And two super bowl wins in those past ten years too...But it goes back longer than that in all reality.

I used to be a die-hard Steeler fan as many on here probably remember, but I lost a lot of interest in the league as I began to feel (like many do) that they were softening the game and being overzealous with safety precautions. I digress. I now follow both the Bengals and the Steelers like a fly on the wall and refer to myself as a quasi-fan of both organizations.
As it is, both teams sit at 7-5 and control their own destinies for a playoff berth as their other competition languishes in mediocrity. Neither of these teams impress me much at all and I believe that when one of them does reach the playoffs, they will be quickly dispatched in the wild card game. The difference? Pittsburgh fans will be furious about it. Some Bengal fans will be too, but if they do get into the playoffs, the celebration will last so long that few fans will even notice them getting manhandled in the playoff game. It is a difference of cultures. Starting at the middle of last decade and continuing right up until today, the Bengals have always been a flash in the pan; they get some young and/or highly publicized talent (mostly skill players) to sell some tickets, sneak into the playoffs, and are quickly defeated. The Steelers (at least usually, not so much lately) have traditionally been good at finding talent that everyone else overlooks and meeting needs and getting results. The difference? Over the last 10 years, the Steelers have 3 AFC Championships and the Bengals have 3 Wild Card losses.

Nice to see you post again fuzz, missed ya . I really what would have happened in the 2005 playoff game if palmer and henry didnt get taken out at the begaining of the game, Palmer hasnt been the same since. Palmer was on fire untill that injury, oh well, Thanks for the draft picks radiers.

Well of course there's no denying that since the early 70s, the Steelers have been one of the premier franchises in the NFL. I started with last decade - let's just dub it the "Marvin Lewis Era" - because that's when the Bengals began to make waves again after a decade-plus of mediocrity. The organization is content with Marvin Lewis. It is content with marketing a few household names to ticket-buyers, having ho-hum seasons in which they team is ok and might occasionally slither into the playoffs, but are never (except maybe in 05, as ace brought up) really contenders for anything and really just amount to an extra seed to make the playoffs complete.

The injuries have put the Steelers in a spot to win only. This team is not like in years past. Just as Mendenhal being sent home on Tuesday. The WR's are not making the plays to win. Injuries to the DB's are not allowing Troy to roam since he is back.

The only thing that is in Steelers favor is no team is running away. The Ravens I think will get better since getting rid of Cam Cammeron. But their defense with all the injuries is tough to overcome. Also the Bengals need to show they are a playoff team. Sure going to be some fun games to watch in the next 2 weeks.

Well many of the Steeler fans can continue doing what they have done all year. Not talking much about what the team has done this year and more about the past. So talk about your past Super Bowl wins but this year you are not in the playoffs. This team makeup is not like the teams in the past. As the Steelers didn't play well enough to earn their way into the playoffs.

This started with the change of OC. Then preseason Wallace holds out and when back didn't have a good season. The other WR not stepping up in preseason when Wallace was out. The Mendenhal attitudes. The oline taking turns getting hurt as well as the db's.

Will there be any players retiring?

JMO At 75 the D man must go !!! The O-LINE needs help. D-Line big time , Because of age!!! D-Backs , and maybe a backup QB.Plus THE OC has got to work something out with BIG BEN !!! Or the Head COACH must go. Not Steeler Football.

As bad as it ever gets it will NEVER be as bad as the brownies...Luck is sometimes a variable in pro sports and this year the Steelers didn't have much unlike some others in the division.

This year they have been exposed in some areas where luck has overshadowed it. BB mentioned a lot of areas. Not sure the DC could have done better if it was someone else. Some of the defensive players need to be traded while they still have value and replaced with younger less likely to be injured players. Which New England has done for years. The OLINE is injury after injury. Pouncey is great but gets hurt all the time. Which is why they need atleast 8 linemen on the team to finish some games.

The Wallace holdout effected this team all year, Then now Miller is hurt. If Miller's injury keeps him from being the player he was before. The Steelers do not have another WR they can count on to make the catch when needed. Missing a Hines Ward player. Which also may have effected the locker room more. With Mendenhal being sent home during the season. Team Chemistry was just not there. Getting rid of OC then Haley being the jerk he is. Now Ben is trying to say he was the reason because his play. The Steelers didn't make the playoffs.

Changes need to be made. Who retires or gets traded or cut. They do need a new attitude to keep problems like Mendenhal from coming up again.
