I can see them improving also. They had some good games in the SOC and have some talent returning.

Hopefully they put in some off season work this year to avoid some of the injuries. They had 6-8 players out at one time last year.

Is the schedule the same?
How did the JV team do last season?
Any players move in or move out?

Year in and year out Waverly is one of the more talented teams in the league. They always have some speed, solid skill kids, and the size to run whatever scheme they prefer. Yet every year they are very soft. I am not sure if it is a weight room issue or what, but they lack the physicality to win with their schedule. JMHO.

Exactly. They started the season with several injuries after their week 1 game vs. Jackson and never recovered.

Waverly needs an off season program and they will be able to dominate teams with their talent.

Waverly's talent has been mediocre at best over the last few years. As far as speed, not much at all. Certainly not compared to Valley, Burg and Minford. The weight program is important and will improve now that we are getting an in school program started. That will help.

I look for Waverly to be better this coming season. We should have a couple of nice running backs and a line with size and experience. The sophomore class should be ready to make a significant impact this coming season. More football players in that class than any class in a while.

With improvements to football facility and field house things are looking up. Hopefully we can get new turf soon also.

I can't believe that Waverly is dropping Jackson! 20 min apart and year in and year out they will have better athletes than Jackson. Absolutely no reason why the administration should have allowed the new coach to do this. Get the kids in the weight room and go compete! What a joke, what patsy are they picking up in the week 2 spot?

The weight room issue was not a matter of who ran the program but the fact that many three sport athletes couldn't find the time to get in the weight room. A new emphasis has been put on lifting and we just bought a lot of new top-notch equipment. Athletes are now going to have an in-school lifting program that should help us compete at a higher level in all sports. The in-school lifting program was something that we once had but was done away with. Now it's back thank goodness. I think the physicality should improve over the next few years.

My nephew goes there and told me that the lifting program is a real improvement. I agree that the sophmore class is going to make some noise - good group of athletes.

I am hearing rumors that Waverly wants to leave the SOC and join the SVC. Supposedly, they want to add wrestling and girls soccer and since the SOC does not have wrestling, they are looking at other conferences.

IMO the soc Is the most competitive conference around. IMO jackson would be a good fit travel and competition wise

I wish ironton still had wrestling as well. it in my opinion, along with a good weight program the single best things you can do to help your football talents, n balance is wrestling, lifting.

I agree with Crabs brother. They have some of the most talented kids at Waverly. When I was young they were always tough. They still have the talent speed and size. Crab said it best. Soft. Like to see that change. And I disagree that it may unfortunately be what they are doing in the weight room as much as when.
