A winning record:Does it really say you were a good team?

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Beat all teams with losing records and then losing to all of the team you play, with a winning record, does not make you a good team.

No, it simply means you beat everyone that you should have beaten.

What's your point? In the end, there is only one champion. You're either good enough to do it or not. A good team is being able to compete and win most of your games.

A winning record means the school gets to make way more money than the losing teams. So they can put in better fields, draw more fans, make more money.

Nope, a winning record just means you are better than the teams you beat.

It says you beat the teams on your schedule.

How good of a team you are depends on so much more.

Having a winning record gets you in the playoffs (most times)
Playing quality teams helps you get playoff wins
Have a solid combination of players, coaches, and a little luck gets you to weeks 14 and 15.

having a winning record means that compared to your competition you were a good team.

Huber heights wayne fans can say that coldwater is not a good team!!

Now, is coldwater a good team? Well, compared to their competition they are.

No! It does not make you a good team if you have a weak schedule. What if you play one of the toughest schedules in the state and you win 4, 5 or maybe 6 games, does that make you a bad team.

Agreed...Too many other variables other than a team's record.

by the analogy, wheelersburg must suck. By all means, they lost by a running clock to another d5 team.

No, burg didnt suck and in fact was pretty good down here. If you are better than the teams you play you are good.
If the teams you play beat you then you arent good.
Its simple as that

No. Quality of the teams you play matters. For example:

Ironton(6-4): Winning record, but only beat OVC teams = Bad team

Youngs.Ursuline(5-5): Only 5 wins (reg season), but played top level competition.Regional champion. = Good team

iront is a bad team compared to who?

compare apples to apples.
if you beat other apples you are good

if you compare that apple that wins to an orange you arent going to find out very much except people can make predictions

In high school football you can't really say well this team despite having a winning record is a bad team or this team with a losing record is a good team. There is to many variables to look at to tell.

to me, the only way you can definitively tell whether a team is good or not is how do they do when they play the teams around them
did ironton beat the teams that are around them?
did they do good in their league

well, if you run the table in your league and beat the teams around you that are similar in size you are good.

if people wanna toot the "well, they arent good cause they couldnt beat the burg thing," then teams like coldwater can sit back and say you know what.... burg sucks.. we running clocked them cause they suck!
well, burg could beat the teams in their league and the teams around them so they are good no matter what coldwater says
