I guess I’m not following. Points are calculated the same regardless of region. 3 teams with one loss are ahead of them. Are they not slotted based upon 1st and second level points like everyone else?

I think they are upset because their region switched and they would make the playoffs in their old region
Re: Region Change Could End Gibsonburg's Dream Season, Time To Look At Ranking Changes
The article is advocating for doing away with regions and allowing the top 32 teams in each division statewide into the playoffs. The obvious counter argument to that would be long distances to travel. Also, there might be even more blowouts if teams were matched up 1 vs 32, etc.

Re: Region Change Could End Gibsonburg's Dream Season, Time To Look At Ranking Changes
I looked at their records on Joe Eitel back to 2000.
2018 9-1 #2 in region 22
2017 9-1 #5
2016 8-2 #7
2015 10-0 #4
Each of those years in region 22, they lost first round of playoffs
2014-2002 Did not qualify for playoffs with some years going 0-10
2000 & 2001—qualified for playoffs—lost in first & second round respectively.
2019 opponents are combined 29-59 with three of the team being 0-9. Only two teams were above .500 at 6-3 and 5-4.
Sounds like that after a long stretch of lean years, they softened their schedule. Now after 5 years in a row with at least 8 wins, it is time to schedule a couple harder opponents again especially if they are going to be in a tougher region.

Yup every div in the state has East , Southeast and Central in the same region except D6. They just didn’t want Mogadore in the same region with MAC schools. It mad no sense.Raider6309 wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 8:21 pmOhsaa was drunk when they made D6 this year. That’s how the old Region 23 in the previous six-division format was. Lawrence to Columbiana Counties. Sometimes it went from the Bucyrus area all the way down to the Ohio River. This regional alignment you decry has precedence to it.EasternDspy wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:40 pmExplain why Northeast teams are with Washington County teams makes no sense.formerfcfan wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:37 pmPlease explain how it would have made sense for Mogadore and the MAC schools to be in the same region.EasternDspy wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:17 pm

What doesn’t have precedence and makes absolutely no sense is the insinuation that Mogadore, a school due east of Akron, should be in the same region as the MAC schools who are within a 10-minute drive of the Indiana state line.

Re: Region Change Could End Gibsonburg's Dream Season, Time To Look At Ranking Changes
I don’t agree with the conclusion here. They have two teams on their schedule (Mohawk and Calvert) who both are two of the stronger D7 programs statewide of recent memory, and both teams had mediocre seasons. Didn’t yield the points anticipated. One of the 0-9 teams on their record is a very nearby school they play for gate purposes. One of the other 0-9’s went 6-4 last year and was a replacement game for Sandusky SMCC who bailed on 11-man incredibly late over this summer. The third 0-9 is a team they’re stuck playing as a part of their league. Sure they should consider scheduling harder opponents but at the same time I don’t agree with the idea they decided to soften it up.Proud_Pirate63 wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 9:10 pm I looked at their records on Joe Eitel back to 2000.

I think we should be asking Gibsonburg why their schedule sucks. This seems like a Gibsonburg problem, not an ohsaa problem. Only 2 schools on their schedule have a winning record, 6-3 and 5-4. Stinks for the kids, but I dont think the system is the problem.

Re: Region Change Could End Gibsonburg's Dream Season, Time To Look At Ranking Changes
While Calvert and Mohawk may be having "down years", they are both D7. Calvert is the better of the two making playoffs 8 of last 10 years while Mohawk only 3 of last 10 years. Woodmore is the nearby school for gate purposes but Gibsonburg only played them 3 times in the last 10 years. In regards to Danbury, you can't control your league opponents quality. Lastly with Antwerp, a late addition to fill an open date is understandable especially given they were 6-4 in 2018. But they were 1-9 and 2-8 the previous two seasons. Makes me wonder, does leaving the date open actually help you more by lowering your Divisor or do you fill it with a D7 team that had a three year record of 9-21. I guess there are pros/cons to both. Maybe it is hard for them to schedule quality teams as they are 4 hours north of me. I'm not completely familiar with the Sandusky area. So maybe they didn't intentionally "soften up" their schedule, but at least we agree they need to look for better non-conference opponents. Who knows, they may go back to Region 22 next year. Wheelersburg was in Region 20 last season only to be placed back in Region 19 again this season.formerfcfan wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 11:10 pmI don’t agree with the conclusion here. Top 32. Pick spots on bracket by harbins seeding. 1st round Home game is better seed. Coaches or AD could pick a home game, winnable game, or close travel. No reseeding. #32 gets what's left.

Just at a quick glance at DV #3 Ironton would face #30 Conneaut (region 17 #8 ) by week 9 points. 5 Hours and 6 minutes 325 miles by maps from each high school.
Re: Region Change Could End Gibsonburg's Dream Season, Time To Look At Ranking Changes
It has been this way for eternity in Ohio. There are several teams every year that would or would not have made the playoffs had they been in a different region, so no, one random example this year doesn't mean there's a need to overhaul the entire system.radiodavel wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 7:10 pm The Top 32 ranked teams will not compete for the State title
The state is too big geographically and there are too many teams to throw everyone into the same pool.
224 schools make the playoffs, over 1/3 of all schools. It is a pretty good system with lots of opportunity for just about every situation (big schools, small schools, powerhouses, budding programs, urban, rural, public, private, etc.).
