Well, if Phil was the difference between them just missing the playoffs, I'd be concerned. Surveying the wreckage, we are more than a good kicker away. I don't begrudge him maybe signing with a team where he can experience the post season. Ton of players have left here and went on the playoff success.

Now.....it might be just another reason they continue to lose. KEEP DAWSON! He even WANTS to stay in Cleveland!
OK, let's put this IN CONTEXT. Peyton said what he said because (Vanderjerk, I believe) would get all liquored up and run his mouth like a punk arse..... I don't believe that he's bad mouthed any of the other kickers for the Colts, but who knows, I'm not a Colts fan, and my memory is fading........... but, in all fairness, let's put the rest of the facts out there, about Manning dissing his kicker.

Now, on the other hand, the Browns let Dawson go, that just confirms what everyone has believed all along, the Brown's front office is full of assclowns. WOW! He will sign with a team that is closer to home for him (Texas), and with a much better chance of winning the Super Bowl.

Them not re-signing him may be the best present the Browns have ever given Phil.

I like Phil and I hope he stays. I'll I'm sayig is the Patriots let Vinatieri go in his prime and they haven't exactly fallen apart. By the same turn, you could put Vintieri on the Browns and they wouldn't suddenly win ten games, either. Holmgren is in charge. He views kickers as disposable lighters. Any number of them will work. He doesn't see any sense in putting premium $$$ in that position. And he may be right.

I really like Dawson too...and even as a kicker he really embraced the Cleveland "mentality" -pittsburgh rivarly included! But if holmgren thinks that just any decent kicker is going to come into cleveland stadium and hammer them home like Phil did; he is out of his mind! Cleveland is THE hardest place to kick in the NFL !!! cold temps, swirling winds off the lake, bad field conditions( they've resodded the field 3-4 times just this season).....good luck phil! hope to see you back with the brownies, but i doubt it..and we browns fans will pay the price. I can see it in a couple of years, we get an Offense and a Defense and make a run in the playoffs- only to be eliminated by a missed 39 yarder in Cleveland Stadium....
