff. Defense looked really good also. He said as optimistic that we were about the season, that were better than he thought we were. He watched the Burg last night and in his opinion were as good or better. Sounds good to me.

Dont know how you can compare teams from scrimmages when most teams r just trying kids at new positions. Glad West looked good. Hopefully many teams from the area can go to playoffs.

like posted above, not sure why you would scout anyone in a scrimage game...I know for a fact it wasnt the ones that scouted last year, because they was at Minford.

but who knows...like I said,I seen some guys at Minford withw est shirts on also, so maybe they do scout scrimages.

People who say it is stupid to scout scrimmages do not know what they are talking about. A good scout may pick up little things that will help them in their regular season game. Once while scouting we noticed the way the fullback positioned his feet told us the way he was going (Which usually led us to the ball, as he was a stud). You may also find weaknesses in the line. Certain coaches have certain tendancies. Some coaches run the ball to their sideline the vast majority of the time. There are so many things a good scout can pick up. It would be crazy not to send a scout anywhere. While these are just a few of the many things that can be seen from scouting, a good staff will also scout themselves. Sometimes you don't realize some of your tendancies until you break your own film down from an opponet's point of view. Sorry to go on and on, but scouting is a very valuable tool if done right.

This is the first West scrimmage that I missed in quite a while and Portsmouth has always been there before. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't be there now. Usually it's Clifford and some other coaches, but since they were at Minford it had to be somebody else.

To say that scouting is not needed is absolutely ridiculous. Take Ironton for instance. They have ran the same stuff for 30 years. Do you not think that you would still want to scout them to find the strengths and weaknesses of each player? That is one of the craziest things I've read on here.

/ either means he thinks its bull or ut-oh. I would lean toward the latter. IMO the opening of the new stadium is not going to be pretty for the Trojans.

Fido, you are correct that it comes down to the basics. Usually, it is who has the best horses on the field also. However, as a coach, it is my job to give my players their best chance to win. Therefore, I suggest scouting PLUS watching game film. The problem with watching game film alone is also the quality of the film some teams trade with you. They may not have the whole team in the frame or may be filming at a wide angle and you cannot see the weaknesses in the line. A team may trade you a film from a game that it's opponets off. and def. were totally different from yours. That film will not help you prepare for your opponet as well and more adjustments will have to be made during the game. Then there are the "trick" plays they may run in one game and not the other. I would like to have my team aware of these things. One more thing and I will shut up. With technology today I have known a few coaches to edit their film before trading with the opponet. We were breaking down film before and realized a team only ran two plays before they punted. We checked our scouting report and our scouts had the reverse they tried to run drawn up for us. Sorry to rant, but, as you can tell, I am a big supporter of scouting.

The quality of the film is a big thing. There is a local school whom I won't name that is known to purposely trade bad tapes. It is believed that they tape the game twice. One being a good copy, a wide angle, and the other being zoomed in and out not showing the passing routes, etc. They keep the good copy for their own review and trade the other. May be good with the rules, but dirty none-the-less. It is only an accusation, but a reliable one.

If it is a rule that you must trade game tapes, then an altered film like that you said should result in some type of violation.

What you said about the previous opponent is a factor also. Say their previous opponent sucked and the starters were out by the half or they were so bad that the coaches used it as a trial because they knew they were in no danger to loose. You wouldn't see any of their normal stuff.

I feel that you can't get a feel for certain aspects of a team such as size and speed simply by watching a tape. sometimes you just have to see it to believe it.

Why not find out as much as possible about a team before you play them?

In response, again. Maybe they block better because they know when the linebackers
are going to blitz, which they was taught all week from the scouting report. You can
learn the little things that all add up after 4 quarters. As in offense, all coachs have
their own plays that makes them so much different then the next. Minford-bucksweep,
Burg-triple option, West-miss direction. Even though you, for example may run a wing-
tee, your plays may vary differently because the backfield changed due to graduation.
Hopefully every team tries to get better, so steps, cadence, motion, pass routes, all
change. Sometimes they don't. But you don't know till you scout.
