2024 Ironton = Greatest SEO Team of All-Time?

Given all the results (15 wins, 13 running clocks, most points in D5 history, more than 700 points on the season) I would say yes.

2024 Ironton 38
2017 Wheelersburg 17

Doubt any other SEO team in the CalPreps era would contend.

No dog in the fight, but the 2014 Athens team quarterbacked by a certain player wearing #9 on Sundays would have to be in the conversation. I know they didn’t win it all, but that Athens team and this Ironton team would be a fun game to watch. Lots of big time talent on both teams. Granted, Athens played in the TVC but they also proved they weren’t a fluke by beating the teams they did in the playoffs, and by hanging 50+ on Steubenville in Death Valley in the rain. Burrow and Terry are equalizers. Both were the primary reason their teams got to where they were/are. It’d be an interesting matchup. Calpreps has it Ironton - 48, Athens - 31. I’d say the Ironton score is about right, but I don’t know if Athens would get held to 31, though.

I don’t think Ironton stops Athens very often if ever. Athens probably doesn’t get many stops either. I would probably take Athens, but it would have been a fun one!

Would probably, in all reality, look like their state title game vs. TCC. Neither team could stop the other and it would come down to who has the ball last.

I stand to be corrected but I thought that Coach Pendleton said, during the celebration at 1:00 in the morning at Tank, that...Ironton scored the fourth most points ever in a season in Ohio and the most ever by a DV team?

Was that correct?

I, PERSONALLY, think it was the best team I ever seen at Ironton. I've said that for a while now. I could see they were special. I know there's been better players at some positions here and there but all in all, the balance and discipline was there. They also genuinely seemed to like each other and congealed as a true team.

Week, after week, I heard the same things, well, this team or that team was weak and many never would give Ironton any credit. Sooner or later, I thought they would have to say, 'Hey, this '24 Ironton Fighting Tigers are really a great team

I don’t think you can compare eras at all. However you can show dominance and strength of scheduke and other things to compare.
The 1935 Ironton team was dominant for their era. Only Massillon could have been better in the state of Ohio that year. That team sported a member of the Pro football hall of fame


I also believe the 1981 Ironton team has an argument. They had 4 college D1 guys in the backfield. However, maybe the only knock on them would be they played in the SEOAL and even though Russell ky, Ashland Ky and Portsmouth were the toughest teams on their schedule as non conference games, the league wasn’t that strong.
the 2024 Ironton team played a very good scheduke throughout the season and really dominated it. Unlike the 1981 Itonton team, they got to showcase themselves in the playoffs.
