Logan HC Out
FROM LOGAN AD KEITH MYERS:
Logan High School is seeking a Head Football Coach. Logan High School is a Division II program located between Columbus and Athens, and a member of the OCC Buckeye Division.
The Head Football Coach will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the football program, including but not limited to planning, training, game management, and fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship and inclusivity. Proven experience as a high school football coach, with head coaching experience preferred.
Logan High School has some of the best facilities in Ohio and a full time Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Application deadline is December 13, 2024 or until filled.
"Coach Eddy will not be returning next football season. The athletic department and district has made the decision to change directions," Myers said.
"Mike has been a big part of our athletic program. He has been selfless, dedicated and true chieftain for his entire time while leading the Chieftain football program," he added
Logan will be doing a statewide search for a new football coach.
The search will start the search immediately . What are yalls Thoughts?

Re: Logan HC Out
He was the head coach my senior year and I can see why he was fired. Just not winning games. However he really was more than a coach. He was a father to me and I still talk to him on a regular basis. It was a rough schedule for the team this year but I truly don’t think he could’ve done much more. Unless he was an entirely different coach then what I saw

I know a guy. Look south. If you get to Athens you went too far. He got one team to the state finals for first time ever and a few years later got a different team to the state semifinal for first time in half a century. Dude is a proven winner and as a bonus he loves beating Athens. Has potential to bring players in. Give him whatever he wants. You won’t regret it.HunterBen68 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 10:03 am FROM LOGAN AD KEITH MYERS:

Re: Logan HC Out
Eddy was a mistake from the get go. But not only did they get the coach selection wrong, they joined a league where they are doomed for mediocrity at best and more probably complete failure.
Re: Logan HC Out
Logan could get the best coach in the state, and they wouldn't be able to win being in the league they are in. The program hasn't been able to get the talent out onto the field. The talent is there, and I don't really think no one really knows the reason for them not coming out. Seems like everyone you talk to will tell you something different. Logan being the smallest school in their division of the OCC hurts and I have heard and read the school system is worried about the lowering of the number of students. It wouldn't surprise me if this job won't be filled anytime soon.

Re: Logan HC Out
Logan would only be attractive to a coach IF they got out of their league. Until then, they will never be successful in any sport, regardless of how good their athletes are.

Re: Logan HC Out
…and regardless of how good the facilities are, how supportive the community is.
I’ve already seen comments and heard from others elsewhere likening this job to what you’re saying: that it’s a dead end in the OCC.
So, which door do you go through if you’re the purple? Hire someone with OCC experience, or roll the dice by hiring out of the MVL or TVC? The former knows what it takes to have a program be OCC competitive; the latter knows what it takes to reach the kids at, and recruit the hallways of, schools similar to Logan’s demographics (albeit at a smaller scale.)
Re: Logan HC Out
It seems obvious to all when it comes to the mistake in joining the league they are in. And from what I understand, it would be difficult to get out now. So the question is whether the administration knows this or if they see this as a good gig. If they do, then their expectations are wrong going in and that makes this an even more difficult job to fill.
Re: Logan HC Out
Logan Girls won the OCC championship plus the district in volleyball this fall plus several Conference awards for other fall sports.

I agree. Got to remember what brought Logan to where they’re at, though.dboy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 2:31 pm It seems obvious to all when it comes to the mistake in joining the league they are in. The league they wanted to be in, from the beginning, is the Mid-State League. They tried to get several times a decade ago. The MSL wouldn’t take Logan when Canal went to the OCC, as the MSL opted to instead have Liberty Union transition into the Buckeye Division (FWIW, I think this was a terrible move in retrospect and looking back they absolutely should have taken Logan.) They tried again from what I recall and it got nowhere.
They can’t go back to that well. The MSL is chalked. The conference is a dead man walking; no new members, it’s in its final years.
They tried the MVL, right? Didn’t get anywhere. The MVL as it is currently won’t be an option for potential reconfiguration/new members for another couple years.
They tried the Licking County League. I believe they got decently far in discussions (Logan was not seen as a high priority for the LCL) and it died because the addition of the Chieftains would’ve made any future reconfigurations/expansions for the LCL impossible.
IMO, we’re going to have an inevitable round of realignments across south central / southeastern Ohio in the next ~5 years. Logan’s opportunity to get out is going to depend on what happens in the FAC camp as well as the MVL camp. The FAC might expand, the MVL may see schools leave down the road and the MVL might find themselves reconfiguring. I don’t think Logan is necessarily an FAC candidate, but the first domino to fall will be any potential expansion of the FAC. Logan could very well be a candidate down the line for the MVL once the “ten years obligation” is up (2029?) for that league.

Re: Logan HC Out
Hiring Kris Kern and winning a five team district bracket isn’t comparable to the task at hand of winning at least one league game in football, though. Not saying this to diminish the fine season of the Lady Chieftains — it’s just apples to oranges to apply it to the football situation.

That is accurate. Many of the girls teams will be competitive in the OCC. it’s the boys teams, especially football as well as basketball where they will fail. Even other boys sports may be somewhat competitive , but in the end they are overmatched by bigger schools, all of whom have higher talent levels available .
I might be inclined to accept the OCC if Logan was placed in an all D-II division . There, they stand a better chance in competition. Not dominate, just better chances. That’s not going to happen, so they need to keep looking for another league and get out as soon as possible.
Re: Logan HC Out
I know it has been discussed a million times but this is where the TVC needs to be more proactive. They have to realize that other leagues are looking at their members (and maybe their members are looking elsewhere) and get Logan, Warren, Marietta and others into the league for everyone's sake. Probably will not happen but before it is too late, these schools and leagues should realize that they need each other IMO.
Re: Logan HC Out
Logan should be in the TVC. Might have a chance now that the old guard at Vinton County is gone. They were the flagship leader against Logan, Jackson and Warren getting in before and for whatever reason they carried a lot of weight. But to be honest they should have stayed independent instead of jumping in to the OCC just because they are the first league to take them.dboy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 4:48 pm I know it has been discussed a million times but this is where the TVC needs to be more proactive. If VC controlled the tvc like you say, don’t you think they would get rid of that late non conference week? It’s hilarious that people think VC makes the decisions. VC made calls to Logan for a game the last few years and were denied. Logan is just too big for the TVC as a whole. The seoal needs to re-form.Arnie wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 8:51 pmLogan should be in the TVC. Might have a chance now that the old guard at Vinton County is gone. It might be THE hardest job. Yes, facilities are spectacular, but that’s about it on the current positives as far as athletics go.Raider6309 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 11:50 pm One of the hardest jobs in Ohio. God speed to whoever becomes the coach
Playing in the OCC is going to be a major issue in bringing in a new coach that smaller schools with worse facilities don’t have.
Good luck to the Chieftans on finding something great
Re: Logan HC Out
Show me where I said “VC controls the TVC.” What I said is that they led the charge against Logan, Jackson and Warren getting in the TVC. That is a fact. Explain to me how VC making calls to Logan for a game makes that not true? I disagree that Logan is too big for the TVC. Especially if they were admitted along with the other two I mentioned as well as GA. VC was against that due to the fear of being forced into a third division with those teams along with Athens. You can talk about VC calling whatever schools for games all you want but it doesn’t make what I stated any less true.Dundas wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 11:39 pmIf VC controlled the tvc like you say, don’t you think they would get rid of that late non conference week? SG voted yes for all of those teams. The guy from Southern spoke to our people and convinced them that three divisions was the way forward and we had a choice to vote for it and actually have a say in what division we would be in. He was a pretty slick talker.Arnie wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 8:45 amShow me where I said “VC controls the TVC.” What I said is that they led the charge against Logan, Jackson and Warren getting in the TVC.
