Carrico lost in the sauce in Columbus?

Post by THEEE_GAME »

Eichenberg: 9 total tackles, 6 solo tackles, 2 sacks. 3 tackles for a loss. Great game. - Eichenbergs goin nowhere.

Chambers: 5 total.. 2 solos and a pass deflection. - Chambers is locked in also. Solid game.

And heres the issue. Look at stats. The other two linebackers Simon and Traynaum only played a few plays each cause Knowles only likes to use two LBs and his concentration is more on the plethora of playmakers in his secondary.

Basically to see any meaningful minutes hes gonna have to be a top 2 LB in the room and right now He is either 5th or 6th depending on where they have CJ Hicks.

Tough spot. Can be done. But uphill battle.

Heres my concern. Hes not even getting special teams reps.
And i keep n mind Terajda Mitchell is also ahead of carrico on depth chart and Mitchell didnt get in either.

So knowles played basically a 4 LB rotation

Thats 4 ahead of Reid.
Mitchell is ahead also.
That makes 5 ahead of Reid in rotation.
And if Hicks passes him he would have either 5 or 6 LBs ahead of him on depth chart on a defense that only uses 2 LBs in most of what Knowles does.

And also - soon another LB freshman class will be n that room.

Tough. But thats reality at ohio state. Any position room you are in you are gonna have to be among THE BEST in country at your position to play and thats just the bottom line.

Hoping he can figure in somehow and I know it's still somewhat early, but at a program like Ohio State or Alabama, you are really under pressure to make an impression and secure a spot increasingly early because of how elite the recruitng is.

It's probably also worth noting he was recruited by the now departed Al Washington and not new DC Jim Knowles. Curious how it eventually plays out.

How does it play out? Worse case, he never plays a down yet gets his degree for free from OSU. Not a bad deal.

Other option? He transfers, plays somewhere else, and still gets a degree for free.

Potentially, yes. No absolutes or guarantees.

I think it just goes to show how good you have to be to play in a Playoff contending program. Would love to see the kid get a shot but I think the reality is he will have to decide if he wants to play and get a free education or he wants to sit at Ohio State and get a free education! He may be the next Joe Burrow of the defense 🤷‍♂️

I've often wondered about the possibility of a position change. ( Tight End )

I've seen that mentioned before also. The TE room may be more open.

Worst case scenario he gets a $200,000 scholarship and the best seat in the house for dozens of big time games, including OSU/Mich, Big 10 Championship games and college playoffs.

I can’t find any shame there, but I’m also not looking for any. Best of luck to the kid.

He in a pickle & i ONLY WANT THE BEST FOR HIM.

I noticed Corey Kiner, of Cincinnati Roger Bacon, whom was highly recruited, & i could be wrong, but i do believe a power school in the SEC had him, but he was cincinnati’s leading rusher this past weekend in a tough loss to Arkansas.

Looks like he transferred or changed his mind, but he is playing & Showing!

He was a quick back, but in the final 4, IHS stopped him & Carrico shined & carried IHS TO the state finals. Yet Kiner got Mr FB honors.

I also see Carrico size & speed either being utilized as a WR or defensive specialist, which i know he prefers.

Hes a smart kid, but someone giving him a chance elsewhere & showcasing that talent would be AWESOME!

Id love to see him back on the river at U of Cincinnati.
Thats a program moving up & getting great recruits!!

Upon ReThinking my post, if my aging memory serves me well, CARRICO scored the go ahead & game winning TD in that designed pass to him & then he broke two tackles & galloped for about 20-yards after while running it for 6 & pointing back at the IHS fans as if to say :”i got you”.

Right after game during Interviews with Carrico he was praising Team effort on that play, & Being able to overall slow down Kiner. @ that moment, Kiner runs by Interviewer & Carrico & Kiner points @ Reid & says :” He’s the man”.
Then, Reid, returns the favor & gives back same compliment.

With several IHS players going to UofCincy, it’d be cool to see ALL OF THEM THERE & help continue to build UofC into a playoff contender & attract more 4/5 star recruits.

Until then, he is def getting Burrowed!

I'm thinking he still has four years of eligibility left ? Counting this year?

He still has time but like many has posted it's really tough at Ohio State and most D 1 schools , and also like posted he is in a position that a ton of other kids would love to be in ,I've heard he is a really smart kid so he probably knows his situation and what he wants

Correct. Kiner was at LSU and hit the portal.

These are all good posts and a good convo. I was somewhat reluctant to start this topic because often times, I notice if a post is factually represented, rather than just being full of generalized praise and empty platitudes, you tend to catch a good bit of flack.

Thank all of you for keeping if objective. We need more of this.

Excellent.

I can’t fathom the haters are smart enough to understand what this kid is doing. Big big stuff very few can match.

Education is way more important than sports. Would it be cool to play I guarantee it but he’s getting a free education from Ohio state. He still has a lot of time. He was redshirted last year and I think you get a extra year for covid. He will play Saturday when bucks are up huge in Arkansas state.

I’d like to see the % of southern Ohio people that put more importance into sports than education compared to other parts of Ohio and also the U.S.

I know this is a high school sports forum of southern ohio…but still.
