Most important position in high school sports
We had a great email come into the website at SVCsportszone.com asking what is the most important position in high school sports? Is it the QB? PG in basketball? Pitcher in baseball/softball? Setter in volleyball? Goalie in soccer? Or some other position?
Great debate - what are some thoughts?

Pitcher in softball... seen A LOT of very talented softball teams without a good pitcher become mediocre and seen a lot of very average teams be very good because they have a good pitcher... not downplaying the importance of any other position in any sport, but softball is all about what you have in the circle!

The most important position in high sports is the Athletic Director. You need to have a great AD to have success.

1. QB
2. Pitcher in softball
3. Pitcher in baseball
4. Point guard
5. Setter in volleyball
Several positions in soccer above goalie I'd think

Re: Most important position in high school sports
No brainer---it's a 3 way tie between baseball and softball pitchers and the center in football.
There is no defense for the walk or hit batsman. I've seen as many as 10 in a row---the rest of the team is mentally picking daisies.
No play works in football unless the ball is delivered to the QB or another back.
Coaching can be way overrated---there isn't a TVC coach who hasn't went .500 or under--no matter what other success they may have had.
So, either they get dumb ever so often or it's the Billy's and Bob's.

Athletic director... It all starts from who he or she hires as coaches

Re: Most important position in high school sports
Is there really an AD out there who gets who they want for coaches? My experience is the Board, Super, and Principal have a lot more sway. You probably are right if we are talking tennis or cross country---but football......
Re: Most important position in high school sports
I agree Burg Grad, the AD is the most important position as long as he has the backing of the school board and is not just a hand puppet.

AD for sure. Hardest working person in high school sports. From buses, to officials, paperwork, to physicals. I sure respect ours. He is also our B-ball coach. Thanks to Coach Combs and his partner Coach Downs for all you do for the entire Viking Nation.
