Bucco offense slams 2 HRs (thats 4 HRs in 2 games) as the Pirates even the 3 game series at 1 game each.

Buccos now have a 3 game lead over the Redbirds.

Burnett takes the mound vs Lynn in a Businessman's Special Thursday afternoon.

Bucs are 10-2 at home since the All-Star break. Home port is always the best port.

Last night's game was another sellout at PNC Park. The entire weekend series is already soldout.

Pirates hold a 3 game lead over the Cards and a 3.5 lead over the Reds in the NL Central.

Game 2 vs the D-backs has the Buccos sending rookie ace Locke to face Cahill.

Bucs drop 2 of 3 vs the D-backs including a 4-2 loss in 16 innings in game 3.

Pirates have played 3 extra inning games the past week and the extra innings add up to a total of 2 extra games. Ouch.

We head out west for 3 vs the Padres and 4 vs the Giants.

Liriano vs Cashner in game 1 @ SD.

Need some offense to support outstanding pitching to get the win.

Liriano was outstanding! 7 IP 0 R 4 H 2 BB 13 Ks.

The shark tank was nearly as impressive, 2 IP 1 R 2 H 0 BB 4 Ks.

Alvarez supplied all the offense with 2 RBIs and his NL leading 31 HR. Plus, the Buccos only had 4 Ks. When you put the ball in play, you put pressure on the defense and sometimes good things happen that shouldn't like Alvarez's single that turned into a 4 base error.

Bucco bats still were 0-2 WISP. Offense needs to start stepping up and helping out the pitching staff if we are going to holdoff the Cards and Reds.

Burnett was outstanding! 7 IP 1 R 4 H 1 BB 7 Ks. The shark tank slams the door in relief.

Bucco bats pound out 3 triples amd the defense was top notch.

Pirate lead in the NL Central was padded to 2 and 2.5 games respectively as both the Cards and Reds lost.

Bucs go for the sweep as Cole vs Kennedy in game 3.

Bucco bats bouce back after the final, dismal game showing vs SD to pound out 13 H and plate 10 R against the G-men.

Pirate rookie pitcher Locke continues to struggle since the All-star game, 4 IP 3 R 5 H 4 BB 3 Ks. The shark tank does a good job, especially Gomez 3 IP 0 R 0 H 1 BB 1 K to seal the deal and get the win.

Bucs stay 1 and 2.5 games up on the Cards and Reds.

Game 2 of 4 has the Bucs sending out Morton vs Bumgarner.

Morton was spot on for the Pirates. 7 2/3 IP 1 R 7 H 1 BB 3 Ks on just 83 pitches.

The shark tank, Watson and Melancon seal the deal with 1 1/3 IP 0 R 1 H 0 BB 1 K on just 18 pitches.

Light hitting SS Barmes comes up huge in the 7th with the 3 run Bucco blast for the game winner.

McCutchen continues his torrid hitting as he gets his 14th multi-hit game of August.

Bucs pickup their 34th road win of the season which matches last years total and their 76th win of the season which they didn't get until Sept 25 last season.

Pittsburgh maintains its lead in the NL Central by 1 over the Cards and increase it to 3.5 over the Reds.

Game 3 has the Pirates sending out their ace Liriano vs Lincecum.

Giants 4 Bucs 0 game 4

Giants get to Liriano early and hold off the Pirates to win game 3.

Bucco bats disappear, as usual when Burnett pitches, as they only muster 3 hits in game 4.

Still, we win the series, 2-1, vs the Padres and split the 4 games vs the Giants to go 4-3 on the western road swing and are tied with the Cards for the NL Central lead.

Bucs are off tonight and start a 3 game set Tuesday vs the Brewers and then a HUGE 3 game weekend series vs the Cards. This is the next to last homestand of the year.

Its getting to be crunch time. Bucs need 6 wins to break their 20 year record of losing seasons. They won't get 6 on the homestand but if they can win both series and go 4-2 it would be a big plus.

Pirate pitching should be well rested for the homestand and hopefully the Bucco offense will come to life down the home stretch.

I agree. Buccos should have gotten the comeback win last night but came up short.

An excellent pitching staff needs some run support. Hopefully, Byrd will help. He is having a very good year. Current batting average is above his career average and has 21 HRs this year. Buck's average isn't as good as you would like but he does has some pop in his bat and can produce with RISP. Plus, he gives us an experienced backstop if Martin needs a rest or a good bat off the bench.

Pirates send out Morton to take the mound vs ex-pirate Gorzelanny in game 2.

We need to win this series and let the Redbirds know that they just can't expect to walk on the field and win the NL Central without a fight.

Marlon Byrd makes his debut in a Pirate uniform and wins over the fans with a hard liner double play, an epic strikeout and a 3 run blast. The RF corner is now his to occupy in the 'Burgh.

McCutchen continues his torrid August hitting and adding Byrd to the lineup should take some pressure off of Andrew.

Bucco bats pound out their 7 R with 13 H as 4 Pirate players had multi-hit games.

Morton gets the win as he goes 6 2/3 innings 1 R 5 H 3 BB and 2 Ks.

Bucs are a healthy 10-5 this season vs the Brewers.

With the Reds white washing the Cards last night, the Bucs are 1/2 game back of the NL Central Redbirds who are off tonight. A big Bucco win tonight will have both teams tied going into their huge weekend series.

Bucs starter Cole did a good enough job to get the win but a very poor offensive performance from Bucco bats was the difference in this one.

Newly acquired Pirate catcher John Buck provided half of the 6 hit offense as he went 3 for 3 on just 4 pitches.

Huge series starts tonight in the Pittsburgh as the Redbirds come to town with a 1 game lead over the Buccos.

Pirates need to take 2 of 3 as they will be back in St. Louis next weekend for 3 to close out the season series between these 2 clubs.

Liriano takes to mound for the Bucs as the Cards counter with Miller.

Melancon pitches the 9th to get the save.

Garrett Jones is 1 hit short of the cycle with 4 RBIs.

All this adds up to the Buccos moving back into a first place tie with the Cards in the NL Central.

These type of games you want to enjoy for a long time.

I guess the asking price last month was too much or the deal just couldn't be made.

Either way, I think the moves will be a plus.

Burnett was outstanding in shutting down the Cards, 7IP 1R 4H 1BB 6 Ks and he finally got some run support to raise his record to 7-9 with a very good ERA of 3.09. The shark tank smelled blood on the water and shut em out for the last 2 innings.

Bucco bats come alive with 13 hits, 4 doubles, 1 triple and a 3 run blast by Martin, his 2nd in as many games.

Buccos have out homered the Cards in their 15 games to date by 18-3.

Game 3 has the Bucs giving Johnson the spot start vs Kelly.

I agree. Having Johnson pitch was like management saying this was a throw away game just to rest some arms etc for the long road trip 3 vs Milwaukee, 3 vs St Louis and 4 vs Texas.

Farnsworth was released by the Rays last month and we signed him to a minor league contract around Aug 16.

After 20 straight losing seasons, the streak is over as the Bucs get their 81st win of the season.

Cole gives a quality start 6 IP 2 R 5 H 1 BB 5 Ks in the no decision.

The shark tank shuts the door as Melancon gets his 11th save in 13 chances.

McCutchen gets his 100th career home run.

Late season pickups Byrd goes 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Morneau goes 3-3.

An all around team effort as the Bucs improve to 24-20 in 1 run games.
