Warren Warrior Football: Winning Season

Post by warrnwarriorfan »

The season is by no means over, but I thought it was appropriate to acknowledge a bit of a milestone for the Warren football program . . . a winning season. Friday's victory over Meigs locks-up Warren's first winning season in this decade (and century!). Lots of folks have put a bunch of work into the gradual turn-around of the program. Football at Warren is looking like it will be on solid ground for the foreseeable future.

I'm glad I lived to see it! ;-)

Seriously, congratulations to the Warren players and coaches. Now go get some more wins.

Here are the numbers:

Season Wins Losses Head Coach
2009 6* 0 Pifer
2008 4 6 Pifer
2007 3 7 Pifer
2006 3 7 Bolen
2005 1 9 Santini
2004 2 8 Santini
2003 0 10 Santini
2002 0 10 Grider
2001 4 6 Welsh
2000 4 6 DeVol

* more to come.

I really do think the turning point was the development of the Youth League. That and the fact that we have actually had a head football coach stay with the program for more than 1-2 years. The boys out there today have been playing football together for around 8 years now. There is a lot of praise to pass around for the turn around of the program. But I have to say I am proud to be part of the warrior community. There are a lot of good people that volunteer a lot of time for these kids. This includes a lot of people that no longer have kids in school any longer. I’m glad we are having this special season, the kids, parents and fans deserve every one of these wins. It’s so great to see the community behind the team and the amount of support this year is great. We believe in our team, our program and our players. Let’s keep it up Big Blue.

I will say this there was a youth program started in 1968 and those players on the Bob Hill teams and Mike Devol teams (many winnings seasons for both coaches)came from that organization. For many years it was a well run group of dedicated people. The new organization also was a well run organization and many of this years team came from it. It takes dedication at all levels and the dedication of the kids in those organizations. The proof is in the team this year. Now what is needed is for this to continue. A good team does not a good program make. What is needed now is to continue with the prograss and continue to build the program for now and in the future. Good job to all involved.
