WOW......I for one had no idea who Bill Sauer was and why the field was named after him. Now I do, what an inspiration he must have been to the Logan Community. Great article.........

I really enjoyed reading the article and am glad that there will be a plaque at the new field to commemorate such a special person.

I have heard about the story of Bill Sauer before, but am glad that it has received national coverage. I only wish more communities had that kind of dedication and loyalty to their schools and teams. Sometimes it really is more about the people than the wins and loses in high school sports.

Great article that captures the spirit of Bill Sauer Field.

They have already moved the original plaque from the old field to the new place, it is a part of the new "pedestal" that holds the victory bell. Sounds like they are going to add something to that at a later date.

Always nice to read a heartwarming story about a fine gentleman who loved his team...........and a community and team that loved Bill.

I can't tell you how glad I am that Bill will be remembered at Logan's new stadium. It broke my heart to see the old field go and hoped that the memory of Bill wouldn't lost because of it. I knew Bill from the time I was old enough to buy penny stick pretzels from him at the swimming pool to the time he passed. Bill was my friend and a very close friend of my family. While in high school, the nights of basketball games I would listen for the sound of the horn coming from his King Midget and carry him in and place him in his front row seat. Any one that truly knew Bill will tell you that you didn't have to worry about dropping him if you carried him. The man had a death grip. He was without a doubt the biggest and best Chieftain fan ever. Kudos to those who will help his name continue with Logan sports.
RIP Suds, I love you.

WOW guys what a great story. I didn’t know why it was named Bill Sauer Field, but totally understand why now. This is such a great story of triumph over adversity, and must make all Logan residents very proud of their, community.

I had an opportunity to visit your beautiful new stadium this past spring for a track meet, and although it is beautiful and state of the art it must be a little bitter sweet to see the Chieftains calling some where other then Bill Sauer Field home. Here’s hoping they get that plaque up soon.

This is the kind of thing that would make a great movie.

Bill Sauer Field in later years wasn't as accomodating a venue to watch a game. Most of that had to do with limited access, NO parking and facilities whose time had come and gone. Still, the closest EXPERIENCE I personally can compare it to is old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Wasn't the most comfortable or pretty palce to watch a game but, wow, the history and the ambience. I love the new stadium and wouldn't trade it for the world but the feeling (not to mention the acoustics) is just not the same.

What do you mean no parking? My uncle lived right behind it..I frequented his driveway on many a Friday nights! LOL...and if I didn't get there soon enough to get a seat..we'd just pop up a chair and sit in his backyard and watch it! LOL

Bill Sauer Field.......there is alot said in those three little words.

Easier said then done would it be to describe that stadium by any player or fan who had the chance to walk onto that field. And I don't mean just Logan players/fans, I can remember after the Logan/Dublin Coffman playoff game, the Coffman fans saying that it might not be great, but there was just something there that you couldn't describe that made it awesome.

I myself am glad to have had the chance to play there and partake in the long history that was made there.

Stories like this are known locally and some are known regionally, but never nationally. This little story just makes me think of all those other little schools out there that don't get a chance to have their story heard.

Sad to see it go, but it was a must....
