I love my Browns much like the North Side of Chicago adores the Cubs. But that doesn't excuse the almost complete ineptitude with which the Browns have been (mis)managed over the last fifty years. Recently, there have been remembrances of the fiftieth anniversary of Eisenhower's farewell address and Kennedy's inaugural speech. Seems just yesterday and yet it is a half-century ago. Roughly the same time period when Art Modell assumed operational ownership of the Browns. 50 years is a long time to endure one of the greatest tragedies in the management of a pro sports franchise. The Browns never recovered from his ham-handed ways. We Browns fans are bonded by a special suffering shared by few. Heck, even the Red Sox were competitive even though falling short of a championship. I'm always hopeful but hope is a boring mistress over time.
