Waverly (1-0) at Jackson (1-0)
This game is always a tough game. Other than the first game of the season for each of the teams, this is becoming a huge rivalry for each school.
Waverly's defense showed some promise Friday night and according the Jackson radio so did the Ironmen defense especially in the second half.
Waverly's offense struck with the big plays and the defense forced three turnovers.
Any other thoughts?
P.S. : I always look forward to making the trek east on 32 because Jackson had one of the best facilities around.

Both teams showed they have the ability to win a game but the jury is still out on just how good either team might be. This will be an important game for both teams and it will come down to defense and turnovers.
Re: Waverly (1-0) at Jackson (1-0)
Jackson and Waverly have certainly developed quite a rivalry in recent years. Every now and then, there's a lopsided game either way, but for the most part, it's a battle when these two teams get together. Waverly seems to be stocked with athletes again with Roback, Malone, and company. Their line play and defense must have been very solid last night as well.
Jackson was solid at times against Wellston, but they made WAY too many mistakes. If they can cut out the penalties this week, I really like where the offense is going. Wandling was pretty impressive in the passing game and he has quite a few capable targets. The running game for Jackson seemed to be pretty solid last night as well. The O-line needs to continue to improve, but they ARE getting better each week. Jackson played very well defensively against the Rockets and they'll have to be even better against Waverly's explosive athletes.
Should be another great game between the Ironmen and Tigers.

jacksons dfence didnt look good. WELLSTONS OFFENSE just completely sucked. they made mistakes and jackson took advantage of it. waverly will blow them out
Re: Waverly (1-0) at Jackson (1-0)
So the defense has nothing to do with an offense struggling? Also, when you say mistakes, what are you referring to? I'm pretty sure Wellston had zero turnovers. Of course there were missed blocks or incompletions, but that's also a result of pressure on the QB and aggressive defense.
I'm not trying to say that Jackson's defense was absolutely dominant, but when a team has only 3 first downs in the second half, that's pretty solid. I expect Waverly to be a huge test for Jackson's defense. Roback isn't going to Toledo for nothing, and he has plenty of weapons to help him.

O2 I agree with you , Jackson's defense did a good job in the second half. They put pressure on Willkett, they did a good job of shutting down Wellston's running game which even without Prater ran well in the first half.
This is always a heated game between Waverly and Jackson, should be a dandy. Good Luck to both teams and good health.

Waverly comes out fast and scores 2 ealry td's and then hangs on to win by two.
Re: Waverly (1-0) at Jackson (1-0)
If Jackson runs the ball they can win. If they stay in a spread passing attack Waverly will hurt them. Waverly's defense has had to defend Roback and company in practice for a while now so I think they can handle the passing attack.

Jackson is gonna have to win the battle up front on both sides of the ball and keep the ball away from the tigers. Tigers looked pretty solid physically against a tough piketon squad and came away with a hard fought win. It will be an interesting early season test for both squads. Jackson is always a tough game at home and i look for the tigers to get the W.
Ironman02, hope you enjoyed the game this past saturday. Wish I could have watched it, even though the ironmen won it again

Not exactly the same kids play both sides of the ball.

Gonna be a great game, in a great stadium, and great atmosphere!!!
If Jackson keeps it close at the end of the 3rd, they win! By staying fresh in the 4th, I like the subs that coach Hall did Saturday. Looked very fresh at the end of the game and saw some actual in game discipline when a missed assignment took place. Friday should tell both teams what to expect the rest of the year.
perdiction:
Jackson.......29
Waverly.......28
(win on a late 2pt conversion)

I'll go with the SOC team here. I have not been very impressed with Piketon and I think Jackson lacks some talent. I like the Waverly offense. Waverly in a clsoe game.

I see the Tigers winning this one in a hard fought battle...
Waverly 28
Jackson 21

crazy legs,
I think Jackson learned not to go for two-point conversions after what happened in 2005 against Waverly.

It is the scheme they understand. Most teams that run a wing T also know how to defend it. Who is on the field isn't as important as everyone knowing the scheme inside and out. Waverly's coaches and players have had the spread system in place a long time. Very prepared to defend it!!!!!
Re: Waverly (1-0) at Jackson (1-0)
I'll go with the talent of Waverly here. . . although I expect good things from Jackson in the not-too-distant future!

Re: Waverly (1-0) at Jackson (1-0)
2005 has nothing to do with any decision Coach Hall may or may not make.
