What to look for in the Bulldogs this coming season

Post by blubomber89 »

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Bulldogs this year, it all depends on if they can get kids to step up on the line after losing so much. 9-1 maybe not but I look for them to be competetive. 6-4 or 7-3. But still holding out hig hopes

They won't survive week 10!
But if you guys come over to see the Trophy case you just might get a chance to touch the Doc Kroner Trophy.

The offensive skill positions at Athens should be really good with most of the starters returning. If and it's a big IF the new lines especially the D-line can be half as productive as last years lines they'll win at least 6 and as many as 8 in my opinion. I've talked to a few of the coaches this summer and they tell me the lines are gonna be better than most expect and that those kids are working hard in the weight room to get ready for their new roles. O&B it's a long way to week 10 but I think we'll show up and play the Bucks even though you don't think we stand a chance. As for the trophy case we've got one of those also and it's over flowing with nearly every title available in the TVC including one of those from football last year just like yours.

You can't blame the kids for beating the competition placed in front of them, last time I checked you can only play 11 on each side of the ball in football and all other sports are the same way. Gee Norply glad you think it's funny kinda like a few years back when Logan was a D1 beating up on a mostly all D3 league sorta seems the same to me.

Maybe I was laughing at what the person said and not Athens.
But then by thinking that way you might think they were right.

Right

I am proud of what Athens has been able to accomplish during our short time in the TVC and as I said the kids can't be blamed for playing games against teams in a league that has smaller schools than their own, someone has to be the biggest school in a given league no matter what. Vinton Co. is by far the next biggest school in the league and they were far from dominanting the league in all sports the way Athens has been able to so far. Athens has beefed up their football schedule considerably in the non league this year and will possibly pay the price with an extra loss or two but, if you look at how Logan built their program it was done in much the same way playing smaller schools gaining confidence for your kids and helping to boost the number of kids playing. I see Athens now much the same as Logan was back in like 01-02 type years, Logan in 02 was D1 and didn't have a single D1 on their football schedule and played both a D4 and a D5 school along with a league made up of all D2 and D3 schools. The following year Logan started to beef up their schedule much like Athens has this year and look where they are now. I can only hope Athens is able to turn a Logan like blueprint into a Logan like program in the future.

For another year, the "Cut and Run" attack runs all over those poor little schools in the Ohio Division...

Not to mention your beloved Ironmen have twice tried and failed to do the same thing.

Who do you think will be their biggest challenges in their non league games?

I look for the biggest non league test to be a much improved Warren team but Parkersburg So. has won WVA state titles in the last handful of years so I imagine they'll be a tough matchup also.

I remember the game and final score 13-14, I also remember that had Alexander not blown your doors off you'd have won it outright but that didn't happen either. :-D
