After boarding the SS St Louis in fine Pirate fashion in game 1 for a tough hand to hand combat win, the Buccos load extra powder in the long nines and blast the filthy Redbird seadogs on both sides of her hull with 3 triples and homer and make a twin killing of the Cardinals as their ship is listing from their 6th straight loss.

Pirate pitching has limited the Cards offense to just 3 R in 29 innings this series.

The captain orders an extra portion of rum tonight for the Bucs as we are now 1.5 games in front of the Cards and own the best record in MLB.

The Pirates send out Locke to face Wainwright in game 4.

Buccos spot the Cards a 2-0 lead in the first but get their 25th comeback win of the year to send the Cards to their 7th straight loss.

Pirate bullpen, the shark tank, pitches 5 scoreless innings to cool off a early, hot Cardinal offense.

Bucs now have a 2.5 game lead over the Cards and go for the improbable 5 game sweep tomorrow.

On making a deadline trade, GM Huntington said, "We talk a lot about, 'we didn't want to do something stupid'. We were willing to do something stupid. We just didn't want to do something insane."

I would say that what little that was out there in the way of a bat or 2 off the bench wasn't good enough for the asking price. This was a farm system that was bare. Now it is considered one of the best so it may be best to go with what you have, which is great team chemistry on top of the best defense, in terms of defensive effienency and the best pitching staff in baseball and either make a trade or two or dip into the free agency market in the off season and just go with what you got for this season.

Now, if we fall flat on our face, people will say this or that trade should have been made and that could happen. We have managed the injury bug very well to date. Having McKendry done for the year isn't good, especially if Martin goes down then we are left with Sanchez as your only catcher and he has no MLB experience, not good.

I can't fault the idea of staying put considering what was out there which wasn't much help. I agree with "lets go with what we got" and see what happens. Being in a pennant race with these young players will be a tight rope walk at best but it will only make them better for next year. They appear to be loose and having fun and don't seem to understand that they should not be the considered the best team in MLB, based on their record, on August 1st but they are.

AJ Burnett said that personal numbers mean nothing to him anymore, its about the wins. That attitude has rubbed off on the rest of the team. Hopefully, the Pirates can get him back for 1 more season or get him to become a pitching coach. I think he will make a good one.

The Bucs scratched out a win vs the Cards ace Wainwright. 6 of his 13 wins this year were after a Cardinal loss. This was an impressive win because All-star Locke had his worst outing as a pro, 4 R 10 H 1 BB 6 K but the bullpen was again outstanding, 5 innings, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB 5 K. The offense did just enough to get a win, scored 1 run in 5 seperate innings, and that is all that matters. If you put the ball in play you make the defense do something and sometimes it is a physical error or a mental error like Holiday did on the fly to left that Walker tagged up on at first and moved to second. A veteren team life St Louis doesn't make those errors often.

The only way this could be any sweeter is if this was happening late in September instead of the end of July. A lot of baseball still left to be played this year. One game at a time is the only way you can approach it.

If the Bucs lose today it will be a downer but we will still be in first place. Lets go for the 5 game sweep and rub some seasalt into their wounds. Lord knows we have had enough rubbed in ours for the past 20 seasons.

Looks like I was wrong about the Pirates and Cardinals series. The Pirates look to be the team to beat in the central. St. Louis losing their catcher is going to hurt them and if my Reds don't get their bats going than the Pirates may walk away with thing.

Ouch. Well, you'll have games like this. Not much went right for the Pirates and everything did for the Cards so tip your cap to them. All you can do is forget it and move on. Its a loss. We still have a 1.5 game lead over the Cards and a 5.5 game lead over he Reds and still have the best record in baseball.

Buccos get ready for a home weekend series vs the Rockies who are on a 4 game losing streak. Who did they lose to? The Braves. The same team that put the Cards on their losing streak before they went into Pittsburgh.

We need to win this series. A sweep isn't necessary, just win 2 of 3.

Burnett was outstanding in the final game today as he throws a complete game giving up only 1 R 8 H 1 BB and 9 Ks.

Martin provides the run support with a 3 spot as he gets a rare Bucco homer with runners on.

Pirate fans pack PNC Park with the 3rd best 3 game series attendence record in park history vs the Rockies as the best ballyard in baseball cotinues to be home to the best team in MLB.

Buccos take Monday off as they continue the homestand on Tuesday vs the Fish as they will send All-star Jeff Locke to take the hill.

McCutchen goes 2-3 with the Bucco blast, his 5th multi hit game in a row, as the offense scores just enough to support great Pirate pitching and some excellent defense to secure the win.

Bucs are 14-7 since the All-Star break and are 26 games over .500 with the best record in MLB and a 3.5 game lead on the Cards.

Well, we played like skunky beer taste last night at Coors Field. Awful.

Terrible all around game by the Buccos. Need to get back on track tonight and get the win.

The only good thing that happened was that the Cards only picked up 1 game on us as they lost 2 of 3 vs the Cubs.

Bucs drop a game to the Cards they should of won when Marte dropped a routine fly ball in the 9th that opened the doors for the Redbirds to tie it up and send it to extra innings.

Pirates need to shake it off and get the win in game 2. We can still take the series and increase our lead over St. Louis.
