Week 3: Berne Union (0-2) @ Nelsonville-York (2-0)

Post by NYBuckeye96 »

The Buckeyes look to go 3-0 on the season, as NY plays its first of only 4 home games this season against the Berne Union Rockets. The Buckeyes are playing their second game against an MSL opponent in as many weeks after a solid win @ Newark Catholic.

This will be the fourth all-time game played between NY and BU -

NY leads all-time series 2 wins, 1 loss
2008 Berne Union (A) 28-14
2009 Nelsonville-York (H) 21-20
2010 Nelsonville-York (A) 42-14

I.M.O. The Buckeyes are better this season then they were last and it looks as though the Rockets are still a very struggling program. With that being said unless the Rockets have any type of passing game this one will be much like last years game.

Even if the Rockets have a passing game this game will be very one sided.

If the Buckeyes show up focused & ready to play they'll win going away if not then it could be a struggle. I'll take the Bucks 45-8

Good point. I've seen the Amanda's and DeSales up this way go 5-5, 6-4 etc. and make the playoffs. If you can win 3 or 4 games against larger schools you get tons of computer points on the year, especially if those teams you beat win a good number of games. On the other hand if you win 8 or 9 lopsided games against teams mediocre or below average your same size or smaller it doesn't help at the end of the year. I've seen it too many times over the years.

I think a good series if Coach wanted to pick up a good game would be Hartley. I know Hartley won the DIV state last year (won 1 lost 1 to Ironton) but I believe that would be a good home & home (plus it'd be a 10 minute drive for me). Hartley has stayed the same size for years and has had some decent players. They were very good back in the 70' and 80's then went in a lull for awhile and re-emerged in the 2000's as a consistent playoff contender. I've watched them lose a couple playoff games I thought they should have won and they really surprised me by winning the state last year but you never know what will happen year after year, especially with Catholic teams. They usually try to schedule good teams, have a new turf field that was unveiled this year, plenty of parking right on the road right outside the stadium fence and it would be any easy trip up US 33 straight in to the light at Livingston Avenue, take a right and the schools about 1/4 mile down the road. The trip would be about like traveling to Meigs & Wellston now.

I know I am stirring the pot here but I have to mention this. NY fans love to bash others about their schedules but after this week when NY is 3-0. they will be last of all the 3-0 teams in region 19 standings. I know that later in the year you will move up in the standings but you love to bash others but you will have the fewest points of any undefeated team in region 19 after 3 weeks because of your schedule. Again, I know I am stirring the pot but I just had to mention this. No offense to true NY fans, just to the ones who constantly bash other schools.

How many years do Trimble and Newark Catholic not offer big second level points for wins over them? Not many.

How many small schools in southeastern Ohio are capable of beating Trimble and Newark Catholic - even in down years? Not many.

NY's non league schedule this year: Trimble, Newark Catholic, Berne Union, Bishop Ready, Logan. Other than Berne Union, the other four are traditionally strong programs that provide major computer points in most years.

Now compare that to some schools who might play Eastern or Huntington as non-league games. It's one thing to schedule a Newark Catholic and expect them to have a good year, but it's another to schedule teams that rarely have good years and pad the non-league schedule.

Do you not see the difference?
