Gallia should win this one, I look for the JV squads to get some playing time in this one.

If this was a fight the IBF, WBC, WBO would fail to even sanction this one. Gallia rolls

GAHS hits road again Friday at Marietta

For the third time in four weeks Gallipolis Gallia Academy High School’s Blue Devils will hit the road, this time at Marietta in another non-league football contest starting at 7:30 p.m., in Don Drumm Stadium.

It will be the 26th meeting between the Ohio River schools. GAHS holds a 21-4 advantage over the Tigers since the schools starting playing each other in 1985 when MHS joined the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League. Marietta withdrew from the league in 2010.

Both schools enter Friday’s contest with 1-2 season records. GAHS beat Athens 52-34 in its season opener, but the Blue Devils have lost two in a row since, 21-7 to Licking Heights and 14-13 to Ironton.

Marietta opened its 2012 season with a 41-35 win over Morgan, then dropped consecutive battles to Warren Local, 35-7 and Parkersburg, 26-21.

According to a Marietta Times pre-season report on Aug. 23, Marietta has talent galore on this years roster, namely Chance Wright, Quentin Cooled, Eddie Kimbrough, Tanner Leach, Jonnie Hedrick, Austin Jones, Conner Beavers, Kyle Bronski, Ethan Strauss, John Henry Zack LaBarre, Spencer Frum and Garrett Davis.

Marietta is being lead by first-year coach Adam Eichorn this year. The Tigers will play a basic 4-4 defense.

Anthony Kimbough, a 6-1 junior who tips the scales at 175, will quarterback this years Tiger team. He plays cornerback on defense and is the team’s punter this fall.

Last year, Marietta suffered a 31-8 loss to Gallipolis at Gallipolis, and finished the season with an 2-8 record.

In the game at Gallipolis last year, the Tigers rushed 44 net yards and passed for 71, giving MHS 115 total yards in 42 plays from scrimmage. GAHS rushed for 165 net yards and passed for 132, giving the Blue Devils 298 yards in 63 plays from scrimmage. Gallipolis out first downed MHS 15-6 in 2012.

In other regional games Friday involving GAHS opponents, Athens is at Jackson in the evening’s top game, Harvest Prep at Licking Heights, Ashland at Ironton, South Point at Vinton County,Thurgood Marshall at Chillicothe, Portsmouth at Minford, Meadowbrook at Warren Local, and Logan at Jonathan Alder.

While talking to Marietta's athletic secretary earlier this week, found out that Marietta has renovated Don Drumm Stadium and the renovation includes an elevator to the stadium pressbox. She said media people can stiil drive around the stadium and park in the rear like they usually do.

Went to watch Marietta last week and left saying man this team has been on the decline since 02 when are they going to hit rock bottom and start coming back up. Got beat deep numerous times last week Parkersburg's qb missed a couple wide open throws. The secondary gives up a lot of height, easy to throw deep on just throw it up and let the receivers go up and get it. Lack size and depth not sure where the marietta times got their info. Kimbrough the qb for marietta comes to the sideline before every play and talks to the coach or oc but has the plays on the wrist. Qb on the read option almost never hands off and wont pitch had running backs get outside but just wont make the read. Play calling is an adventure can get very repetitive going to be a nightmare against good teams. Gallia, New Philly, Dover, Zville will have their way with the Tigers. On the bright side for the Tigers Quinton Coefield spelling? is a nice little player, not very big but when he gets into space can cause problems. I would say Gallia wins this game by 5 td's or more.

I have said this before--Marietta seems to have good teams 7 thur 9 and then when they hit the varsity some thing happens. They just don' t seem to play well with other classes.

kick me in the teeth i am going to retract the .500 statement i think the blue devils can win 7 games now the seoal is just horrible and unless we lose to chillicothe and portsmouth i think 7-3 is possible still think jackson would be a pretty big upset.
we always seem to lose to one of those teams we shouldn't hope not this year.good thing were in div 3 where there arent' many teams with this schedule playoff points would be hard to come by.

go blue
gallia academy 34 marietta 6

glad we got athens in wek one those numbers they are putting up are crazy

Tigers will show up. Don't be surprised if this is much closer than the folks in Gallia think.

I am picking the Tigers by a TD

Go Tigers!
