Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
Key Losses-
Chance Cox, 6-2 160 WR/DB
Dean Jordan, 5-11 200 RB/LB
Casey Phillips, 6-0 170 DB/WR
Nathan Cocks, 5-9 165 LB
Caleb Lewellen, 6-1 180 DB/QB
Joe Foltz, 6-3 175 DB
Brandon Arnett, 6-0 180 DB
Kevin Fisher, 6-7 190 TE
Keith Martin, 6-1 260 OL
DJ Madison, 6-4 200 TE
Key Returners:
Lane Little, 5-9 165 QB, two year starter, needs to stay healthy! Strong arm, smart, athletic (Senior)
Isaiah Smith, 6-4 200 WR/DB; getting some solid looks from D-1 schools, runs a 4.5 40, solid athlete (Senior)
Colton Stillwell, 5-9 215 LB/RB; aggressive, can move in space and tackles well (Senior)
Jensen Wallace, 6-0 165 WR; solid hands, needs to increase speed and solid routes (Junior)
Dominic Micochero, 5-9 190 LB, moves well, sees the play, finds the football. Good defender (Senior)
Bryce McBride, 5-11 200 RB; 3 year letter winner but coming back from a huge injury. Ive been told he will be a stronger than ever runner. If true, thats scary. (Senior)
Kory Henthorne, 6-6 270 OL/DE; aggressive player, could be an All District kid if he plays up to his potential. (Junior)
Josh Rardain, 6-1 215 OL; another solid line player with experience for Logan up front. (Senior)
Tommy Hayden, 6-3 220 OL; experienced player, moves well. (Senior)
Eddie Lanning, 6-3 290 OL/DL; transfer from last year, came in and impressed alot of people with his ability. This kid is a beast in the making. Could have a breakout season (Senior)
Brandon Skinner,6-0 290 OL/DL (Senior); Could be a force this season with his size and quickness. Will be a huge asset to a potentially dangerous line.
Others:
Brady Walsh, 5-11 180 LB (Soph)
Chris Harper, 6-3 215 OL (Soph)
Isaac Baron , 5-11 175 DB (Soph)
Logan will be better than what I think alot of people assumed. The line will be big and experienced which will allow their experienced skilled players to get into space. Little and Smith will be a solid combination this season and if McBride comes back and can stay healthy, the running game will be a handful. Logan will pose a problem for teams if they dont become one dimensional and have the ability to work both run and pass effectively. They have the talent to be very good on offense.
The Chiefs will need to fill some holes on the defense but appear to have the athletes to do so. Lanning will be a handful for any team and Henthorne poses huge matchup problems. Logan will be able to pressure the QB and stop the run with athletic and quick LBs.

Re: Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
McBride is a load for any opposing defense, especially if you are returning some experience and talent on your O-Line. If that is the case I would anticipate your over/under at 7-8.
DeSales will be a tough match-up, I think they are a favorite to get the top seed in the Region. They had a "transfer" into their offensive back-field as I understand that adds to their talent there now, and will make the triple option they run very effective. A lot of momentum one way or the other will come out of Week 1 (which is another topic I understand), but I look for a very physical Chieftain team to be very competitive.
Jackson-Logan game will be a slugfest and may decide the SEOAL again.
Do not know what TV returns, but if memory serves that should of been a game you won last year. I think this year with what you return that could very well be a "W".
NY will be a good game but I think at end of the day that game will go your way.
I think Logan has a shot at the play-offs. A lot of points possible with the schedule they have. Some opposing teams that are going to win some games and help out the secondary points as the season progresses.
8-2 is not out of question, DeSales I think is one of the losses but everyone else on schedule is even money or better for the Chiefs I think.

Re: Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
Should be Burke's best team since he arrived. The one big problem is can they stay healthy at key positions ? Also the defense has to quit giving up so many big plays, If they do I can see 8-2 or 7-3 with a probable playoff spot.
Re: Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
There should be some online news re: the Chiefs coming about soon as well. When its finalized Ill post it.

I've been hearing good positive things about this years Chiefs. I agree, if they stay healthy I see 8-2 maybe better. I think we might see a tighter defense this year as well. Hope things hold out ok in the injury department all year long.

Also, Logan needs to improve their kicking game.. If they stay healthy, they will indeed have a good year...

Re: Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
Good run down, LoganGrad.
And yes, I still owe you a phone call.
Lots to be excited about for next season, but plenty of question marks as well. This team probably won't have the dynamism on the outside like last season with Cox gone, but Isiah Smith is a legit threat and plenty of kids step in to compete on the outside. McBride and Little are stalwarts in the backfield, and I really like the what Stilwell brings.
Also agree that the line play has potential to be dominant.
Defense will be the question mark. Once a trademark of Chieftain football back to the Perry days, the defense hasn't been anywhere near dominant for over 5 years. It's time to turn that corner. I like Micochero, Karns, and McBride in the linebacking corps and also think Walsh could make a big impact there. Secondary needs to step up to replace some guys who really played well there last season (Cox, Phillips, Lewellen, Foltz, Arnett).
I'm excited to see what some of the sophomores can bring to the table - its a solid group with a few kids who I think could play their way into meaningful contributions. The schedule is tough - road trips to Athens, Nelsonville-York, Shadyside, and DeSales will really test this team IMO.
Teays Valley is a hurdle Logan finally needs to jump over if this team wants to excel.

Definitely need to get a soccer player (or former player) on to the team to handle the kicking duties. Been a while since we had a guy we could trust. Tired of chasing points down in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

TV is a team Logan needs to beat, they are close in size and personal. helpfully this game can turn into a little rivalry that might help Logan get its foot in the door with the MSL. TV is the furtherest team at about 55-60 mins and from what i hear from the ppl i work with is TV fans dont like the travel time to Logan. so if it can develop into something...... we might find a new home.Teays Valley is a hurdle Logan finally needs to jump over if this team wants to excel.

Re: Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
Logan would be a great fit in the MSL Buckeye Division. Madison Plains is leaving the Ohio division leaving them with 7 schools. Move Amanda to the Cardinal to have 7 teams and Logan into the Buckeye to keep it at 8. So you have 8-7-7 in the divisions. Teays Valley has a 55 min travel time to Fairfield Union and its only 45 mins to Logan per any map service. Its 40 mins to Liberty Union and an average of 30 mins anywhere else they go. I am certain Logan accommodates their travel budget.

Yes and Nelsonville-York is D6. So two of the top 4 toughest games on Logan's schedule according to this thread are D6 and D7 teams. You're Tiger Bait wrote:ISN'T SHADYSIDE LIKE D7.

I think that's more of an indictment of Teays Valley and Cambridge - not to mention a compliment to two great programs - but sure, have a laugh.Ground Buck wrote:Yes and Nelsonville-York is D6. Also - Teays Valley was a D2 playoff team last year.
And no doubt the two TOUGHEST games are DeSales and Jackson.
Re: Way to early look at the 2015 Logan Chieftains
Lets have a little perspective shall we?? Shadyside and NY are playoff teams year in and year out. Logan is not St Ignatius going over to play Shadyside, so laugh it up. NY is a rivalry game, period. But Coach Boston always has talent, they live for football down there. Both schools know each other very well, kids know each other, communities are 10 mins apart. Its a test every year. Let's rank the schedule; imo of course and no I am not trying to disrespect any teams.Ground Buck wrote:Yes and Nelsonville-York is D6. 1. Jackson - this will be the "War to settle the Score!" No need to explain. This is "THE" game for 2015
2. DeSales- Logan and DeSales alays seem to gravitate back to each other after brief layoffs. The Stallions are loaded after a playoff run in 2014
3. Shadyside- 11-1 last season, a 3 hour bus ride, week before Jackson, tough test for the Purple and WHite
4. Teays Valley- 8-2 last season, playoff team, Logan had the game won over there but lost late. Revenge? Maybe; but like Locos said this is a measuring stick game at home opener in Logan. Big crowd for sure
5. Athens- The long time rival is back on Logan's schedule, with lots of holes to fill after falling in the Ship. Let the talk begin; Logan's 30-0 teams vs Athens' 30-0 teams! Who wins!!!?? Logan wants to beat its former SEOAL and arch rival.
6. NY- The Buckeyes will be looking for payback after being crushed by Logan last season. Back at Buchtel, Logan will need to play very well to win it.
7. Cambridge- 4-6 a year ago, not much info on what they bring, my apologies. Coming to the Reservation will be too much.
8. Meigs- Logan big last year, Logan big this year. Another home game for Logan, will be too much.
9. Gallia- Road trips to Gallia late season anything COULD happen, but it wont.
10. Warren- Week 10 at Logan, senior night; get ready for hoops.

Hey I'm not laughing at anything. The Big Grin is for being proud that the Bucks are listed as one of the toughest games on the schedule.

Correct if I am wrong, the tomkittens (as my buddy moon says) are D-7 and they have whipped those buckeye the last few years!Ground Buck wrote:Yes and Nelsonville-York is D6. Yea, and that must be why Logan chose to play Shadyside instead of the tomkittens, since the kitties have whipped Shadyside the past few years too.LHS 72 wrote:Correct if I am wrong, the tomkittens (as my buddy moon says) are D-7 and they have whipped those buckeye the last few years!Ground Buck wrote:Yes and Nelsonville-York is D6.
