We might have to pay linemen. No one wants to play the most important position in football anymore

Just my opinion but It's a lost art anyway with the new rules. No more engaging up high, crack backs, high/lows, blindsides etc. They've taken all the fun out of it for the "big uglies" . Same thing with hard hits and bone jarring tackles on defense, penalty, penalty, penalty. It's all about the spread , skill positions and offense today while the lineman on both sides can't do half of what used to be acceptable. I think that's the main reason we see so many high scoring blowouts at the high school level nowadays. Finesse, arm tackling, grabbing , flailing and backpedaling then using speed to catch up and jump on a back and hold on til help arrives are the norm in today's game . It's more like flag football for a lot of teams.Raider6309 wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2019 7:52 am We might have to pay linemen. No one wants to play the most important position in football anymore

What an odd statement, given that all of those are safety concerns. As I watched a boy being air lifted out of a game last year because of a blindside block, makes me realize some simply don't understand why certain rules are put in place.FANOSPORTS wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2019 11:17 amJust my opinion but It's a lost art anyway with the new rules. No one ever wants to see a player get severely injured. Safety concerns yes. Understand yes. Just replying to Raiders statement about the dilemma's facing linemen in today's game of tackle football at any level and why a lot of kids might be forgoing football at a young age if they're not a "skill" position player. All the new equipment (pads, helmets, braces, lightweight unis, cleats) today has improved safety immensely over the last 3 decades but how many new rules do we need on what seems like a yearly basis now. I've was blindsided a couple times back in the day and you feel like your shoulder blades are in your hind end and your feet are in your mouth but luckily I was Ok. Same thing with high/lows when you're twisted like a pretzel and go down like a bowling pin. I'm all for safety of the kids but injuries will always occur in this contact sport regardless of how many rules are in place.greygoose wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2019 6:54 pmWhat an odd statement, given that all of those are safety concerns. Most schools struggle to get linemen. That’s why you see so many blow outs, it has very to do with skill. I remember watching a week 12 game and Ridgewood was using WR’s on the line
Re: Paying students to play at the high school level
Seems like you're trying to justify certain plays because a person doesn't get hurt every time on it. I mean if it takes allowing those certain plays to get more lineman out they need to stay home. Air lifts, broken lower extremities because of a high low hit, there's certain hits that increase the likelihood of a serious injury. This topic is on paying high school students to play, which I find very strange.FANOSPORTS wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2019 8:15 pmNo one ever wants to see a player get severely injured. Safety concerns yes. Maybe they’re contemplating paying for their health insurance?
Re: Paying students to play at the high school level
I think the OP was more about high school athletes getting paid for use of their image/voice in ads or promo. It is coming to the college game, and depending on legislation and the courts, pay for images will trickle down to high schools doon after. I would not like to see it happen, but it is inevitable.
