This game was a good one, even the goalies got into a fight and the Pens backup net minder Brent Johnson, scores the KO (and the shutout) with one punch on the Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro.

The Sabres come to the Burgh on friday to take on the Pens.

Islanders 9 Pens 3

Payback game for the Isles but this one went way over the line. It looked like the Hanson brothers from the movie slapshot were playing for the Isles as 356 penalty minutes were handed out.

The game got out of hand with the Isles easily ahead 6-0 when Islanders Martin sucker-punched Talbot in the neutral zone during play that touched off a melee that saw 3 Islanders and 3 Pens sent off with game miscoducts but that was just the beginning as in the 3rd Islander enforcer Gilles throws an elbow to the head of Tangradi who was knocked out on his feet and then jumped on top of him as he lay on the ice. This lead to to the Burgs Adams coming to the defense and both Adams and Gilles were tossed. In the fight, NY's Healey raced down the ice to fight the Pens goalie Johnson and Goddard rushed to his defense.

10 game misconducts were handed out, 5 each team.

The Pens end the game with 6 position players and 2 goalies. The Isles ended the game with 9 position players and 2 goalies.

I am sure that the NHL will be handing out a $100,000 in fines and many suspensions from this game. I would guess that this officiating crew could see some time off the ice as they had no control of this game.

Post game comments from Pens coach Bylsma, "we knew this was a payback game and we are low on players but this isn't something that will be forgotten and we have April 8th circled on the calender." Thats when these 2 teams meet again in the next to last game of the season in NY.

Pens stay in NY to take on the Rangers on Sunday.

Look for the injury depleted Pens to make some more callups from the AHL Wilkes-Barre baby Pens to fill out the lineup. They may even call up someone from the Wheeling Nailers.

LETS GO PENS!!!

Pens currently have 7 forwards on injuried reserve, including Crosby and Malkin. All the defensemen are ok. Godard serving a 10 game suspension for leaving the bench during a fight. Pens forwards are mostly AHL callups from the baby Pens @ Wilkes/Barre-Scranton.

Wednesday @ Colorado, Sunday @ Chicago.

Pens vs Blackhawks will be on NBC this Sunday. I am sure that they are not pleased Crosby will be out of the lineup from a ratings standpoint. I am not pleased has I will not get to watch the game.

I am enjoying watching the Buffalo vs Montreal on Versus right now. Habs up 2-1.

Sabres 3 Habs 2 in the shootout.

Sabres come from behind 2-0 to force the OT and then come from behind 2-0 in the shootout to win it in the bottom of the 10th 3-2 on a wrister by Jochen Hecht.

Everyone enjoyed watching this game except the Hab fans. Sorry D-5.

Gahs,

The Cols Dispatch writers always talk about 95 pts as the goal to make the playoffs... Huge game for the Jackets tonite!!! These are the kind of 4 point games that they need to win- especially at home!

Pens 3 Avs 2 OT

Pens get a powerplay goal by Kennedy with the one timer past Budaj. He beat him like a rented mule!

First win in Colorado for the Pens since 1999. Talk about a long dry spell.

Malkin is out for the season with the knee injury. Still no timetable for Crosby's return - not looking good.

Pens have to continue to win with defense as 7 blue liners are on injuried reserve right now.

On to Chicago for a Sunday game against the defending Stanley Cup champs.

Blackhawks 3 Pens 2 shootout final.

Missed the game but caught the extended highlights on NHL.com Looked like a good game. Pens have to win with defense with 7 blueliners out and a lot of callups from the AHL. Still, you can't let Kane waltz unmolested down the center of the ice for a wrister.

Lots of good saves on both sides and several near misses off the pipes for both sides.

Pens in 4th place in the East and the Hawks crowding the 8th spot in the west.

Capitals in the Burgh on Monday in a national game on Versus. Then host the Sharks on Wednesday. Need some points. Prefer the 2 point wins.

Caps 1 Pens 0

Bummer! But, playoff hockey in Febuary. Clean, hard hitting game. Look for these 2 to matchup again in the first round of the playoffs.

Pens out shot the Caps 39-24 and had 3 go off the post. UGHHH! Caps look much better on defense as they packed it in and blocked a bunch of shots. Looks like they now understand that you need a strong defense to win playoff hockey and you can't just outshoot the other team to the Cup.

Pens trade for forward James Neal of the Stars for Goligoski. He is 23 years old. Has scored 24 and 27 goals the last 2 years and has 21 this year. Stands 6'2" and weighs 208 pounds. Can play either on the Crosby or Malkin line.

Goligoski was good and will be missed but we are deeper at the defensive positions than we are on the blue line.

I think this sends a mesage to the team and fans that the Pens are in it to win it, in spite of the injuries.

Shark attack on Wednesday.

gahs4ever...I would not rate Pittsburgh @ #6 overall. I don't think we are the 6th best team in the East right now.

Sharks 3 Pens 2 OT

Sharks get the goal with seconds left in OT.

Hurricanes 4 Pens 1

Pens still struggling to score goals with their many new additions through trades and injury callups. Team really looks out of sync on both ends.

Pens are 2-6-2 in the last 10 games.

Pens 6 Leafs 5 shootout final.

Pens finally get a win as they score more goals tonight than they have the last 5 games.

Kovalev gets 2 goals including the winner in the shootout.

Pens are back at the Garden vs the Leafs on Wednesday, odd scheduling.

We need to get Crosby back on the ice. Only 18 games left and he needs to get his legs back. I would not be surprised if he doesn't comeback this season. I think the concussion is much worse than we know.
