2010 Outlook:
To outsiders, it may seem like Ron Hinton has bitten off more than he can chew at Chillicothe. After all, the Cavaliers were a mess at the end of 2009 stumbling to 9 straight losses and a 1-9 season overall in Bill Davidson's last campaign.
However, Hinton's discipline first team concept may be just what Chillicothe needs with a talented senior class ready to take over. The Cavaliers return two of the league's top playmakers in Casey Oates and Isaac Beverly and can only improve on last years results.
First off, the blue and white will need a quarterback, and its safe to assume that Oates won't be under center again giving him the ability to play running back, his natural position. Max Corcoran, who spent 2009 with Hinton at Amanda, and Aaron Elliott are likely going to battle for the nod. Elliott played with the CHS JVs last season.
The rest of the backfield will have experience with Oates and Brandon Whittaker both being returning starters. Oates led the Cavs with 340 yards and 2 touchdowns last season and Ferguson came on late in the season to gain 306 yards with an average of 4.64 per carry. Oates also led the Cavs with 331 yards and a touchdown on 35 catches last fall. Ronnie Mango adds depth.
Beverly and the loser of the QB competition will likely split out at receiver. Beverly made 16 catches for 238 yards and 2 TDs in 2009. Kenny Doles, Marcus Dunn, Dereck Milliken, and Stefan Hinty add depth. Dylan Osborne should move from fullback to tight end.
Up front, Skyler Mallow is the lone returning starter with David Gearhart and Chris Wemer likely starters as well.
Defensively, Osborne and Mallow lead the defensive line at end and tackle respectively while Knute Bonner is a leading contender for the nose guard spot.
Whittaker and Mango are linebacking prospects while Oates, Doles, and Beverly are returning starters in the secondary.
Chillicothe's schedule is no walk in the park with Big Walnut and Ironton along with Athens (coming off a 9-1 season) in the non-league portion. But expect Hinton to exceed the expected 3-4 wins out of Chillicothe and get near .500.

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
I doubt that Brandon Curtis will be out there. Without trying to say anything bad about the kid, some people just do not have it in them to play the game of football. He quit last year about midway through the season and, knowing the kid personally, I just don't think he has the heart for football.
Also, the Cavs line will be very weak next year as listed so I would not be shocked to see a freshman or two starting on O-line. I have no personal experience with any of the freshman but from all accounts the 8th grade team had a few lineman last year with tons of potential. I have seen some of them and they definately have the size already for Varsity(or college) football. Whether they have the talent at this young age remains to be seen but I would not be suprised at all to see a freshman or two on the O-line. Mallow is a starter for sure. All other spots are open. Wemer has an inside track to start in my opinion as does Gearhart but neither is a lock and the other two spots are wide open.
Other than that I would say pretty accurate from my knowledge.

I don't think he was on the roster last year, at least not on mine. I was working off that.

Thanks for the info. Like I said, a lot of my Chillicothe stuff was a shot in the dark b/c I didn't see their JVs, and obviously the program was in a bit of turmoil last year, especially the end of the year.
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Max who is originally from Chillicothe tranferred to Amanda Clearcreek to play football is back and I believe its gonna be at QB(at least I hope so).....!

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
was he the starting quarterback last year on amanda's playoff team?
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
He was a db and wr. He will do a solid job as quaterback. He's fast and knows Hinton's program. We watched him a couple of times last year. He's a stand out player.
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Yea Max will help the Cavs out tremendously the kid is an athlete and a great overall kid! Just hope he has the blocking.....

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Looking for another losing season for the Cavs. They may get lucky and do 4-6 under the new coach and thats the best I expect them to do, but I expect they are in trouble as they don't have any depth or size. Injuries could ruin the season and a 2-8 or 3-7 season is more likely. The SEOAL remains too tough for Chilli.

Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Hinton won't stand for mediocrity for too long. Look for them to be a much improved team fundamentally and they will be contenders before too long.
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
I have no idea who you guys have been speaking to, but I do believe that Max will not be the QB. From the understanding that I have, a kid by the name of Aaron Elliott, who moved to Chillicothe at the beginning of The Basketball season will be the NEW QB. I saw this kid play basketball against us (Logan) and this kid is a great athlete. Amazing speed and I hear that he can throw it. No one knows for sure, but Im hearing Aaron Elliott as the QB. I guess we all will see. I will post more later as I plan on attending a 7 vs 7 or Coach Hinton camps to get a peek.
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Coach Hinton is rightfully preaching patience to the Cavalier faithful and with good reason. He'll time to develop the athletes for his style, but I believe with discipline and hard work, it will come. It sounds like the Cavs will have some options at QB, which is much better than last year when some great athletes had to play out of position for most of the year.
Good luck to the Cavs!
Good luck to the Cavs!
Re: 2010 SEOAL Previews: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Chillicothe had a 7 on 7 yesterday and Corcoran along with other's were at the QB position.
