Madonna has had the better sports program in Weirton for the past several years and some excellent athletes from Weir High have transferred to Madonna. Also, the property taxes in Allegany County (PA) are so high that people are moving into the northern counties of WV to avoid them, bringing students that would normally be in Pittsburg area schools. From Weirton to Pittsburgh is less then thirty minutes.
