MVL WEEK 13!

Post by MVLfan »

Two MVL teams remain in the 2023 playoffs, West Muskingum and New Lexington.

West Muskingum will play Wheelersburg at Athens High School. Wheelersburg is typically the team that gets notoriety in D5R19 behind the big two of Prep and Ironton. Their record clearly is not representative of their skill. West with a statement win at Fairland last Friday. This should be a heck of a game.

New Lex will play Indian Valley at Coshocton High School. I’m sure NL not thrilled about that drive. Indian Valley boasts one of the top players in the state in Grady Kinsey, but has been banged up, so not sure if he plays or not. New Lex has put up 50 points in their first two playoff games. This game will likely come down to stops and who can get 1-2 more than the other as both have been explosive averaging over 40 a game.

WM vs Wheelersburg - 'burg the fav but I'll go WM 28-24 as coaching and defense prevail.
NL vs Indian Valley - Big running game for huge favorite IV will be hard to stop, but I'll pick my Panthers 38-36!

IV 42 NL 23 - The Braves big running game (always good to have in the playoffs) prevailed. The Panthers put a good fight but failing to convert twice inside the IV five was too much to overcome. NL 11-2 and one of their best seasons!

Wheelersburg 30 WM 14. The' burg was too much for WM who made too many mistakes. Still few (outside of WM) expected a 9-3 season after last year's 10-2 MVL championship season.

That’s a wrap on the 2024 MVL Football season.
New Lex falls to Indian Valley. Like gcfan said, the two redzone stops that NL had on a failed 4th down conversion by less than a yard then a false start on 4-1 that pushed NL back was the difference. 11-2 still a great year.
West M falls to Wheelersburg. Thought this game would be a little closer, but as previously mentioned, Wheelersburg was underseeded due to their schedule/record, but are the 3rd best team in this region behind Prep and Ironton. I do not think West M is far off though!! After starting the year 2-2, not many would have had the Tornadoes getting this far. 10-3 is a heck of a season after the losses they had last year.

On a side note, I think Board and Brownrigg are two of the very best coaches in our league and blossoming stars. Throw in West and Culver III and our leagues coaches can coach with anyone! I think the MVL is in good hands for years to come as all of these men will be there for quite a while!!

Now we’re onto the mat and the hardwood!

Man oh man, I don’t know about that. It’s a heck of a lot easier to keep up with 1 game a week, especially when Fantastic 50 and Joe Eitel websites make it easier to keep up with scores and project games. 2-3 games a week for 12 teams would be a challenge, but I never like to back down from a challenge.
Tri Valley will run through the big school division, much like they did in football. Maysville and New Lex will be the favorites in the small school division. NL brought everyone but their defensive specialist back. Maysville lost their guaranteed bucket in Bobb, but I ‘think’ they return everyone else.
