Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
I think NW gets their first win in league play, but the defense will have to score to make it happen!

Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
The only way Northwest wins this one is if they get a safety and win 2-0. This offense is embarassing and they had a total of minus 25 yds against a very unimpressive minford team last week. Minford will not win a conference game and NW could not get a first down against them. Not worth the drive to willow woods IMO.

Well, if MD's crystal ball is on target, then the small bright spot (the defense) in this 1-3 Mohawk season will be snuffed out and the remainder of this season is OVER!! I'll say this though, if Minford's offense was "that bad" instead of the NW defense being "that good" I feel bad for the Falcons. The Mohawks are used to losing, Minford has put together a pretty good program over the past few years and if the talent pool has dried up it will be a bitter pill to swallow for the folks out in Mule Town!ManitouDan wrote:SV by at least 3 scores , prob more . Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
You know, this Symmes Valley game has actually taken on a bit of intrigue, or at the very least it will give us a look at just how bad the Mohawk offense is and whether or not the NW defense is that good (against the Falcons last week) or was the Minford offense that bad? At any rate this is the Mohawks first SOC-I game as the newest member of the conference. Gut check time for the boys from McDermott! Butt whoopin in Willow Wood could very well be the straw that broke the camel's back for the 2014 season!

I've seen you rip on the offense a couple of times. What are your suggestions? What offense would you run? AND BE SPECIFIC! You mentioned that Minford was weak and before that it was that Northwest had a superior skill set to Huntington Ross. Where do you find the time to scout all these teams to be able to make your assessments in order slander/mock/insult Northwest for under achieving?Jorge Sandusky wrote:The only way Northwest wins this one is if they get a safety and win 2-0. By the way, with a name like Sandusky, should you be watching any games at all? Either support the school and for once the coaches or quit paying attention to them at all. My suggestion - don't go to the game.

Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
I have not seen the Mohawks play, but if I had to guess from what I've seen in the paper, and on SEOPS here is what I think is in the works. I think the NW coaching staff evaluated talent early on and decided that it would be best to focus on creating a solid defense and go with the simple version of offense that they are currently running. Keep in mind, this season is a building block for the future. It is evident that the talent pool for the offensive side of the football is very shallow. No running threat no passing threat, thus the poor performances against these teams that have a bit of talent. Defense has been pretty good, less the Huntington-Ross game. Now I am as guilty as anyone for bad mouthing this program over the years, but I truly believe that it is about to turn the corner and here are a few reasons why I think it will happen: 1) The same coaching staff has been in place now for several years and they know and understand their kids. 2) The move to the SOC-I gives this program a chance to breath a little and gain some confidence (they are not getting stomped into the ground with this schedule each week). 3) The focus on a solid defense and just getting what they can out of the offense, sounds crazy but as we all know defense wins championships! and 4) There is some talent at the skilled positions although be it young, that are going to bring some excitement in the next couple of years to the offensive side of the football. JMHO. I think everyone sees the writing on the wall and will do everything in their power to turn this program into a winner. Failure is not an option! GO MOHAWKS!!

Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
The move to the SOC I with the smaller schools and a scaled back non-conference schedule will allow NW to compete to win a few and lose a few close ones. The program will see an increase in participation due to being competitive within the SOC I. I would attribute little to coaching as things turn around but to the fact your Jimmy's and Joe's are going to start to look a lot better relative to the lil Jimmy's and Joe's.
It is a great move for Northwest and the community.

Game Day! Conference opener for both schools. Much to be learned this evening about the Mohawk defense, it will be on their shoulders to give NW a chance to win. The offense will have to play their best game of the season. Above all else, would like to see these kids play with some "heart" no matter the outcome, just play with heart!!

Score comparisons really mean nothing, but Symmes beat a bad Huntington team 26-16, while Huntington thrashed Northwest 32-0.
I'll take Symmes big.

If SV does in fact win big, the remainder of the NW schedule will be "L" s waiting their turn to take their place in the column. Let's hope for at the very least, a strong showing from the defense!danicalifornia wrote:Score comparisons really mean nothing, but Symmes beat a bad Huntington team 26-16, while Huntington thrashed Northwest 32-0.

Ok first of all, it doesn't take a genius to watch Minford and see that they are just average. They will not win a game in the SOC this year and Huntington Ross is not very good either. For the offense that NW should run, maybe they should go back and ask the JR. High coach from 2012 and 2013 as they were highly successful and averaged more than 30 pts a game. I know Jr. high football isn't high school, but the offense that NW is currently running only works if you have a stud RB's and a great OL and they are young and I am just frustrated watching the program continually lose when they could easily be 3-1 right now.

Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
If the Vikings win tonight they will be above .500 along with Oak Hill in the SOC-I. The remainder of the conference is at or below the .500 mark. Not a strong conference to say the least. Look for the Oaks to go undefeated in conference play and most likely will have the only chance out of the six teams to be playing in week #11.
Re: WEEK 5: Northwest (1-3) @ Symmes Valley (2-2)
Too bad Northwest ruined Symmes Valley's homecoming winning 24-21 in OT! Congrats to the Mohawks on their 1st SOC I game! Maybe they could be an SOC I conference title contender along with East and Oak Hill.
Re: WEEK 5: Northwest 24 @ Symmes Valley 21
This is great to see for NW...compete in the SOC 1 and get some support and morale for the program. I bet that was a great bus ride home. Congrats Mowhawks.
