South Gallia VS Symmes Valley Possibly coming to an end?
Heard through the gossip vine this game could possibly be ending after this year?? Heard that the new South Gallia coach may not be wanting to play this game anymore? Could there be any truth to this? This would be a shame as I know these 2 teams have played each other for years. I know that the Rebels haven't had a lot of success in the match up, but I still think it is a good gauge for both teams.
I think this series needs to keep going. The teams are geographically close and I know a lot of the fans from both sides know several people from the other side. Makes it a good atmosphere.

with the small amount of D6 teams out there I cant see this game ending. Ohio teams are already traveling deep into WV to play. This game is a win win for both schools. I hope it continues.

Symmes Valley has been playing Southwestern and Hannan Trace forever. When those schools combined to create South Gallia, the game has continued. It would be crazy to end this. The crowd is always good at this game.

As a colleague of Coach Peck, I can tell you that this series is over starting in 2012. Rebels need some out of conference wins with their tough league schedule.

So they are dropping the school that is the closest to them in travel, the same size as them, and their biggest gate for a guaranteed win? Let me guess............................ They are replacing Symmes Valley with Hannan, WV.BlizzardMan wrote:As a colleague of Coach Peck, I can tell you that this series is over starting in 2012. I have always found it strange that it seems as though Southwestern and Hannan Trace played Symmes Valley more competitively in football than South Gallia does. According to the OHSAA website, South Gallia has 209 students and Symmes Valley has 217 students. Basically same demographics, etc. Why the performance gap? I still think it's a mistake to end this game.

This may be a good chance for SV to add another bigger school to their schedule, maybe an OVC or SOC II school?

Why need to add another "bigger" school? They already have 2 Div. 4, and 2 Div. 5 schools on their schedule. Remember, SV is only a Div. 6 school. Maybe they can add a Wahama, Trimble, Reedsville Eastern or Buffalo team to their schedule. All, pretty good Div. 6 type schools. They don't need to schedule that much bigger of an opponent. The only problem with those I proposed is maybe that long drive.
To South Gallia, wanting to drop. Come on, this is a good game for you. Why just throw in the towel? I know SV has kept Chesapeake on their schedule for years without a whole lot of success. It even cost them a couple of unbeaten seasons. It is a good goal for them to work toward though, and finally last year they were able to pull off the win.

Big gates for both schools. With some being neighbors and family that go to both schools. SV goes to the playoffs so if that is a goal at SG they should put in the work to beat SV. The short travel for both teams and fans is a bonus for fans who can save money on travel. To end it just because a new coach comes in is not right. Kind of like Rich Rod going to UM and not embracing the traditions. If SG wants to do away with this game how will they make up the loss in money? Not like schools will be getting more money from the State or other funding in the future.

I can understand not wanting to play this game on one hand but to give up a "cash Cow" game in these times is hard to understand.

Re: South Gallia VS Symmes Valley Possibly coming to an end?
I also heard about this. Why in the world would this happen? South Gallia's athletic budget runs on fumes. Taking this home game away, which is the biggest money maker of the season, does not make sense whatsoever. More than likey it will be replaced with another small school that will not have a traveling fan base.
Entrance into the SOC will be nearly if not completely impossible in the future. Symmes Valley will probably no longer vote for SG after this act of ignorance. Keep traveling those long distances in the TVC and take your butt kickings as you will receive plenty of them!
As for the earlier post of why there is an ability gap between the schools...the answer is simple; the mentality at South Gallia in every sport is to "play" the game but not work at it.
South Gallia should create their own conference with all the area Christian schools and stop wasting all the public schools' time.

Could possibly be the dumbest post I have ever read.superman06 wrote:I also heard about this. Why in the world would this happen? South Gallia's athletic budget runs on fumes. I think this is a good move and tht SG should tell the SOC to shove it anyway. I think this is a message to the SOC that they do not need them anymore. The Hocking is more winnable for them as they were in the middle of the pack last year. The extra playoff game that SG will get to by dropping this game will make up for the loss they will have for the gate of this game. The problem is that many people freak out about change and a loss of 'tradition'. I say get over it and just find another school to use as a whipping post on your schedule.

Re: South Gallia VS Symmes Valley Possibly coming to an end?
I highly doubt that Symmes Valley was one of the SOC schools that voted against South Gallia getting into the league, but I get what you are trying to say. The TVC accepted South Gallia when they got the snub by the SOC. So let's screw the SOC. I do agree that the SOC is a much better geographic fit for South Gallia than the TVC. However, I think that dropping your closest rival and biggest gate for a possible playoff spot is a bit silly and premature. South Gallia has a long way to go in the TVC before they are beating the likes of Wahama and Trimble. Not to mention Belpre once they get things turned around. In the words of the former Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Mora "Playoffs!" "You kidding me" "Playoffs!" That just goes back to the southeastern Ohio mentality though. The old "We're just happy to be here" instead of actually making it to the playoffs and competing. If South Gallia can't beat or at least stay competitive with Symmes Valley then they don't deserve to be in the playoffs anyway. Now that South Gallia is in the 9 team TVC Hocking they have two non-league games. They should be filled with Symmes Valley and River Valley IMHO.BlizzardMan wrote:I think this is a good move and tht SG should tell the SOC to shove it anyway.
