High school football recruiting
High school football recruiting
May have just died on the table. New ruling by NCAA that JUCO players eligibility does not count towards NCAA eligibility which means we could see 22-24 year old freshman playing college football. JUCO might be the equivalent of the G league. What a mess.

It is amazing that in just over four years, college sports and its NCAA governing body have suffered court defeats and agreed to settlements allowing for NIL, basically unlimited transfers, and pay for play in the disguise of revenue sharing. Now the NCAA's ability to regulate eligibility is under attack and the trend is that they will lose. The final demise of the fairy tale of the student athlete.
I agree it is a mess, but could it actually increase opportunities for high school athletes and their families if Jucos flourish and increase in numbers?
Of course the unspoken concern is when will all these changes in the name of economic freedom start to filter down to the public high school level.
They say nothing is impossible, yet I accomplish nothing every day.

They've created a mess. All NIL players should have to sign contracts so universities and colleges don't waste millions needlessly. These cats are jumping ship like rats on a sinking boat. They've gone from one extreme to another.
If ya want paid sign on the dotted line. 1 contract per player.

I can see college coaches telling high school kids to go to juco unless they are sure things
Re: High school football recruiting
Just going to say it: the only people who will want to play college football into their 30’s are the guys who are most likely to receive the “peaked in high school” award at their class reunion.
Contemplating all life choices and loyalties…

I agree. Nothing to lose.wobycat wrote: Sat Dec 21, 2024 12:40 pm I can see college coaches telling high school kids to go to juco unless they are sure things
Re: High school football recruiting
There have been tons of kids sit in JUCO trying to either get eligible or noticed. D1 colleges can now offer without fear of not having them for more than two years and probably get them cheaper off the NIL till

JUCO will now become “prep” football now. Trying to show that going to x JUCO will get you to Y college. Almost as a pipeline system imo.

High School football will be the new JUCO in a couple of years. Probably already is in a lot of areas.

I was talking last week with a friend in Oregon and he said that people are already talking about out allowing nil in high school and doing away with a lot of the transfer rules but that’s it’s goin to be tricky because of schools rules about enrollment that if they allow athletes to go to schools outside of districts freely then they would have to allow all students and that schools don’t have the personnel to really monitor nil as far as college goes just make them employees and like in the nfl they have to sign 3-4 year contracts that would be the only way you will stop all of the transfers and teams contacting players that are not even in the portal yet
