Houston 34 Tampa Bay 27 (XFL)

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

A late pick by Houston (3-0) on a bad route ran a Tampa receiver or could it have been another bad decision by a Tampa quarterback? Either way the end result was another Tampa Bay (0-3) loss. P.J.Walker (Temple) had a good game number wise 24-36, 306 yards with 3 touchdowns, but he was bad on passes deep downfield. He also rushed 4 times for 34 yards and a touchdown. Cam Phillips (Virginia Tech) had 8 catches, 194 yards and 3 touchdowns. The kid is going to open some NFL teams eyes, with games like this. Kahlil Lewis (Cincinnati) had six catches for 41 yards. James Butler( Nevada/Iowa) rushed for 72 yards on just 7 carries. The dude needs to get the ball a lot more. Deatrick Nicholas (South Florida) and DeMarquis Gates (Mississippi) led the Houston defense with 8 tackles each. Gates is another player, who is going to get some NFL interest. Gates also had a pick.
For Tampa, Micah Hannemann (BYU) led the defense with 7 tackles. Taylor Cornelius (Oklahoma State) 16-31, 193 yards, 1 touchdown with 1 pick. He also rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown on carries. Quinton Flowers (South Florida) 4-6, 67 yards and he rushed 6 times, for 29 yards and a score. Jalen Tolliver (Arkansas-Monticello) had 104 yards on 8 grabs.

Notes
Carl Bradford (Arizona State)and Caushaud Lyons (Tusculum) had sacks for Houston.
Terrance Plummer (Central Florida) had a sack for Tampa.
Andrew Franks (Rensselaer Polytechnic) had field goals of 48 and 43 yards, for Tampa.
Sergio Castillo (West Texas A&M) had a 28 yard field goal, for Houston.
