Week 2: Newark Catholic (1-0) @ Nelsonville-York (1-0)
The Buckeyes and Green Wave each enter week two undefeated.
Nelsonville-York defeated Trimble 14-6 and Newark Catholic defeated Harvest Prep. 27-14.
This is the first ever meeting between NY and NC, so there are no all-time series statistics this week.
The Buckeyes are entering the meat of their loaded non-league schedule. NY will be battle-tested when league play opens in week 6.

I will be there to see this one. Should be a very interesting matchup.
Re: Week 2: Newark Catholic (1-0) @ Nelsonville-York (1-0)
I would say NY is the favorite. NC won against Harvest Prep but that didn't tell me much. I don't know how good or bad Harvest Prep is, the season will tell. HP were bigger and more athletic than NC but NC was in better shape and tougher than HP. Over all NC looked better than they have the last couple of years. I'm looking forward to my trip to Nelsonville next week.

I won't make a prediction yet but will say I look for a low scoring game.

Nelsonville-York can win this game. They have to NOT turn the ball over.. With NY's D, they will be able to stay in any game. I'm sure NC will want to try and shut Dustin Young down but if they key on him then Cunningham will have a field day running the ball. Our line looked good against Trimble but they have to FINISH blocks. If they adjust the passing game a little Ny will be effective through the air. I am looking forward to this game. Buckeyes never quit. They get down but never out.

NY has to do a better job of finishing drives in the red zone. Turning the ball over inside the opponents 10 yard line can't happen this week.

Trimble's defense held the N-Y offense to 14 points and NC's is much better. I'll eat a lot of crow if I lose this prediction which should delight the N-Y faithful (but like Steely Dan on another thread, I'll at least need ketchup with it), my prediction: Newark Catholic 28 - Nelsonville-York 14.

They're like most Catholic teams. If it's a home game everyone's there, if it's a away game none of them travel well unless it's a playoff game and even at that it's not that much better. I've seen state championship games in football and baseball where a public school outnumbers them 10 to 1 in fans. Now if it's Bingo or Monte Carlo night at the school or church it's katie bar the door. It's even worse with the DVI teams, you'll get the parents, grandparent's, a small cheering section of student's and a few of the educator's and long time supporter's and that's it. :122247

That's too bad. At least it sounds like there are people in southeastern Ohio outside of NY who plan to go to this game, so maybe the attendance will be decent.

No matter what the final score is, NC will find out what hitting is all about.

They traveled well last week and with this game being huge as far as compter points goes for them I look for a playoff type crowd.

As you will be able to tell, I'm not a NC fan but I've been to some away non playoff games and NC had a nice following ( Bellville Clearcreak). Fans that are not too familar with NC football in the past decade will have to remember that this is not the same NC football program that your parents grew up with. Yes, they did win the '07 state championship but that was precluded and followed up by mediocre football.
NC has not qualified for the state playoffs for two years.... something that should never happen in their region. They graduated an all state lineman (Hendershot).... another really big strong kid( Clay Harris ) ....a good 2 year starter at QB ( Cox ) .... a all league tight end ( Adams ) and the leading rusher ( Moore ) so I would venture to say that NC is still a year away from a real playoff run ( I've heard they have a pretty good sophomore class). If Nelsonville York has a realistic shot at the playoffs, they should roll at home.

I definately can't make a prediction to this one, but I think it will be a defensive battle. NY should have beat Trimble a lot worse, fumbles shot them in the foot really bad. This is a very good matchup between to storied programs that are historically powerhouses in their leagues.. Good Luck Buckeyes.. I'll be there as usual...
