Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Portsmouth West Senators 2011
After a good season and playoff experience, we will look to further that success next season. I believe we will have the talent to do it.
Losses: Tanner Journey (Rb,Cb), Jerrod Bricker (Rb,Cb), Kyle Locher (Hb, Wr, Fs, De), Lee Compton (Te,Lb), Andy Sparks (Te, Dt, De), Shawn Caudill (G, Lb), Trevon Pendleton (Rb, Lb), Kyle Borders (Te, De)
By game 7 we had already lost two of those seniors (Compton, Pendleton) to injury/illness. The boys that we lost were all good players, but I feel that with the core we return we could be even better.

See if Mike Bower has any eligibility left. For an "old dude" I heard he still has a lively arm.

Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
I think the entire SOC II will be down next year. A ton of talent was lost across the board.
I also think that West/Valley will be the early favorites. West and Minford will return alot on the lines, but lose good athletes at the skill positions.
Valley returns alot at the skill positions, lose some on the line.
Ratliff should be a good QB next year, I think their success will depend on if they have a RB they can feed the ball to 20 times a game like they did with Pendleton for 3 years.

Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
I think it was one of our posters that said old lines win when talking about Wheelersburg before this season. We saw how that turned out and West is in the same situation this year with 4 or 5 starters back and lots of kids ready to step in, including Conway Cooper, who is as good as any. Offensive and defensive lines should be a major strength.
West has a 2 year starter at QB and 2 kids whom would start on most teams waiting in Frye and Morgan. Strength
Backfield has Auger back whom was probably was one of if not our best all-around player after Pendelton went down.
Then you have Crace, who probably would've played alot down the stretch if not for the broken leg and Sommers whom could be as good as anyone in the league if he works his tail off in the offseason. There are other really good backs in Meeker, Zaph, Bricker, and possibly Reynolds.
They have 3 really good pass catching TE - wide recievers in Frye, Bricker, and Carnes.
Defense should be really good also with a bunch of starters back.

Cory Summers could be a big key next year but he needs to get in the weight room everyday. He could be the back West will need to put them over the top.

OSU77 you may not know just how right you are. Corey is an unreal player, just needs to be stronger and have alittle more
self confidence. With him Auger, Crace, Zaph, and several others they should be alot of fun to watch again!!!

Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
I wonder without the big bruiser back if we might change our offensive philosophy a bit. Maybe a little wing T or more spread with the good passing QB, then mix the T in sortof like burg did this year?

Looks like if Coach Triplett does step down, Coach Shaffer will be the leading canidate. I also heard that Coach Triplett would like to stay on as strenghth and conditioning coach. Don't think nothing has been decided yet.
Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
We hear rumblings and rumors every year, but ultimately I believe Triplett will stay on as the Coach for 2011 and maybe even for 3-4 more years at least. Lets be honest, West can be a hard place to coach mainly because of the expectation and the fact that many fans and parents that think they can do a better job. All West fans and parents just need to be happy that we have good as man and a coach as Triplett, the kids love him and he has instilled discipline in a program that had little when he got there. The best thing anyone can do is to try to add to program by getting kids out and having a positive attitude.Black@Orange wrote:Looks like if Coach Triplett does step down, Coach Shaffer will be the leading canidate. As for speculation to who is next at West, I believe it will come from the outside. Schaffer would be a great choice, but with him being retired I don't think he wants the pressure of being a head coach again. Coach Miller is our d-coordinator and would make an excellent head coach, but he teaches/lives in Ironton and I doubt very seriously he would want it. Parkes would be the other choice, but I don't really think hes all that interested...I guess well just see who wants it when it happens

Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
It has nothing to do with players parents. Coach T. is not going to let a few parents run him off. We seen that last year! There is more to this than it just being a rumor. I have spoke to some involved, and nothing has been set in stone yet.
If there is an opening, I do think Coach Shaffer will be the leading canidate. I think he has gotten the coaching bug, after helping out this year. I don't think that Parks would be a good choice. I think he has been looking to go south for awhile.
Reguardless of who will be the coach is next year. The talent level is really good the next few years. There will be quite a few 3yr. starters returning. We won't have a "Pendelton" that we can lean on. So I look for a more balanced offense. I think that it will be a fun to be a West fan the foreseeable future.

If Triplett left and Shaffer wanted it, I think he would get it with little difficulty. He knows more about football than most people I have ever talked too. He was also a good coach at Portsmouth.Black@Orange wrote:It has nothing to do with players parents. Coach T. is not going to let a few parents run him off. We seen that last year! Re: Portsmouth West Senators 2011
Yes he was a good coach at Ports. (25 years ago). I don't want a 1 or 2 year coach and that's what we will have at someone
comming in 70 years old. Schaeffer seems like a great guy, it's not that. We need someone who will be here for at least the
next decade or so. I would love to see triplett stay!!!!
